It's time for an episode of sewing machine archaeology!
This cute little industrial overlocker from the 1940s is just waiting for some love.
A good customer of mine has recently purchased this industrial Singer overedger head and wants me to see if I can get it stitching. The original table and motor is long gone unfortunately but I think we can at least test it by hand to see if it forms stitches.
In part 1 here, I assess the machine head and give it a good look over, lubricate and check the blades.
Subjects covered are listed in the index listing below.
Keep an eye out for Part 2.

Loving these videos about industrial machines. Proper sewing machine nerd stuff! It's not that easy to come across industrial machines in the wild, so these videos are great.

Oh no ... I watched the entire marvelous video and now this: a cliff hanger! That's not fair!😢 please hurry up sharpening those blades! And once more, thanks for your seemingly bottomless expertise, patience and ... showmanship!

Just trying to join the dots: There's a little standpipe in the floor plate of the big lower reservoir. If the lower reservoir is filled to more than that height, the excess should run out. You mentioned an overflow hose earlier in the video.

I've always wanted to buy this machine to see if I can bodge it onto my treadle table lol Nice video on a classic machine, thank you!

Oh, yes!! I recently rehabilitated a Babylock EA-605 (Thank you for the videos!! They were a huge help). It treadles like a dream :) I'm now kinda smitten with these vintage overlockers.

Woops! I accidentally deleted my comment... The wick for the upper reservoir has spare part number 132784 and is named "Frame Top Cover Oil Wick for 132781 and 132847". It's depicted on Plate 20821 in the spare parts list. If using a generic wick, it should be twice the length of the reservoir lid and wide enough to fit fairly snugly in the tube so it stays in place. Looking forward to part 2!

Do you mean the upper reservoir that's being filled at 34:10? I was wondering about the design of that. Without a wick, it looks like the oil below the level of the tube opening would never go anywhere.

@@InStitches haha I know. What I’m saying is, different to you, what drives me crazy are the screws, not people complaining about them. 😹
