I saw Jerry probably over 150 times since 1973. Haven't been the same since August of 1995, when he died. From Capitan Trips Dark Star, to Mission in the Rain, How Sweet it Was. In 1975 I drove all the way from New York to Stinson Beach, in hopes of meeting him. Was Blessed to live in the Bay Area when he used to play the Oakland Colosseum every New Years, Shoreline Summers, and the Warfield in San Francisco. He taught me a thing or 2 about having heart and soul. When he sang and played guitar, my heart would dance. One of the greatest humans ever. Love you Jerry!

i just thank god for all the tapers! imagine if GD live just didnt exist. my whole life would be different. Jerrys and especially Bobs playing has affected my own quite a bit. even trying phil stuff on bass...which i totally still cant do but....my point is at least we can enjoy real life magic that just happened to be recorded.

my dog roach just passed, and two weeks ago my cat mj passed too :( we always listened to jerry together. i dunno about my cat but my roach absolutely loved the dead, i believe he could feel the love and joy this music brings me. i sure hope roach and mj are together and enjoying jerry's music in heaven.

The Dead had a few good years after 1980 but yeah. Things went downhill fast in 1982 but they bounced back a few times. 1989 for instance. But I hear ya.

@@tonis500 LMAO!!! I still love "Dead and Company" though. Especially Oteil, and Jeff interacting with John. The drummers save the day. Especially Billy! He's propelled them down the road/rails with consistent playing from the start. The drummers really keep it going! Jerry was very subtle and understated, in many ways. He was the master of not playing "too much", yet "playing over the top", when needed. He knew what we needed(almost indescribably?), and would often bowl a strike! If he didn't make it, get ready for an amazing spare that's never been done! He'd pull that kind of stuff often. A 'Great Thanks!', to every taper, some of the most interesting, exciting, incredible people with an incredible amount of depth and understanding of "American Music". They're music will be sought far into the future! "They're not the best at what they do..." "They're the only ones that do what they do!"

It can't be as good as the original, and it can't be the same, but I think from a purely musical standpoint he did what he set out to do. In a huge way he did it.

This show in Hampton was exceptional! A few songs in when Jerry thanked Bruce for sittin' in, the crowd went wild with the Bruuuuuuuuuuce that resonated from the back of the Coliseum in a wave all the way to the stage. Jerry just stepped back, hands across guitar and surveyed the crowd. He knew he was on Bruce's turf for sure and that just made Bruce rock those ivories even more! This show is legendary!

This is the absolute best version of this song ever performed and is one of many great performances given during 1991 - possibly the last last really strong and exceptionally beautiful year of Jerry's career before the final fall. It was clear he had way more fun in JGB than with the Dead around this time. Love seeing the old man belt it and break out that china cat grin on the last loud choruses of the song - he's having a good time!!

This always reminds me of my beloved sister who passed last year! She was definitely a Shining Star! The most selfless human i ever had the pleasure of being around! If a couple of days went by and she didn't hear from me, she would jokingly say.. "What, a ya mad at me?" We never ever had a disagreement!!! And she was even closer to my other sister!! But we had some crazy bond that i will always treasure......... I miss u terribly! RIP Dee!!!

One of the best things about Jerry’s playing was that no song was ever played the same way twice. Which means every performance is so unique that it’s imprinted on your brain, especially if you were there. I was here. I still hear it, with my eyes closed, even in my sleep, I would recognize this exact performance anywhere. Thank you, Jerry, thank you so much for this gift. And those back up singers, so amazing, so engaged with the audience. Very special.

What a show! It was general admission and somehow my buddy Ralph & I ended up just one person 'off the rail' right in front of Jerry! Well worth the trip from Athens Ga.... It was magical... Still shakes me to the core....

I remember when I was a little girl hearing the Manhattans Shining Star , then I grew up to be a deadhead I remember seeing my first Jerry shining star in Landover in 1988. when my son Addison was born. I would sing it everyday to him I just got back from Boulder scene dead and Company so much fun but I do miss Jerry

Yes. I have as many Grateful Dead live CDs as anyone you know. And a Lot of GGB live. The first time I heard this I cried. Paralyzed. It’s definitely one of his greatest performances ever. Expert’s are definitely within 10:32 the eye of the beholder. You are an Expert on the subject. ❤

Beautiful guitar work;I always had a hard time with the awkward timing changes on this song.So intricate and heart felt.Now I understand Jerry's reason for doing this Motown tune.This song caught me wrong the first time hearing it at Squa. Valley.Tremendous Jerry vocals to top it.PEACE.

I sang this song Every Day to my son when he was born he is now 21 I just got back from seeing the dead and Company in Boulder it was a beautiful time but I still miss Jerry

So miss him. Could not believe it when I first saw JGB not really knowing their music, Chula Vista, 1992, and he pulled this out second set and I was BLOWN AWAY. Those backup singers have angels abseiling down their vocal chords.

I remember listening to the original version by The Manhattans as a kid on the radio.... it always struck me as such a unique and beautiful song. But wow, Jerry.... he obviously felt the same way.... what an incredible cover this is.... the man had soul!!! God Bless ya, Jerry....

I met Jerry backstage at this show.. We hit it off and he offered to mentor me in my guitar playing pilgrimage. We became very close and he confided many of his deepest thoughts with me. Miss him very much!!! RIP Jerry my dear friend!!!
