Another scouting trip! With the water levels in most Florida rivers and creeks very high due to a lot of rain, we've been exploring new sites lately, taking the chances with the snakes and other wild creatures to hopefully locate new areas that have never been hunted before. These videos are to show you guys just what goes into finding a good fossil hunting site here in Florida.
The process of finding a new site usually begins with geologic maps which are then overlaid with topographic maps to show which creeks and rivers cut into the correct sediments that contain the fossils you'd like to find. After that, you need to mark those creeks on a map and find places to access it. Next, you have to plan a trip out to the location and do like we do here in this video.
If you guys enjoyed this video, make sure to hit that thumbs up button for me.

Black water Hattie lived back in the swamp where the strange green reptiles crawl. Snakes hang thick from cypress trees like sausage on a smoke house wall. Well the swamp’s alive with a thousand eyes and all of em watching you. Stay off the track to Hattie’s shack in the back of the black bayou.

Guys. GUYS. Go hunt up a nice free geocaching program and download it to your phones so you can log the location of your car, okay? I do that when I'm tromping through the desert, 'cause I get lost Big Time and I don't want to spend my night huddled on top of a boulder while the coyotes play piñata with my toes. Some of them show aerial maps; might help with the creek location, though I know they do break their banks and wander. Why y'all haven't been bitten by water moccasins yet I can't imagine. Beautiful shark teeth and other stuff; I'm really curious about that vert.
