I rode on that train last summer, absolutely incredible how fast all the scenery was going by outside the window.

I rode Shanghai Maglev three days ago on my trip to China. Seems 431km/h is only during peak hours, otherwise it's close to 300km/h to conserve energy. In fact we waited until 1pm to experience hi speed of 431. It was amazing...

The reason there so fast is because there's no friction with the track, if they can create tunnels with little or no air (a vacuum) there will be no friction what so ever, allowing very high speeds !!! and could glide home without using any more energy !!! this is clever stuff!!!

WHY do folks think music is better than the actual sound of this amazing train?

Maglev Trains are much more Enviroment friendly than conventional trains or superhighways because when rails are on the surface of the land or when we have superhighways the land is cut, divided, so animals cannot cross from one side to the other and thousands of animals and persons die every year.

No you cant feel the g force because it is so gentle; look at the 0-60 time.Done it several times and got to 431 kph. At night it is limited to 300 kph. You only get 2 or 3 mins at top speed. Love it.

When it gets above 350 it bumps a little side to side and the wind noise becomes very loud. Peak speed is only one minute and it travels 7 kms in that minute.

Cool? Okay... Yes Yes Yes. Chinese trains are fast as a bullet. They are glittery. Beautiful. Modern. Hygienic as a bloody military OR. But, I prefer the US trains. Yup. They are creepy fun. On a Chinese train you get from point A to point B in a sneeze. Instead on a US train, they are so slow that you can see how your clothes go out of style. On a US train, you can fall in love, have children and watch them grow up. On a US train you can read Tolstoy's "War and Peace" twice. On the US train you have time to learn another language. U see? US trains are exciting. They are Noisy. Stinky. Rusty. Smoky. Full of Graffiti. With vomits of all nationalities. From Mexican enchiladas to Japanese sushi. The US train is Thrilling like a horror movie. On the other hand, on a Chinese train, you get on, you sit down and Nnnnñit! You have already reached your destination. What kind of shit is that? Did you pay a ticket and for what? Where are the murders, the harassing policemen, the swindlers, the drug addicts, the international spies, the sadists, the psychopaths, the sexually depraved, the Mormons, the Locos, the exhibitionists...? No. No. No. I rather to risk my life on a US train, but have something to tell my grandchildren.

I just took it a few days ago. It was 50RMB (around US$7) 1-way and 80RMB (US$11) round trip. Cool as hell ride but kind of a waste. If you really were taking it into Shanghai as a traveler, you'd cover the trip in about 8 mins and be left off in Longyang, which is in the middle of nowhere in Pudong. From there, you'd have to take another subway train or a taxi across the river to Shanghai, both of which are a good 30-40 mins of addl travel. There's no practical reason for taking it.

This is just the start in maglev tech. The speeds its capable to get to with more modifications is scary. BY useing efficent tunnels, these trains can go above 1000kmh. trvaelling at speeds of 600mph is possible. most of all this tech is efficent and safe.

@thequake180 It has been proven not economic, this is why China switch to HSR train instead of maglev - cheaper and almost as fast, and runs on existing infrastructure.

@yakidk89 Yeah true that man all the fucking government cares about it building more roads, were like the USA in the 1950s and 60s. There was talk about building one of these from Melbourne to Sydney but it proved to be too expensive as it would have been purely a state government venture. I think NSW wasn't too keen on it as they would have had to pay for more track! at the time i think it cost 3million dollars per 1Km of track over 960Km YOU DO THE MATH!!

We'd never get this kind of thing in Australia. There'd alway be a bunch of whinging people protesting that they don't want it built in their neighbourhood near their homes. Also, the government would never finance it and give stupid reasons why.
