Today we are installing electric fence to expand the pig area. We are planning to more than double the size of the pig pen. We are using 3 strands of electric wire. We had already trained the pigs to electric fence inside the of their existing pig pen. So this should keep the pigs inside.

After they clean it out a bit you can chop down some of those small trees you don't want and they will eat them too. Throw an old basket ball in there and they will play with it too, just make sure it's doesn't go flat or they will rip it up. Looks great!

Why don't you have a waterproof box for your electronic controller? Just about everyone else I watch has some cover over the stuff to ensure it stays nice and dry.

You have train them on hot wire inside a real fence first. Once they learn to stay away from it. You can put them out in an area with only electric fence.

Very nice. I would love to get some goats on our property once we are there full time (only have a small 18 ft. camping trailer there now). Animals can certainly clean up and clear some areas. I don't have a whole lot of experience with electric fencing. Do you plug it in or is it somehow solar?
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 5 жыл бұрын
This fence charger can be plugged in or ran off a 12 volt battery.
@stevemartinez6757
@stevemartinez6757 5 жыл бұрын
@@CountryViewAcres I would probably run it off of a 12V battery and look into some kind of solar setup for it.
@cathiwim
@cathiwim 4 жыл бұрын
Steve Martinez our fence separating our equines from the garden is solar, but we have used 12 volt batteries and swap them out for recharging.
@stevemartinez6757
@stevemartinez6757 4 жыл бұрын
@@cathiwim I used to work for a solar company and one of the things that I developed for them was a system to charge the batteries in place using solar, and if the solar system couldn't keep up it would trigger a generator. The whole key is in the batteries (type and size) and my design could be modified to use "plug in" power rather than a generator. I'm not exactly a "green" type of person, but I'm all about saving money. If solar can be incorporated with "regular power" to me that would be the way to go. I just might come up with something for the average homesteader to use if I can keep the cost down. Now I'm thinking.......

I think you did those corner insulators wrong. We always tied them to the corner post through the center holes in the insulators & ran the fence wire on the ouside curve. Basically the opposite way you did the wires.
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 5 жыл бұрын
The reason I did it that way, is so the electric wire is captive and impossible for it to touch the wire attaching the insulator to the metal post. If I did it the other way, if the wire became loose it could fall off the outside of the donut shape and onto the wire holding the doughnut, thus grounding it out. I did use it opposite than the way it is shown.
@garywaxler7866
@garywaxler7866 5 жыл бұрын
I totally understand that. We have "tied it together" on the inside of fenced in area before to prevent something like that.

This was not informative for the newbie who needs to know what you were doing and how you were doing it. It would be more helpful if you explained what the black items were on the T-posts, how you tied the wire all together, how do you get into the pen without electrocuting yourself, how do you connect to the energizer, how deep is the grounding rod, etc. I have looked at numerous videos on KZfaq that promise to tell you how to put up pig fencing but none, so far, have actually walked a person through each of the steps....Very disappointed.
