Really useful video but painfully long and drawn out for something than can be summarised as below: Velour stock - sounds better Leather stock - better isolation Velour yaxi - dampens the sound/volume/bass but gives more treble Alcantara - gives better sub bass at cost of high end and mids Zomo velour - rolled off bass, quieter, bad isolation Yaxi type b - sounds almost identical perhaps with more bass extension to standard leather sennheiser but with significantly more comfort, less isolation, slightly warmer sound, essentially same as stock but more comfortable Yaxi red - sound almost identical to sennheiser leather, firmer feal, greater comfort, essentially same as stock but more comfortable Protein leather - more sub but similar sound to sennheiser leather, designed for greater durability, softer than sennheiser but not as good as yaxi alcantara which is most comfortable, BEST SOUND Yaxi don’t come with dust covers

Very informative. I recommend adding the time stamps on the video with the name of the pad you are testing at that point of the video. The name of the pad is mentioned right at the start of the testing and barely mentioned again, so it’s hard to navigate if you’re looking for a line particular pad review. Thanks a lot for testing them all!

My 64 ohm HD25 get pretty loud off my phone. They are as efficient as my in ear headphones, although less bass. I find these headphones are relatively light on the bass compared to Soundmagic E11, but do produce the beats okay. I was quite impressed with my friend's beats on ear - clear sound and more bass and very efficient, although they are not value for money headphones. They seemed to get very loud off of just a phone - though I'm not sure what make the phone was. I prefer the p-leather pads to the velour. I found the velour pads tended to press on my ears in one place and also produced a relatively tinny sound so went back to the normal. The HD25-1 are already quite hot in the treble and upper mids. You could probably get them sounding pretty decent with a few minor EQ adjustments.

In my opinion the best earpads you can buy for the HD25 are the Dekoni Jerzee pads. Similar to velour, but not quite as open sounding, and even more comfortable. Especially if you're like me and find velour pads to feel scratchy and rough after a while.

I’m trying to decide between Comfort and Type B. Leaning a bit more towards comfort. I just need a little more direct sound comparison between comfort pads and type b. A bit confused after watching this video. Type B, they say it’s less bossy than the standard pads. But then they say it’s warmer. How is that possible??? Comfort: Stronger bass, and recessed miss and highs. Also warmer than the standard pads.

I had the white pads in May 2021. They were comfortable and sounded great. Unfortunately, they seem to have durability issues. Coming up just short of a year, they had started to split along the seam around the inside of the earpiece and the protein material started separating from the cloth backing. The headbands started following suit, and they were done a month or so after that. I'm going to submit another order, but I'll go for the Type B or Comfort pads this time. I guess it's moot at this point, as the white pads are no longer available.

They showed signs of splits appearing, then quicker than I could believe they totally FELL APART! I can't find my purchase information to confirm when got them, but I really can't believe what has happened... The HD25 are symettrical in the way they couple to the ear so it would not change the sound. The only difference would be in the stereo Mix. I've just purchased the protein leather pads. They definitely are on another league comfort wise when comparing with the original pleathers. Softer and not as sweaty. I gave them 5 days to get used to the sound. Yesterday I went back to the originals pleathers to compare. They were back on sennheiser headphones blue box in less than 30 seconds. Bass is fuller and the sound seemed a little bit bigger and less shrill on the highs, probably because of the larger distance between the driver and the ear. They just sound better. The isolation improved as well. I never tried the aluminum pads, but people description seemed to match with my experience with the whites. I will give them a 9 out of 10 cause I'm not in love with tle colour. I've ordered the mass loading and damping kit as well, but I don't know if I want more bass. Would you say that this kit complements the white pads in a good way? Cheers.
@CustomCans
@CustomCans 3 жыл бұрын
If you fit the kit properly you get more sub bass where the HD25 normally drop off a bit but it is reversible so you can give it a go and see if you like it and if not you can remove the weights from the driver and the bass will go back to normal. Sound is always a personal taste thing
@gilbertopenatoca1525
@gilbertopenatoca1525 3 жыл бұрын
@@CustomCans I will give it a try and let you know. What shoud I expect removing the weights but leaving the damping inside the cups with no cotton disc? (I know that is a matter of trying myself, but you've got experience with this, and I would like to reduce the chances of breaking something repeating the disassemble process). Good job with the pads again. Cheers.

I was thinking of buying the Custom Cans Whites too. Do they have this kind of a firm rim at the base of the earpad inside? I bought a pair of chineese pads a couple of years back, and they sound amazing. They have lots of bass while being really clear and transparent. I think it's partly due to the fact that they have this plasticky base which slightly covers the pads inside the earcups. Too bad they started falling apart and they don't sell them anymore, so now I'm desperately trying to find a replacement.
@gilbertopenatoca1525
@gilbertopenatoca1525 2 жыл бұрын
@@BeatByBit The whities basically have same treble and mids like the original, but have a lovely defined subbass kick that the originals lack. The hard plastic ring on the back is there as well, (I think that this matter is commented at the end of the custom cans pad rolling video), but this things are made to last. They are fresh and comfortable as well. The only thing I would change from this design would be the rubber skirt color... Black would be killer 😉

Hi Jason, just found your channel while looking for more info on my 600ohm HD25s. Do you have any advice on optimising the sound quality for these 600ohm versions? Would you say a dedicated headphone amp is mandatory? If so, what sort of specs/brands would you look at?
@spaceman4181
@spaceman4181 4 жыл бұрын
The pads would have the same effect on the 600ohm ones, increasing or decreasing bass/trebble vs Stock. I would say that a decent headphone amp would be worth using with the 600ohm ones as they need a bit more power to driver them properly. I can not give any advice on makes / models really but something that is designed to run high impedance headphones

Hi CC, good video sorry to go off topic slightly. I've had the HD25 with velour pads since 2008 and used everyday since. They are obviously great but I also have had the Amperiors sitting around for 5 years not being used due to a few issues, one of the cups slides too easily off the band and is highly annoying. Plus the clamping force is tighter and uncomfortable than the hd25. But my question is simple, is it possible to swap the aluminium cups from the Amperiors and install them on my old hd25 for perhaps a better sound like the special edition hd25 Aluminium intended to provide? Sadly those are so hard to find right now. If I can't find a use for the Amperiors I may just sell them. I'm definitely going to change the pads when I eventually make up my mind as to which to go for. The official velour pads are the ones I've always used and preferred over the official leather and Zomo pads for comfort and actual sound. Which would you recommend for home use mostly with electronic music?
@CustomCans
@CustomCans 5 жыл бұрын
Yes the amperior cups fit the older MKII HD25 drivers ( they were the same part just anodised a different colour ) If you like the sound of the original velour ones then stick with those. Also.. on a side note we purchased all the remaining stock of anniversary edition aluminium earcups and hinges and will be making a limited run of aluminium HD25s but they will probably be quite expensive as the parts were not cheap. As you already have the bits it would be cheaper for you to make your own ;) Amperior aluminium bits + MK2 drivers = HD25 Aluminium. If you have the newer HD25 ( 2016 onwards ) the drivers don't clip in nicely to the aluminium housings, they do fit but are a little loose and will need a bit of tepe or something to get a good seal
