In this video, I test out the Sequre SI012 Portable Soldering Iron. This iron can use both T12 or TS-style soldering tips. It is very budget-friendly and well built. The soldering iron supports PD3.0, QC2.0, and DC12V-25V. A perfect hobby soldering iron on a budget.

Hope you like the review. I forgot to mention that you can plug this into your computer to update/put custom firmware on it and change the boot logo. kind of like the Pine soldering irons

I have been soldering since I was a kid about 8 years old. My dad had a soldering gun that I used plus the irons I would buy from Radio Shack. I completely agree that while those are usable that they are not fun to use. The biggest problem is the tips burning up & not replacing them. I used to scrub my tips with those Chore Boys but found that if I don't use those & do not over heat my tip they last forever. It is much better to clean your tip with solder. keep a little on it when you are finished, wipe it off with a dry paper towel, & shock it with a damp towel or spung if you have to. I have never came across bad solder or flux tho. Not all solder is the same alloy. I do not like lead free but can get it to act as expected. I have used plumbers solder to work on surface mount components. It isn't often but I have used hard rosin to solder also. So the biggest factors are a decent solder iron which can be had for $25 these days, temperature control, & clean. I am sure way back that alloy was questionable but I don't think that is still an issue or I have been very lucky for almost 40 years.

The super cheap solder that come in Chinese kits. Like the learn to solder Christmas tree kits. That stuff can be actually grainy from impurities not just the natural bit from being lead free but actually grainy. The reason I say good flux is not that cheap flux doesn't flow or work but later down the line you have issues with corrosion with some of the really cheap stuff.

@@FixedUntilBroken I agree with some of it being corrosive. Even the no clean solder flux should be cleaned off in my opinion. It really depends on what I'm soldering. There is times I have left it and never gave it a second thought but these tiny surface mount stuff seems to need cleaned more in my opinion. Like I said I may have just been lucky all these years but I have been ordering from China for about 15 years & love the stuff.
