Shooting pigs / hogs on and around a sorghum crop with my 308 Winchester rifle. Bonus invasive feral cats and foxes cop the hammer too. Great trip on the ATV shooting these feral animals with the thermal equipment. Challenging to get the buggers with so much cover in the crop. They only come out to drink and mainly in the wee hours of the morning, Worth the effort though.
For those interested I'm shooting a Ruger American Predator 18" chambered in 308 Winchester. Fitted into a MDT Gen 2 LSS chassis and running reloads with 150 grain Hornady SST projectiles. My thermal scope is a Pulsar Thermion 2 XP50.
Final tally was 15 pigs, 4 feral cats and 10 foxes.

I have a suggestion I think if you set up a specific payment cccount aimed at killing just cats, you would do well From the viewer perspective, being able to pay kind of like a "bounty" for every feral cat killed would be appealing ( i currently dont spend money on Patreon for anyone else, but would be happy to be your first paying customer for cat kills ) You should consider using something like this ... gogetfunding.com/ to keep it separate from your regular paying subscrribers hope it works out for you !!

@@brucebaxter6923 nope. Whilst they do kill a fair few mice. Cats and foxes kill to many vulnerable natives to make it worth while at all. That sort of thinking is what caused the cat problem in the first place to be honest.

Regarding cats, we have a similar problem here in Denmark. With the exception of a small number of wolves in the western part of Denmark, the largest predators we have in country are badgers, foxes and cats. Disregarding the others, both feral and pet cats kill a lot of birds and small game every year, even though we have laws clearly stating that pet cats are not allowed to roam, unless in a rural area, where they're considered pest control against mice and rats. And being apex predators, thet have caused a lot of our small game species to become endangered. So, i'm happily showing support for the good work you do. :-)

There are 12 million cats in the UK! (That are known about) if 25% are too young to hunt, 25% are too old to hunt and 25% aren't allowed out that leaves 3 million cats hunting wildlife. If they only kill one animal a week each that's 156 million little animals getting murdered every year!!! Pet cats should be made illegal worldwide.

Nathan every time you knock a Feral Cat off it's pogo stick you earn another gold star on my approval rating! A study conducted in the Pilbara some years ago found that even though they have not been present there for all that long relatively speaking, Feral cats in the region already differ biologically in distinctive ways from their domesticated cousins. For example the Feral Vermin have more robust attachment points for jaw and neck muscles including denser bone structure. Reducing Feral Cat numbers at every opportunity has always been my top priority and most satisfying achievement since I bought my first rifle which was a 'stock-standard', full-wood SMLE chambered in .303 British. From memory I purchased it for $16 via mail order sometime during 1974 after I turned 16. It arrived via the postal service no license required and I could often hit a matchbox on top of a fence post with it at 100 yards using the standard military open sights. I remember buying surplus ammo for next to nothing and on at least two occasions I received batches via the mail which were still attached to canvas feed belts for the .303 Vickers machine gun. Unfortunately the spent cartridge cases were quite difficult to reload due to them using Berdan primers necessitating removal of spent primers via a hydraulic method. But since surplus ammo still only cost a few cents per round even thirty years after WWII reloading for the purpose of saving money was not a concern and the surplus stuff was of a very high standard both with regard to reliability and accuracy. I even had a few rounds of .303 with round-nosed nickel FMJ projectiles dating back to when my Grandfather served on the Somme during WWI but have no idea where they are now and suspect I probably gave them away to a collector. I now wish I had also kept those old cartridges because I currently own a Ross Rifle manufactured in Canada in 1904 which is chambered for .303 British, it would have been interesting to see if the old cartridges of similar age would still fire! The Vickers belts I received way back were invariably in pristine condition with a beautifully made solid brass tongue attached at one end, presumably for feeding the belts through the breech of a Vickers MG! I now regret not keeping at least one of the belts as a memento because they have probably become quite rare. I do still have a couple of canvas pouches for Bren-Gun magazines which I once used for storage space on a dirt bike I rode while hunting Feral pigs.

Cats in the right place are pets, in the bush with a rosella in its mouth convinced me that it deserved a ticket out and it got one thanks to a .270 Winchester. Painless, didn't know what hit. One bird a day is 365 a year - basically pigs arse to feral cats, foxes and pigs. Another great video Nathan.

In the late 80s, a friend managed a cattle stud outside of Rockhampton. When they first moved into the house on the property, there was a lot of paraphernalia from the owners and their parents & great grandparents. Hands down the most bizarre things were a number of 'dolls' made from rabbit and cat skins turned inside-out. They were dressed as dolls would be but had freakish heads.

I like the drone footage. Reminds me of a Lunkers TV episode where Rob went to a company in the Texoma area (around Lake Texoma, the border between Texas and Oklahoma) and this company has a package deal. You fly around in a helicopter and hunt feral hog with AR-15s that they rent to you. It serves a useful purpose to the farmers. Most of the crops in this area are corn, wheat, winter wheat, animal feed grain, and milo. Texas has no bag limit or weapon restriction or season limit on feral hog. Some state hunting properties may have a season limit but only to hunters off to ease the pressure for other game. For example, a place that I hunt stops feral hog hunting in the first half of March and closes for a few weeks to prepare for eastern spring turkey. Anyway, good on you for hunting and saving crops.

Thanks mate. I think what many fail to understand is that our feral animal control in Australia, and most "hunting". Is the difference between having an amazing hunting model in the USA that protects and grows native game species. To us Aussie's who live in a country that requires the eradication of invasive species to achieve the same 🤙
@ronws2007
@ronws2007 2 жыл бұрын
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK And when it comes to game conservation, hunting actually helps. Because so many people want to hunt and pay for state hunting licenses and state hunting permits, there is man power and resources to grow herds. In addition to hunting feral pest species that can also grow unchecked.

Well done on taking out those feral cats, people new to Australia don't realise that they are responsible for wiping out some of our small native marsupials. Just be careful handling the carcass as they often carry a range of nasty zoonotic diseases. When they come into contact with domesticated cats, they often transfer disease to these cats without the owners knowledge. Personally I believe there needs to be stricter laws around owning cats in Australia.

CSIRO did some studies a while back. Had shooters send cat carcases in so they could study their stomach contents. Each cat on average had 9/10 native critters in its belly. Native mice, birds, frogs, lizards etc. An estimated 20 million feral cats in Australia killing on average 10 native critters each per night. Its not hard to add that number up. Its no surprize then that Australia is the Small species extinction epicentre on the planet. Each female can birth 5-6 kittens , 3/4 times a year. Between them and foxes, our little native critters have no defence. Each one shot can save hundreds of thousands of our little critters. It is Well past time our govt put permanent national bounties on foxes and cats, along with feral dogs. They dont belong here, and every single one needs to go. Great vid mate, and nice shooting :)
