You just know that the kids are going to be heading straight up that roof from the upper deck! We had a window that opened over the garage roof on the house when we were kids, and we used to hide out there from mom when we were in trouble. She eventually caught on. 😉

As a retired roofer may I suggest a fix to that dead valley on your roof? Measure 4or 5 foot up the wall side of roof or bottom of shingle in that area Measure across to valley cut triangle piece plywood to fit , you will need to make some rafters under that to support it. I suggest getting a qualified roofer to roof it with a pvc roof, glued down turned up the wall a minimum of 1 foot glued to wall and tucked up under to shingles at least 1 1/2 foot . Qualified roofer will know proper ways to water tight . I say those Measurements to give you an idea of what it should be. That should change the valley direction away from dead ending right into the wall. Run by Donavan see what he thinks 😁👍🇺🇸

Isn’t it like a dream come true. My wife and I are watching this series and we both agree, those were the fun days. One time I got home from work and my wife and my daughter took down a plaster lath wall. My wife said we had to stop because we ran into these wires. Plaster dust everywhere, ugh. But those were the fun days.

Having built a few houses for Habitat for Humanity, all our architect made really simple plans that made sense. I have looked at a lot of houses to buy(some to live in, some to flip) and have always been tilting my head sideways and wondering who designed this(or that) house. Love that ya'll planned to weather in this part for the winter, so many wait too long and pay the price. Great build, looking forward to seeing it all come together.

@MikeC19100
@MikeC19100 2 жыл бұрын
The addition is looking great so far. It was good to see that you at least got it buttoned-up for the winter months and don't have to deal with the weather causing problems with the materials when you start back up in the spring. The architect and builders that designed that valley of the original structure had a major head-up-their-backside moment when they approved and then built it that way. It's unbelievable that any builder would do that knowing the problems that it will cause over time. Your full gutters are a visible result to what problems that causes, but some of that can be corrected with some gutter shields, but that won't fix the valley Delima. Also, knowing the rotting issues you had in that corner, it might be a good time to research getting and installing a commercial (AKA much larger) size gutter for that corner, which would help to channel the majority of the water away from that corner.

Matt, Ususally when the walls go up it looks smaller. But from the views we see, it looks bigger. I’m sure the Pirate (and his wench) approves. She probably wants to put furniture in already and see how it will be arranged… haha! How about…….. (wait for it), I was thinking of how you could solve your leaf valley problem, when you easily climbed up to the top ridge where two ridge beams connect. Its such a nice view, how about a little "perch or Perculloa for two” so you and Lindsay can admire your acres and acres of beautiful land. With a mobile phone controlled PTZ camera, you two could also watch the land for security. But mostly just go up and sit and admire your vast land ownership… (where’s Rawhide Rowdy Cates when you need him?). Donovan could build a step system to get up there from the new roof porch which could also somehow also be built to divert your leaf compost valley pile accumulation problem. Just make sure to lock the gate so the pirate and his cohorts in crime crew (plus the little girl deckhand) wouldnt go up there to be on the lookout for British and Spanish warships. Donovan, wish you lived closer to me. You do some outstanding work and I’m sure you're proud of all your projects!

You are correct, that valley is a disaster waiting to happen. If you have a chance, decrease the pitch of the upper roof and move the valley to the left. Good luck with the tarp through the winter. I have a nail gun that will drive the nails for those hangers. Donovan should have one. I would loan you mine. PS, Tyvek is only rated for six months in the weather. You should replace it in the spring. Nice work looking good

I guess the alternative to using the speed square would have been to ask Matt to just skim a little off with his planer. :O Since you are working on the whole construction thing I would work out a way to eliminate the leaf catching valley in some way. You can also see there was an ice issue with the heat wires installed.
