I discovered this channel a couple days ago and got so confused as to why you don’t have a bigger following. As a younger writer myself you have helped me so much not only with the quality of my work and honest, helpful criticism but with the passion you portray for the art of writing and the story. I have felt stuck with a project for weeks now and finding this channel was like a little miracle for me - it feels as if this is targeted right at me. Thank you, you’re amazing and never stop writing !! ❤❤

I always eat up every little nugget of your writing you share. I've said it once and I'll say it again - your writing style is beautiful! (Also, the day I'm not irrationally paranoid about deleting my writing is the day hell freezes over. I backup save that shiz like its the nuclear codes)

I appreciate you showing us the honest and rough parts of the drafting process. It just shows how emotionally invested you are - and I'm here for it! ♡ I hope you get out of this "slump" soon!

OMG deleting the Scrivner file!! I'm sorry that happened :(((( I get anxious about moving things along too, especially since trad publishing takes sooo long. I once had a period where I couldn't even browse the YA section of a bookstore because it reminded me of just how much I was failing as a writer LOL. Even though that was a long time ago, I'm still checking in with myself and making sure that I am writing because I love writing and not because I want to get published (*esp* trad pub since there are too many steps not in our control 😵). I loved this vlog!! Thanks for sharing

This entire video is so relatable, but especially when you talked about feeling pressure to finish your current WIP quickly. I feel the exact same way with my current WIP, I feel like if I slow down I won't finish it and this book is so important to me I have to finish it. You got this! Keep going

I’m so sorry about your Scrivener file! You sound like you’re making amazing progress regardless! I love the new title! Can totally relate to the slump as I am struggling with my own novel and I believe I’m in Act 2 (I have about 25K and I’m an underwriter). But it’s a struggle! I love your videos! I hope you have a smoother journey. I love your blog, too! I definitely understand the struggle and wanting to query. Sending ease and lots of luck! 💜

I think aside from yourself, I might be the second most invested person in project Blanco/Local Heavens 😂. I'm already a huge fan of the Cyberpunk genre and I feel like a lot of our reading preferences align so of course you had me instantly. You mentioned you have a tendency of writing male protagonists as unassuming, ones that become tainted by other, more eccentric characters, but honestly that sounds like exactly what I love to read! If you do decide to publish I can't wait to support the book but even if you don't, consider me a major advocate. Sucks that the slump hit you but I hope the rest of the new year treats you better!!

ahhh thank you!! :) I feel like this book is the most self indulgent thing I’ve ever written so the support means a lot to me 😭

Losing writing is one of the worst things ever...one time I lost an entire manuscript and cried for several hours. But it helped me realize the importance of flexibility when it comes to writing. I had to move past the loss and the rewrite was even better

Subscribed! I'm also stuck at the beginning of act 2 in my current WIP. Everything you said about hitting a wall in act 2 and writing in chunks of 3's, I relate to more than I can explain. Also, hearing you talk about your Cyberpunk WIP is exciting. I hope you finish it and share it with the world. I'll be binge-watching all your videos for a while. #HappyWriting

i know right!! his writing style is so decadent and studying his work (especially all the stories leading up to Gatsby) is interesting. also finding that his early handwritten manuscripts are available to read online was very cool! i love watching a writer edit themselves

2:46 Are you kidding??? "They were passing the Dewside" paragraph is goddam beautiful! 7:50 Art is an iceberg. The passengers see a pretty little ice hat. The captain sees the chonker of material underneath that almost kills hi(s career). The four days of work you lost is all too familiar a feeling .... but that's perhaps because of my severe anxiety issues where a single page missing can literally send me into a corner in fetal position. It's tied inextricably to the burnout when you've been working for a very, very long time. 18:58 Sorry to hear that ... again. I wish we could switch places, where writing the middle part is fun for you, and writing the beginning is fun for me. I hate trying to start a story properly, because when it doesn't work and THAT'S the note you start your audience on, it's paaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaainful. 21:05 If it helps you in any way: sometimes more is less. We all know that a thousand words are worth a picture, but as authors we ALSO happen to know that 1000 words end up filling only two-ish pages of a manuscript. You believe you can accomplish something dynamic and full in emotional experience in one chapter as opposed to two? Go for it! You know you. 25:11 ..... Mood. You said it all as one word, "imgonnatrymybest", and that's the regular gas we put in our tanks to drive another 3 hours. 25:33 I like how you did your eyeliner. It makes your eyes extra brown. 😁 That's your vlog's positive end.

I have legit nightmares about crazy things happening to computers or files and losing progress on my WIPs or other written works. I think it's the only nightmares that are truly horrifying 😅.. Regardless, sorry about losing a few days worth of writing! I wish that on no write. Looking forward to seeing more vlogs and updates :).

It would be amazing if someone could transcribe the earlier draft of Gatsby. I read a few pages, definitely fascinating. Unfortunately my eyesight strains too much to read the whole thing.

I wish someone could help me understand how to enjoy writing and reading fiction. I've tried really hard to get into it but find it difficult to get past the pen whipping. It makes everything I read sound cheesy to me. For example, if my friend came over and I asked him what the weather was like and he said 'the tumultuous winds echoed ravenously, stirring echoes within my troubled soul', I'd probably punch him in his arm. But writers can't get enough of this. Also, I've read hundreds of books and seen thousands of movies and I've studied them all. Some of them were good and even enjoyable for me but in the end, I always just feel like the experience was just okay. Like if I had never read a novel, would my life have changed at all? Or would I have missed out on something? I'm not really sure... Does this mean fiction writing's not for me?

I think it’s about finding the kinds of story that do meaningful to you. and i wouldnt say all writers resonate with that maximalist style of prose! stories are interesting for all sorts of reasons - prose is just one part of it. I’m a big believer in the idea that there’s a story for everyone out there, but enjoying reading and writing comes down to learning what your tastes are. that’s a process that takes time. what helps me is analyzing every story I consume-if I liked it, I ask myself why on a world/character/theme level. If I don’t, I do the same exercise. and I always try to “meet a story where it’s at” meaning, I dont try to impose my own expectations on whats going to happen in a story. I try to understand what the writer’s intentions were and judge it on how well they executed that. that said, everyone’s journey with craft is different. whether or not writing is “for you” is 100% a subjective thing only you can decide for yourself! plus, it’s a constant journey, not an end state. some days you might love storytelling and writing. other days it might seem cheesy or unfulfilling. doesn’t mean you’re not a writer, just means you’re human lol.
