Many different designs for each type of project are also included. For example, there are hundreds of designs kzfaq.infoUgkxb2mhCug-GkCWrq69Ce2I0nM0D4QpxAqu for outdoor buildings, from small sheds all the way up to a complete stable. Choose whatever type of shed or storage house is right for you. Pick from fancy ones or more utilitarian designs.

Hey Matt love the videos just wanted to point out that @ 16 minutes there's a nail that only went in half way and was covered up. It will definitely work it's way through the shingle covering it and leak. Im sure you probably noticed it and banged it in when Donovan wasn't looking. Lol You are an inspiration my friend God bless you and your family

Synthetic underlayment - doesn't rip, is WAY cooler on a hot day on a roof, it's more durable, it's lighter, and it's (almost all top brands) 'premarked' so it's super easy to follow a line, spacing etc. It's a bit more expensive than traditional tarp but it's 100% worth the price. And for one guy, Donovan is pretty impressive, his range of knowledge, no-nonsense and fast. To hire someone like that, with his skills and conscientious building practices (we all know fewer and fewer are these days)...normally, if they weren't friends - way way expensive.

It's a special guy that lets the homeowner follow him around and document every tiny detail of the build. Way too many contractors are wary of so many eyeballs on the quality of their work, especially given the nasty, retard nature of Utube pundits and yahoos. So hats off to Donovan for being bold and open to this invasive but entertaining project.

I have done the ice & water shield up the cheek walls - snow can drift there, and wick in behind the siding, and you can get a *lot* of water dripping in there. So behind the step flashing up the wall at least 18" - higher than snow can drift. This is the first time I have seen a continuous starter strip - that's nice! And man - the telehandler is amazing! Schlepping bundles up to the roof is the hardest bit.

I'm glad to see Donovan overlap the shingles in a 50/50 overlap. I hate it when you see crews only overlap a half a tab and shingle straight up the roof in rows. That leaves so much potential for leaks when they shortcut to save time. The scabs that did my roof 7 yrs ago did half tab overlaps and removed all my flashing and just wove the shingles in the valleys without flashing. The shingles have shrunk over time and the valleys are raised up where you can reach your whole arm up under the valleys now and I have major leaks in heavy rain. I've been waiting for 2 yrs now for them to come look at their work and fix it.

I was taught only to nail the step flashing on the vertical surface (the side wall). The whole idea is that if water gets under the shingles it will roll down onto the surface of the flashing and onto the top of the next shingle. Nailing into the flat surface creates a point of entry for water at every nail. Can you explain why Donovan would be nailing the flashing that way?

Even the rund down backyard sheds have slate roofs! Totally amazed. However, I did see new homes, condo style, where the roofs looked like imitation slates. Real slates are really expensive ( but last forever I guess), are these imitations slates made of rubber? or maybe I saw wrong??

The tar-paper would stick to the roof on a colder day by taking a few extra moments to heat along the bottom side of the tar paper a little bit with a heat gun if you have the patience to do so before tacking it all down. Good thing that when summer comes it will heat up and stick down then possibly if you have extra patience to wait that long for it to adhere to the flashing a lot better. Gaf says it should be nailed to the roof. They say when you nail vertically it causes bucking in summer. The flashing needs to be allowed to move with the roof, not against it. Nails are caulked.

Personally, I don’t nail it at all. I let the roofing hold it until I stick the ice and water to the to the top. Then the siding holds all.

why wouldn't you just close up the bit of wall siding, and put flashing under the roof to wall join at the roof peak?

You may be wondering why they stagger the shingles. It's an OSHA safety requirement. It's so if someone has been drinking and is walking on the roof and they stagger it will seem normal to them, they won't get vertigo, and they won't fall off of the roof.

Matt, your leaf-clogged gutters are driving me f'ing nuts. You are already up there--clean those bastards out! And do it on film so we get the satisfaction, too.
