it wasnt so much "planned obsolescence" as it was "really shoddy workmanship." something like 2/3 of the machines simply broke in various ways that made them unusable, all still within their warranty periods. ill stick with the plastic asus myself. ive had a few of their hotter laptops in the past, and theyve always been dead nuts stable long past their actual performance lifespan. hell, i just retired a 2nd gen i7 RoG laptop 2 months ago, and only because some physical damage happened to the board.

@@TheBaldr My GF's been using her 2018 blade doing loads of heavy photoshop, Substance Painter and Maya work on it as well as daily driving it as only computer and it works as well as it did day 1. Basically carried her through her bachelor's degree in multimedia, and it's only downside was the flimsy battery life which didn't matter for her since she has to plug her graphics tablet to work anyway. I keep hearing those second-hand horror stories about Razer, but have yet to meet anyone who had issues with them directly IRL. I hear their customer support's shit, but we have yet to need it.

Kinda feels like the gaming laptop reviews for 2020 are all going: Budget gaming: If you save up a little more, you could buy a G14 instead of the one we're reviewing now. Mid-tier gaming: This is a solid laptop, but if you're willing to sacrifice screen size for portability, you can buy a G14. Premium gaming: This laptop is expensive but if you're willing to compromise a bit more, you could buy a G14 instead.

@@martinpecar7683 of course a ips panel has more latency then a tn panel, but for a laptop, ips is actual important in compare to a monitor and thats why any new laptop has one.. if you rly considering this for esport games, you should get just a tn 144hz monitor or better hooked up with it or a desktop pc. if you dont plan a pro career, this laptop will satisfy with the ips benefits like color, brightness and viewing angle stability, you wont feel the latency except you playing on 240hz Tn panel professional (atleast 6 hours a day non stop gaming).

@@Xenoray1 I am a uni student, I am not really planning on going pro since I am enjoying the subject and I am currently already working in the industry and loving it. I just like a simple game of league or r6s. I am currently rocking an old lenovo laptop with a TN panel, really bad colours, viewing angles and even resolution and also I have an external monitor, which is fine in terms of viewing angles etc, but I have experienced some moments, where even my deutan eyes have seen some bad color representation on that one. I tried some calibration with a buddy, but it didn't really help. From time to time I do some light photo editing, astrophotography and family events and none of those monitors really do the job for me, when I know I cannot count on them. And I mean... Just as @Skyrimpersonified said, I was mainly worried about the 40ms numbers I've seen online.

It’s worth noting that the he Zephyrus G14 has a whole host of problems too. •The screen has a 40ms response time, making the 120Hz screen useless. •Soldered RAM, preventing upgrades. •It’s literally an oven. It's more the video card then the CPU. Yes, the CPU in the G14 is much faster, but in gaming it gets beat by much slower CPU's on a 1660 TI GPU (80w vs 65w GPU). So the CPU is very useful outside of gaming, but the GPU is really the decider for FPS.

That is mainly due to the fact that i already have the horse power on my desktop, so what i would buy would be the stealth 13 (which is smaller than the zephyrus, I don't this its that fair of a comparison). It’s worth noting that the he Zephyrus G14 has a whole host of problems too. •The screen has a 40ms response time, making the 120Hz screen useless. •Soldered RAM, preventing upgrades. •It’s literally an oven. One criticism I have of this review is that when testing the games, you guys recorded the gameplay. I personally think that most people won't be recording their gameplay and we shouldn't see the experience through the eyes of someone who does. I would rather see you guys test it and give your opinion without recording. Then record Broll after the segment is done to slot into the video. That way you get the best of both worlds, higher fps while reviewing and sexy b-roll for the video. Love you guys, keep up the good work.

Great review! The thing is, that afaik the Asus is only at that price point in the US. Here in Germany it is ~$2.500 or e.g. ~$2250 in the UK. Thus for many people a G14 can only be compared to a Razer Balde 15 or other gaming (ultra-)books for $2000 up to $2500. I'd love to see the Razer quality with an AMD CPU and with that maybe even a lower price. At the moment I just don't see a real competitor out there with the same premium build quality (yes I've read the stories of machines breaking after a few month and bad service, but I've never had problems with Razer products myself so far). But I guess you can find this for many if not all manufactureres. My father has 2 Surface prodcust and complains all the time, now has a Lenovo to and already had complaints there. I've worked for some time in retail and would never advice to by an Acer from what I've seen there. Asus had a really really bad customer service in Europe for a long time, mnight be better now but I didn't by anything from them after what I've experience persoanlly and with devices from customers. Lenove is only good with business devices/contracts (we have X1 Carbon at work, several broke but support&replacement was decent...build quqility though for a $2000+ machine is not that great...and I've had Thinkpad in the good old IBM days. That was build quality!. Best service/support experience so far I had with Dell, but just with screens I have from them. Might be different with laptops..
