Exactly, when heritage players represent their country and win, they make it seem like a big problem and how they are not actually from that country. But, when they lose, it’s not a big deal. When it comes to the light of social media, everyone seems to make a big fuss out of it.

As a half Filipino whose Filipina mom left this world in 2019, I have been finding within myself to be more connected to my Filipino side ever since, including taking up Filipino martial arts. But you’re HALF PINOYS FROM YOUR MOM SIDE. Even you’re born & raise in US OR WESTERN & CANT SPEAK PINOYS!! It’s still make you PINOYS!! 22 member of team, only have 1 PINOYS. 21 of girl in the team don’t even have 50% or 1/4 quarters PINOYS BLOOD. And they’re born & raise in WESTERN THEN GET SELECT TO PLAY FOR PHILIPPINES TEAMS!! Ppl use to troll FRENCH FOOTBALL TEAM IF BLACK AFRICAN. But half of the teams is BLACK AFRICAN BORN & RAISE IN FRENCH. They’re not White French but at least they’re born & raise in French, have French cultures in their mindset & blood. That’s why ppl think it’s not right at Philippine teams this years!! Even you gave 1/4 quarters PINOYS, and love Pinoys cultures & consider yourself Pinoys -> everyone accept you’re Pinoys!! But these girl don’t even have 1/4 quarters PINOYS BLOOD.

I use to know a couple PINOYS in 2008. They’re Pinoys but have Chinese mix blood. Their great-great grandparents was Chinese merchants trade though merchant ships then settled in Manila around 1570-1590. After 2,3 generation they’re married to locals Pinays. So in his family trees, have married with Chinese & Pinays, that’s why till his generation he’s have 30% Chinese blood, 60% native Pinoys. Later trees family married with Pinoys only. But since their ancient is Chinese that’s why it still have 30% Chinese in his blood. Because of wars & trades history, PHILIPPINES HAVE MIX BLOOD WITH SPANISH, Japanese, Chinese, then later is American. So no one surprise if there are mix blood Pinoys. Ppl point out this team because they’re not even have Pinoys blood. They’re also not FOREIGNERS BORN & RAISE IN PHILIPPINES. Rather they’re foreigners with no Pinoy blood but born & raise in Philippines, it make sense. But they’re not. Only 1 homegrown girl in team is a Pinoys.

Citizenship in the Philippines is based on "Jus Sanguini ", meaning by blood... ergo if your parents are Filipino, you qualify to be a Filipino. while in other countries like the USA, citizenship is based on " Jus Solis ". If you are born in the US, you automatically acquire US citizenship.

The ignorance of "Asian Americans," is significant. Ask the 100 million Filipinos back in the Philippines if they care if she's half "black," or half "American." I guess you Asians in American really love to label the f*** out of yourselves. This is happening with all teams of all sports. I'm from America, but my mother is Puerto Rican. The Philippines was a colonial country for centuries. It started from the merchant Spaniards, Americans, Japanese, Chinese. It’s hard to find one 100% Filipino. I myself am Aussie-Filo, based here in New Zealand. But, I dont look a moreno Filo, as what most of the world knows about the Philippines. I speak with thick Aussie accent, I am 183cm tall, with very fair skin & grey-blue eyes. But I trace my roots back in the Phils. There are even players in 🇮🇪🇳🇿🇺🇸 who are also half-half. Oh by the way, I forgot to mention, I speak English & Filipino, got dual language. That alone I reckon is great, coz most of my childhood mates back in Melbourne would only speak English, that’s it. I am thankful I have a second language and not just English. It makes me flexible, especially when I’m back in the 🇵🇭.

Half-Filipino and half-other nationality. And for ur info, most of them are not actually of American descent. They just happend to live and work there. Bcoz one of their parents is either a Mexican, Canadian, Polish, Norwegian, French and Aussie. And why make a fuzz out of it? Even super strong teams like USA & France have foreign breed players in their line ups. USA has half-European breed players. France has half-African breed players. So why can't Philippines have foreign breed Filipinos in their line up? Why feel bitter about it? As long as they have Filipino blood and Philippine passport, they can represent our country. First off is since I'm a "halfie" myself both of Filipino and Black American descent and yes I do have an upclose and personal understanding of the culture of the Philippines as my mother was Visayan from the Cebu area. Item#1 ; when the Spanish were ousted from the Philippines the American military took its opportunity to move in on the country. One of the points brought up was but the American born soccer players of Philippine descent although they may be at least half-Filipina but they can't speak The Language" . There are at least 200 dialects just in the Visayas alone. And not known to most even Filipino nationals is the reason while it's not something that's a given that someone of another culture has a 80% chance of speaking their mother tongue say as if one is Chinese or Chinese-American it's not like the Americans came into China and disallowed say Cantonese or Sezchuan to be spoken IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY broadly speaking now as it had happened in the Philippines. Their are many instances where I had noted that here in America the Fil-Am as we are collectively referred to as are mainly not proficient or can even understand the language or even any dialect of the Philippines because of what the Americans had perpetrated in the early 20th century in regards to that generation of Filipinos. None of my siblings have a clue of the dialect or language as we were not availed of that part of the culture because of the aforementioned suffered upon the earlier generation. Second is the surreptitious mentioning of the fact that these Fil-Ams were of mainly Black American mixture. I guess that none of the panel realizes the fact that the only true Filipino is a Black one. The Aboriginal peoples of all S.E.Asia are Black. Chinas' recurrent dynasties had changed that landscape before the Spanish colonial period added its' mark specifically in the Philippines. Anybody heard of a Filipino national being of Chinese Meztiso descent😮? Same as a Spanish Meztiso. Word has it the new category is "American Meztiso " for the proliferation of the Filipinas marrying and having children by "Americans" of European descent. As it's known that it certainly doesn't hurt to lighten up the skin tone to perpetuate a certain level of upward mobility one should realize right? We have the Aboriginal Black in our familys bloodline and you wouldn't know this but during the American occupation the American people referred to Filipinos as the ni**ers of Asia and treated them of that period as such. And there you have it in a nutshell about Philippine history and culture. These ladies must have talent for if it were otherwise we wouldn't be seeing them out on the field for one reason or another.

It's the Internationalism and immigration of the world now that is making this a issue to address or talk about. There are more mix race and immigration now, so there is a increase in half races or raised in one country but immigrated from another. Thus making this interesting issues/topic that was never a problem before. Especially the Philippine where a large number leave the country for work or marriage or just to immigrate and live somewhere else. It just increases the number of half or heritage Filipinos. Like we always say "Filipinos are everywhere". And alot of overseas Filipinos marry outside their race or culture. (I consider my wife to have done that, she married an American and I am to a large degree Ameircanized ) Background, I am filipino-american(full blooded though both parents and ancestry full filipino). My wife is Filipino, immigrated here when 4 year back when she was 30.

It's very much an individual choice if the opportunity arises.

People need to understand that the greatest export of the Philippines is its workforce, unfortunately. So us having a lot of kababayan who are half-pinoy is a reality. If they want to play for our country and represent our flag then they are Filipino. Heck, we even adopted Sandara Park as a Filipino because she became famous here before 2NE1 even exploded in Asia and the World. These Women are representing us full-heartedly and I can even argue that Coach Stanjic should be made an honorary Filipino like Sandara Park.

The FIFA World Cup reflects how much money that country can dedicate to women's sports. This is why the US is so dominant presently. There is a whole infrastructure for women's soccer in the US with real money behind it. The Philippines can't afford to do that yet, so having biracial players is a half step to gain interest in the sport so the infrastructure can hopefully be built. One sport I would love to see the Filipinos dominate is Swimming. They are an island nation so Swimming, and Surfing should really get some love from their government since they have so many beaches. The soccer thing was also awesome I am happy for my fellow Pinoy who represent for the women team. As a Black person of Pinoy descent, it's nice to see once again the multicultural nature of the Philippines on the world stage.

agree with you guys.... Requirements to play for National Team - In simple terms, according to FIFA rules, you may play for: the country you were born in; or. if your grandparent was born in a given country, you are eligible to play for that country; or. if you are married to a citizen of another country, you may play for that country. Why does FIFA allow countries, like Belgium and France ... Jul 3, 2018 - Countries like Belgium and France are more diverse because of their history with colonization, and therefore, there are several French people who are mixed-race therefore allowed by the INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION - FIFA.

In the Philippines, by law, your citizenship is determined by blood. So if you have a Filipino parent, then you are considered Filipino. I suppose that you don't know of the real reason for this? First off I’m Filipino-American with a heavy dose of Aeta heritage (Black Aboriginal) as my father was Black American. What a majority of the world doesn't know is that the only pure blood Filipino is a Black Aboriginal as everyone else is mainly of Spanish Meztiso or Chinese Meztiso heritage. Racist views are pretty common there as a lighter skin person will be treated MUCH better than a darker person. Hence skin bleaching products as being extremely popular and expensive they are truly the backbone of commerce there.

Cultural Anthropology was my course of study many years and counting. I've never totally bought into the Out of Africa theory as all Black Peoples DO NOT LOOK ALIKE contrary to popular belief. Yes, some of MY PEOPLE may look SIMILAR in some characteristics to some Oceania peoples but my take on that is the Out-of-Taiwan theorem would take precedent over the Out of Africa in that regard. The Aeta were originally the coastal culture fishing, gathering shellfish and such, hunters of the small animals. Contrarily again we are from ALL OVER S.E ASIA not just one small area of the Philippines as what's ignorantly bandied about from even the mouths of some Filipinos that westerners will swallow as absolute fact and why wouldn't they? The ignorance of "Asian Americans," is significant. Ask the 100 million Filipinos back in the Philippines if they care if she's half "black," or half "American." I guess you Asians in American really love to label the f*** out of yourselves. This is happening with all teams of all sports. I'm from America, but my mother is Puerto Rican. If I was an athlete, I wouldn't dare represent the red, white, and poo. That's a stain in humanity.

Yeah it's true..You guys are rights. This is a jumpstart for the soccer here in our country to be recognized by the younger generations in order for us to have a full blooded player who can compete in the world cup. I don't see anything wrong about having fil-am player for as long as they will represent our country wit heart. I am pretty most of us filipinos doesnt even know the rules and regulations of football this is because we are exposed to the football program.

These are all just sentiments of those that cannot accept defeats. Sourgraping. What happen if the Filipino women team didn't win? Probably it's going to be a totally different story. Probably they will say, "hey look at this team. They are all of Filipino and foreign descent but we still beat them". If FIFA is okay with it, who are we to question it. And by the way, the ball is round. It will never take sides. If you lose, maybe you didn't train hard enough. You're not being competitive enough. If you cannot stand it, just do it as well.

Traditionally, during my time at least, the game of soccer was mostly leaned/played by kids in upper-middle class to upper-class families, but since they're moneyed, few if any go to national or professional teams. Btw great take on the topic of the partially-Filipino-blooded players & soccer program.

This is my personal hot take but when I look at, as the Fung Bros would say, the "micro" in American sports teams I'm totally fine with these ladies playing for the Philippines. In my opinion, if you're cool with people not from California let alone LA playing on the Lakers or you're cool with people from any other state playing on the Seahawks you should be cool with this story. Again, just my opinion but it's the same thing but brought to the "macro" or world scale.

Btw, alots PINOYS don’t know there are amounts of Pinoys have mix Chinese blood Since Chinese merchants trading around Southeast Asia very soon at 14th century. But in 15-16th century alots Chinese merchants start build their WAREHOUSE in lands so it easy for them when they’re buy stuff from locals then brings on ship to sold back in China & brings China products to sold for locals merchants. Oldest Chinatown in Manila was build around 1570. Chinese bussiness owners brings their servants & Chinese slaves & Chinese sailors. These Chinese servants & sailors is married with local Pinoys. And there are Chinese merchants married with rich daughter locals daughter to push for bussiness & relationships. That’s why nowadays there are amounts percentage of Pinoys have Chinese blood. I know couple Pinoys in 2008, they’re Pinoys with some Chinese blood. Even his parents is both Pinoys. It all linked to the family trees, because his great-great grandparents ancestors is Chinese merchants settle down living in Manila around 1590-1600. That’s why in latest family tree is not married with Chinese, but they still have Chinese blood in them. My friends have 30% Chinese blood. While his grandparents & parents is Pinoys. But because of ancient great-great grandparents is Chinese, though generations theyre married to Pinays so its make their next-next generation is mix race. Their ancient from Southern China. These Chinese merchants also settle down life while they’re trade with Malay & Thailand as well. That’s why I’m not surprised if alots Pinoys have mix blood with Spanish, Chinese, American. Because of colonial & trades, its history & it be one parts of Philippines history.

At least these players have filipino blood in them. Look at other countries for example qatar, they literally buy athletes from ither countries like their track and field team is consisted of africans, their volleyball players are either africans or europeans, etc and no qatari blood at all.

I’m all for these ladies representing their ancestry or one of their parents origin of country. Look at France both the men and the women. Good portion are foreign origin, foreign born or born in France and raised there but they’re French subjects and play for France. As far as the not speaking Tagalog not every Filipino even raised in the Philippines speaks it and speak another dialect as their primary language. As far as the Philippine team football isn’t a major sport there where they have home bred academies or lack there of and I hope that these ladies change that.

Also, a lot of Filipino doesn't even speak Tagalog. Maybe what they mean is FILIPINO LANGUAGE. Tagalog is a different language that is concentrated in Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon.

Simple question. For the ones born as half and half.. If they cant represent one half of their heritage.. That means that they cant also represent the other half.. So that means that they cant even participate to any of these events?

Anything negative about any Philippine representative to any international field whether it be beauty contestants, sportsmen, singers, etc - usually are started and perpetrated by their fellow countrymen. The rest of the world read or hear of it, and they repeat it till it becomes the only talking point. When the Philippine representative loses, their countrymen say it's racism or "cooking shows." Even when they win, they still have their own naysayers who won't stop attacking loudly like now. The first negative after the women's win was from Filipinos not happy because they aren't pure Filipinos!!!!!!!!! The ones who lost. of course, picked it up and ran with it. New Zealand and others know that countries do import players for international tournaments. They never would have complained if the ignorant comments were never made.

Indeed, I've seen fellow Filipinos who were saying "but their not pure Filipinos" on twitter alone but most of those are not even real accounts. Those were the remnants of the paid trolls. These paid trolls were paid in the first place to create chaos in a Country. Only low headed individual will believe this issue that Filipinos were the first to say "pero hindi naman sila pure Filipino". True Filipinos will always support fellow Filipinos kahit ano pa kaliit ang dugong Pinoy nyan. Sa mga nadala sa issue nah sinispread ng mga paid trolls, you better check your "makabayan" virtue for our country and countrymen, its probably you who have deeper issues that you need to address first .

Yup, Filipinos are biologically disadvantaged to play basketball. With football/soccer, however, height is not so important. It's important for the corner kicks and headers but that's about it. Filipinos should stop dreaming about basketball and playing in the NBA. Soccer makes more sense for us short people.
