Setting Up Electric Netting - Getting the goats on Pasture

Today, I am going to setup some electric poultry netting from premier one supplies. But instead of using it with chickens, I am going to be using with our dairy goats. First thing I need to do is train the goats to the electric netting. So I will set it up inside the barnyard so they can learn not to touch it. Then I will set in up in the pasture and finally get the goats grazing fresh grass.

I was just about to switch off and go to bed, but I have to watch your new video first! I often watch stuff I have no clue about or never been interested in, like mechanical stuff. But if it is presented well, it will be interesting. The way you present it and your explanations are so great, it is such a pleasure to watch. You are to soft with Scout, but he is adorable.

A little tip I used on our goats, is get a tin can and put some small gravel in it. Just shake it lightly,, they think it is grain and will follow you everywhere. Good Luck.

Do you have enough fence to put the goats on the pond dam? 4 leg drive weed eaters are great for keeping the saplings down on a dam. If you are looking for another idea for how to use some of that smoked pork, BBQ pizza. pizza crust ether store bought or home made, BBQ sauce you like, pork/chicken/beef bbq, onion and some mozzarella cheese. just search for the type of meat and crust you are using to get prep amounts and cook times

I didn't realize I don't need to clip them back onto itself for the shocker to work. I've now got the ability to pull my coop anywhere on my property where it won't roll down the hill. Very cool as always. I'm thinking of using some of that netting around our planned garden area to keep critters out. I know it's almost impossible to keep the deer out, but my main concern would be the raccoons, rabbits, possums, etc. more than the deer. This pandemic has set us back just a bit with the progress on our homestead. The time that we have out there really hasn't changed since both my wife and I have still been working full-time, but the problem that we have run into is getting supplies/materials for what we are doing with many places closed. That's okay with me though, I would rather people be safe. We WILL get through this. It's just going to take time. In the meantime I will just press on with what I can do. I hope that you and your entire family stay safe and make it through this with minimal impact.

as the goats have been in effect a "dry lot" situation over the winter which means limited to no worms as they are not eating off the ground - now they are going to pasture that is going to change what have you got in place for doing lemantra scores and worming while on grass - also they need hay with the grass to start or the richness of the grass in the spring will upset their tummies and cause diarrhea or you only put them out for a couple hours a day for the first few days then their time out in the paddock increases as their tummies get used to the grass over about a 10 day period

Baling your owen hay is a little harder then you would think an the equipment upkeep will coast you a pretty penny and breakdowns will also set you back. And the chances of your hey catching fire! From contanus combusting from moister is a big risk. Stoney ridge farmer almost lost his hey bailer to a bad bearing getting hot and catching fire and almost set his field on fire. I remember when I was a kid watching our next door neighbor barn burn down from the high moister hay combusting. Just something to think about
