One of the perks of doing these "week in the life of a PhD vlogs at UBC": I get to see how my week unfolds real-time with you. I've learned that my mood and energy level goes up and down like a rollercoaster, but I tend to focus on the negative energy. Going through my video clips reminds me that I have more good days than bad, and that's a huge win! What started off as a rough week ended up turning out to be a great week! Sometimes you just have to hang in there and keep trying to show up. Things usually work out in the end. If not, you can cry and it'll all be ok eventually (crying is good for you, but no crying this week).

Hi! I'm Anne if you're new here :) I'm a 4th year PhD student at UBC. I do research in the field of drug delivery and nanomedicine. I enjoy making "a day in the life of a phd" vlogs to document my journey and share the ups and downs in grad school. I also like to make phd student advice/tips videos related to grad school! Thanks for stopping by ^^

LOVE watching you do science! and I'm so glad you're doing better emotionally! life is truly a roller coaster but that's also why we gotta cherish moments where things are good:) also an interesting thought is that I actually intentionally keep my channel away from my irl social media bc I'm too introverted to bear the judgement (or support and curiosity) from the people who actually know me in person lol I'm just weird lmao

D'awww thanks Lishu 🥰 omg that's such a smart idea LOL people in my faculty know I post these videos and sometimes I get self-conscious the day after I post xD but I also talk a lot in my videos and my lab is surrounded by glass walls so it would be hard to film without people seeing. I think you should share!!! I don't think the people who know you would judge you at all 💕 I find that the people in my life who aren't in research appreciate seeing what it's like to work in a lab since it's usually such a foreign concept to them.

Today I decided to not go to the lab and I ended up watching your vlog to get some motivation but instead found this little piece of motivation xD "Some days, you just have to leave and quit" HAHAHA omg, my first comment on your vlog Anne~ :) I'm gonna take a breather and thank you for sharing your week to us! I'm inspired to vlog my lablife as well but am so afraid of public speaking and camera-shy especially when other people are there lol

HAHA your comment made my day, Hannah!! And I 100% support your decision to take a breather! Your research is still there once you come back ;) OMG please try to vlog your lablife! I find there's not many others that share their day-to-day in wet lab research but when I do come across someone that does it is pure GOLD. It is awkward at first, talking to a camera is the most unnatural thing in the world to me. But I pretend my camera is my friend that's tagging along to see what I'm up to 😂 and you get used to it. I would LOVE to see your research!!

I'm curious if you looked into the impact of anti-PEG antibody responses following repeat dosing on the half-life of the micelles in plasma? I can easily imagine it going either way, that either antibody binding to the micelles could either increase stability and half-life, or it could reduce it by marking the micelles for ingestion by macrophages. I imagine in a clinical context it would be important to deliver multiple doses, so I'd be super curious to see how the particles perform on repeat dosing. :D

P.S., I just came across your channel because I've recently been considering re-applying to PhD programs (virology/immunology), and I've been binge-watching this series. I really love your videos!

Also: can't you scale up (further) your compound synthesis for bigger batches and reduced batch to batch variation?
@anniochan
@anniochan 3 жыл бұрын
I probably can increase it higher but one of the starting materials tends to have lower yield with increased scale so I find it's most convenient to work at the scale I'm working at now
