I never assumed he was Moriarty. Not even for a second. I expected some kind of grand entrance where he announces who he is. Not something simple like this. Scott killed it in the role.

Which, funny enough, fits Moriarty pretty well. In the books he was always this mysterious figure for a few books before he appeared personally and Sherlock didn't even expect to see him there (if I remember correctly).

I think he genuinely thought that he was doing her a favor by pointing out that she was dating a gay man which would be a waste of her time and lead to her getting hurt if they got serious. It reminds me of how Ross from Friends was caught by surprise when his first wife left him because she was a lesbian. On top of that, everyone but him said that they knew and didn't inform him.

I just love this episode. Moriarty gives Sherlock a case and even has the kindness to look him over the shoulder while he's investigating. The swimming pool scene is just hilarious after that first meeting "Not so gay anymore am I Sherlock?" lmao

Amazing how Moriarty can fool Sherlock being that Miss Adler avoided disguise because Sherlock could read it if she did. Besides the fact that he realized what Kitty (journalist) did on purpose to test it. Even with all this, Sherlock did not realize that Jim was just pretending. Moriarty is a genius. ♥

Aequitas1995, Irene did NOT match Sherlock's intelligence. He beat her in the end, figured out her code, unlocked a bunch of secret information for her. She didn't do a single thing that matches up to his intelligence; she was clever but that was it. He even saved her in the end from execution lol.

@@winonification no, he really dated her. they went out three times. jim texted her on her blog, where he said that she has a cute nose. they started talking, and then he invited her to grab a coffee in the canteen. later he was in her house. she introduced him to her cat, toby. they watched glee together and jim learned her how to use autocorrect. it's all written in her blog. when she found out that he was gay (well, when sherlock told her), molly got angry at him and started shouting. she dumped him. later she was worried, because he didn't show up to work and his boss was getting angry. she apologized to him for screaming at him, told him it was okay if he's gay, but she wanted him to let her now, that he's okay. then she found out that jim from it was actually jim moriarty. that's the end of their love story :P

Nobody seems to talk about how Moriarty hid himself from sherlock's deductions, I mean he knew Mary was a liar when they first met so the fact the most noticeable thing to Sherlock was gay from Moriarty is impressive.

At 00:44, the look of utter disdain on his face after Jim immediately excuses himself the MOMENT he leaves his number. I think he truly believed Molly was lying to him and was trying to make him jealous in the beginning * Notice the only reason he even GLANCED at Jim was because Molly said "Office Romance", So, he noticed he was "gay" to call her out on it, recognized she was shocked by it and tried to play it off, then got absolutely irritated once he realizes Jim isn't there to corroborate any sort of relationship story, but JUST to leave Sherlock his number.

What I like about this is Moriarty being able to come across as unassuming so that Sherlock doesn't suspect anything about him at first (it's a great way to introduce a villain with ulterior motives into a story)! 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓

Their is so much context and sub context in this one scene that I have watched it over 50 times and still don't think I've connected everything. The writers of this show are amazing. That one scene gives away almost every episode of the series in less than a few minutes

Actually, no. This is only the third episode. She was never really formally introduced to John. Molly and John really start to meet more frequently at the start of season 2 after the Christmas party.

As much as Sherlock is… well, Sherlock-ish toward John, you can tell he genuinely respects him and his opinions, and also holds John’s intellect to a higher standard than anyone else in this show, aside from his siblings.
