This Shimano TLD 50 LRS was brought in, with the customer saying the handle was shaky. It didn't seem terrible to me, but he didn't like it. When examining the reel, it also felt like the pinion bearing was also bad. Here's the video of the diagnosis and fix + how to take apart, service & reassemble. I, generally, use a ratcheting, interchangeable regular-sized screwdriver for the initial loosening of screws. Here's a link to the brand I use:

Get some additional, varying sizes Flathead and Phillips bits while you're at it.
The adjustable wrenches I use (instead of hex nut wrenches) are Husky, but these (with the red insert) work very well... 6-inch will be used the most:

While you don't like working on the TLD50, I don't mind them as long as I keep up on cleaning and lubrication's. I own multiples of International's, as usually I purchased a pair at a time. I was looking for a cheaper alternative to a 50SW and the TLD50 fit that bill. I like your attitude towards repairs. I'm sure you have many repeat customers.

Trying to figure out why my low gear won't engage any ideas? Looking for a video how the gold sleeve goes inside of the drive shaft any idea if the teeth face up or down?

I put it back together the low and high gear engage but when reel is back together the low gear seems like it wants to slip and dosnt catch the teeth everytime ? Any suggestions?

@@turningthehandle2475 check and make sure that both springs in the main drive shaft have been returned correctly I.e. small spring into the sleeve and under the gear select cross bar. Schemetics do indicate otherwise

I have a TLD 30 with a broken handle knob. How do I remove the knob bin?

I assume it's the newer handle, and not the older one with the hard plastic knob.... I think you should be able to pop the cap and unscrew it (see this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/beCgg62bv7-Vqmw.html) to put a sub knob on. If no screw, cut the shaft off and install an aftermarket knob or buy a new handle.

Thanks for watching! Most likely the pinion bearing. It's usually locked up when you take it out and try to spend it in your fingers, but sometimes it'll still spin but still be bad I need to be replaced. Thanks again.

I think it depends on the repair, if it requires tearing down over 50% then it’s rediculous not to clean it and the customer should be told or be aware, I know time is money, but I could not let a internally dirty reel leave being the customer could blame you for issues down the road. Not that it’s your fault but customers can be really rediculous.

Thanks for watching! I agree with you, but I'm not an engineer. They have lots of intelligence and knowledge in their R & D dept., so I'm guessing it's probably something to do with the frame's integrity for the dimensions. I can say it's not one of of favorite reels to work on because of the limited room work in. 🙂 More vids to come.... spread the word about the channel.
