Experiencing that common problem of the sound cutting out and crackling on one or both sides? Do you frequently have to wiggle the connectors to sort the problem? This clip will show you how to permanently fix the problem using a few simple tools and a bit of common sense

:) this encouraged me to fix it once and for all and I believe I have found the root cause of the issue: the two springs are not symmetrical, there both coiled the same and placed side by side. This means that when you plug the fork connector, the rightmost contact is done by the point pushing two loops of coil to the right copper barrel, whereas the left point pushes on only one loop on its barrel - making it quite a looser connexion. I have let go of the small white plastic retainer in order to turn the left spring 180 degrees, thus having its prehensible end in the middle, down. Close to its neighboor but that is ok as long as you fit in the fork connector before fitting the front assembly together, making sure it fits properly and it will hold everything. (I had to pry the left coil with a sewing needle to make room for the left point upon insertion, because the second loop is a bit in the way and it jumps if you hit it. But after insertion between the second and third coil it fits perfectly and the contact is firm.) no more issues since the. :) hope this helps

Just did this successfully, cheers for the video! to anyone attempting it, when adjusting the springs I wasn´t able to find a small enough screwdriver to attempt it with confidence....i found a sim card key to be about the right size to get into that small hole , best of luck!

fascinating video. I've had these headphones forever and the sound is great. I've had this same problem for years already. Everyone I know who uses these, have had the same problem. That's at least 50 people. I never thought of the problem being uneven springs! I specifically bought them because you could replace the cable, unlike Sony's that use a much thinner cable. Thanks so much for this video. They're working for the moment.

Thanks for the video, gives me a bit more confidence in trying this fix. Have a set of HD25+ I bought in 2019 where the connector had been redesigned from the earlier models, so was hoping this wouldn't be an issue but here we are. As an earlier commenter said it's the Achilles heel of these otherwise fantastic headphones. Possibly due to the supposedly "replaceable" parts that never seem to be readily available enough (or too expensive) that you just end up buying a new set.

Worked a treat nice one. The really thin cables seem to be thicker now so could be a bit more heavy handed though they don't have a lot of slack.

I've killed an old pair doing this and had to try it on the new pair today. Fortunately, the new models have insulating plastic around the thin wires on the driver, which means you're less likely to break the wire and kill your headphones. This solution didn't work for me this time, but the spring trick does work. I feel there may be a new problem with mine, as they tend to fade out rather than cut out in the R ear. As if the drive needs more power? A temp fix is also unplugging and replugging for me.. which was odd. I ended up having the old driver I didn't kill from my previous pair so just threw that on there and I'm back in action.. Great headphones and the modular nature is great for longevity. HD25 history for me : First pair: 15 years of heavy use (clubs, bags, travel) Second pair 2-year use (studio, bags) I think I'd buy another pair if my current ones broke because it's nice using the old ones as spare parts.

thanks for the comments. i reckon they don't make them like they used to, which is a shame.. but isn't that the case for pretty much everything these days? my coffee machine included! :D

Ok guys so I found a solution. It seems the right channel is always the one at fault. I have two sets and just picked up a third set because I love the headphones and the third set was a steal at $25 because of the right channel as well. So I took all three apart and noticed that the positive side on all three of the right side cups had the positive wire just laying on top of the thin aluminium wire that connects to the driver. I am assuming because people keep pulling the wire out and try to reset the clapping that eventually it breaks the connection that was flimsy at the very beginning. I retouched it with some solder and now I have three pairs of cans that work phenomenal! It didn’t need much solder just enough to retouch it. I have put in all headphones and manually wiggled the cable to see if they would disconnect and they didn’t. Seems like the fix to this problem.

I tried this fix, it seemed to work and then a few weeks later the same problem arose again. Next time I dismantled the earpieces I ripped the tiny wires... headset was only 3 years old with non-professional use. So 👎👎 for Sennheiser and 140€ down the drain.
