This is legitimately one of my favorite shows in the whole mtg scene recently. Hadn’t heard of canlander until this show and there’s something so cool about how proficient serge and wheeler are and how vocal they are about their thought processes.

if you'd like more content like this i'd suggest watching the whole League playlist they did a couple of years ago: kzfaq.info/sun/PLzRiDUMuwrlch_6k3y7eI5XBJ9dUSt3vs lots of quality matches and decks played, especially by Ben and Jer, i rewatch it often for creativity insiration :)

Broadly speaking I'm a proponent of the risky keep. If you have the nut draw off a single land rip, sometimes even two, it can be correct to go for it especially in singleton formats or when you think you're the dog in a matchup. In these games I wanna say Serge was pretty off the mark, keeping around 4 drops and not respecting that Wheeler had hand attack, but the initial thought process that leads to keeping hands like that isn't necessarily wrong.

I would love to have a discussion of pros/cons for cutting white from Wheeler's deck. It's basically only there for 3feri and some removal, but I think the available removal in the other colors is good enough to not need to be in 4c for this deck.

In G1, Serge could have un-equipped lion sash after attacking to have a chump blocker since its untapped. Ultimately didn't matter, but it would have mitigated a 3-drop off of vial at endstep.

I've been wanting to see the Esper Initiative deck in action for a while now. I tried to build basically this deck before Initiative creatures got printed and oh boy was it bad I love me some Canlander, and I appreciate all the wonderful histories behind deck names, but it's always bothered me that SeekerWalk isn't called TimeSeeker. It feels like a (slightly) better descriptor and rolls off the tongue a lot better. But that could just be me.

It is referring to a dungeon master. Sometimes you ask the dm something like "is it possible for me to reach the treasure if I jump over the ravine" and they respond "yes" so you'd say "dm I do that" just to shorthand it. Idk if threw really any reference online that's easy to find
