Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter ‘used and abused’ his positions, Feds say

Authorities announced federal charges against Ippei Mizuhara, who allegedly helped set up a bank account for Shohei Ohtani in 2018. NBC Los Angeles’ Karma Dickerson reports.

Well, I immigrated to the US from Japan. Back then, my English was so poor that I had a bilingual friend help me open my bank accounts. Japanese banking protocols were a bit different from those in the US, so I didn’t know how to transfer money, etc. My friend helped me understand those steps. I only have small amounts in my account and nothing really to steal, but this incident reminds me of that time.

Just speaking hypothetically, but high level athletes have had gambling issues before and a lot of the psychology behind this stuff makes sense, because it’s all a competition. It’s a “high”, so to speak that resonates more so with athletes and sports fans. For example, look at Phil Mickelson, Pete Rose, Michael Jordan (not necessarily sports gambling).

@@thomassharer8453 I understand that part, but still doesn’t explain why he doesn’t gamble on sports he at least understands or in Japanese sports. Again gambling is an addiction that starts gradual, I don’t think he woke up one day and said, I have $500k to burn let me put it on a game I have no understanding of.

Japanese people are famous for their loyalty to their friends and will do anything to help their friends if they are in trouble. Ohtani is in the big leagues and needs help.
