Today, we give you an update on Tony's progress on the Shady Pines Railroad's logging branch and we get a tour of the indoor yard. It's all built on a shoestring budget.

You guys are some of the few who can legitimately sing the old song "I've been working on the railroad all the live long day." :)

I 'm fan of logging RR 's, Pickering and Westside were in my backyard here in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of CA. Thanks Aaron, for this update of your friends ongoing construction.

Impressive work. A real logging mountain line, using big timber as subroadbed that will last a long time. Now we need a leaf blower extra run ! Congrats !

what great progress on the shady pines RR, the switch back is neat. just like the logging railroad of old. that barn is such a great building for everything, it is a plus to have inside storage and work area.

Nice ! You'll have to do a video on how the air brakes work sometime. Thanks for sharing.

How about some more photos and information of the depot along the line in the background?

That's not a bad idea.

Not quite the shady rest at petty coat junction but close enough for this day and age bro. Safe travels

It's more like Shady Pines Retirement Home. Think Golden Girls.

That is one TV show I never watched. Petty coat junction was new to us in NZ at the time because TV was a new thing and black and white with only one channel. Mid 1960 before color TV here.

Well guys just waiting for the first runaway or have y’all already had a runaway railroad 😁👍
@MillBrookRailroad Жыл бұрын
The Shady Pines has had many runaways. That's why all rolling stock is being equipped with air brakes. Runaways on the SPRR are actually a really big deal because they can cause real damage and real injury. Thankfully, nothing serious up to this point but that's why he's installing air brakes.

I can see by the controller that the Climax is running a 4QD controller 👍🏼

Ok! I was under the impression that a 3% grade is about the max grade for "tradional" trains. What grade is he running?
@MillBrookRailroad Жыл бұрын
3% is far from the maximum grade for adhesion railways. They just become less practical once you pass 4%. The Mill Brook has a 3.5% ruling grade, Stoddard Hill Farm Railway is closer to 4% on the corkscrew and Shady Pines Railroad is closer to 7%. Meanwhile, the Brick Mountain Railroad in Connecticut has a 9% ruling grade on the mainline with a branch line at 12%. There are a lot of problems with steep grades and sharp curves tend to compound those problems but if you're only pulling or pushing one or two cars and you don't go very fast then it can work.
