I would if i were you and played that style of music. I would play an amp of different brand names. Not a put down at all, dont get me wrong. When i was young I played your style on Marshalls and Peavey's. Since now I'm older than dirt i play old country, Merle Haggard, Walon and George Jones, i find i absolutely love the Princeton sound for that. Clean with a compressor, slap back delay and a little boost its awesome. Thank you for posting this video and continue your talent this world needs all styles of music to keep on turning.

I have dipped my toe in electronic guitars: a Gretsch Jet with something wrong with the low E and A pickups and Taylor T5z. The Jet was too long in transit to return. It was never play tested by Gretsch (not checked) and never opened by the shop. The box came torn almost in half, a story for another day. I picked up a Boss Katana Mini table top for practice. It does okay for the practice room and trying out features. I have a Loudbox for acoustics. Not sure where to go with the electric guitars. I have an Iris OGe with a P-90. So what might you suggest?

The Tone Master amps have gotten very close to tube tones while incorporating modern electronic features which as you said make them more versatile, especially for recording. For me there's still something more organic, more alive, about using a true tube amp for home play.

These sounds GREAT not gonna lie. Is it a "real Princeton"? No. Can it squish and swell and bloom like a real tube amp? Nah. But damn son, if you just need something to go straight in to front of house/PA you can't go too wrong. Mixed and post-processed it sounds no worse than any deck from the 70's or 80's (or every Foo Fighters album lol). Its great for recording too. As in accessible recording straight in to a DAW for any enthusiasts budget. No expensive mics needed. No ISO cabs. No mic bleed. No hassle. Just 1 XLR cable. If I had one of these as a kid in the 90's I would 100% have achieved more musically. As for longevity, sure, it being SMD represents a challenge to most of us old solder sniffers but the kids today know how to use an air gun meights. Don't panic Mr Mainwaring.

I'd be curious to hear a comparison between the UA Dream '65 and the Tone Master Princeton. If we're going digital and we're going economical, what's the best option?
@mooseymoose
@mooseymoose Жыл бұрын
You still need power amplification with a Dream65, I had one and sold it as there was a weird digital resonance on notes that were held for a long time. Not a perfect replica as they claim, I have played loads of vintage Deluxe amps and none had the aliasing that was in the pedal. I feel like the Quilter Superblock US is great and more versatile, though the reverb is somewhat lacking. I have reverb pedals though, so not an issue for me.

If u r worried about ur tube amp failing, u need to have it serviced cause it should be very reliable! With fresh caps and tubes, a vintage amp should last another 30 years! I have had several tube amps that still have original tubes and everything in them, and they still work perfectly! If u don't use it, then often u may need to spray pots, but that happens on tube amp, transistor, and modeling amps cause it's all cause by a dirty wiper and trace!

I’ve tried the tone master Deluxe reverb and really couldn’t get a good tone of it. There was the tube version right next to it. I plugged into that and right away got a great tone. There was also a blues player who used one in my old home town and I couldn’t understand why his tone master Dlx sounded so terrible. Right now I have a pro Jr. ,Blues Jr, Excelsior Dlx and a supersonic 22. Love them all. And I’ve jammed in a band with all of them. The one outlier amp that I have is a katana 100 combo. I can get a great tone out of that in a band setting which shocked me when I jammed it in a band setting about a year ago. But that tone master ? I will be nice and say ,not a fan of.

If you live in a small apartment, even a 12 watt tube amplifier will be way too loud. Plus, the fact that you have DI out and a mute mode means you can have completely silent recording, also a godsend in many circumstances.

Good video.........Question: Fender has the Mustang series that does digital modeling of Princtons, Deluxe's etc.........why would this amp sound more realistic than the Mustang's do......which I think does a great job.
@neilkorsgaard
@neilkorsgaard 26 күн бұрын
I think that, with the Tonemaster line, they have put all of the research and processing power into one type of amp sound and two effects, rather than dividing that power between 50 (or 150) separate amps and effects. Thee are professional grade. And come with the price tag.
@jimdep6542
@jimdep6542 26 күн бұрын
@@neilkorsgaard That's a valid point. I think Fender did about 14 amps with the Mustang series.......and a lot of effects . About 10 years ago, there were different KZfaq amp reviewers ( some were credible) that put had the Mustang amp simulations and the real amps side by side for comparison, asking people to guess which was the real amp. Many thought the Mustangs were, and some, like Shane from " In the Blues" on KZfaq said it was hard to tell the difference even being in the same room and playing through them. Then in just a few years, Fender starts pushing the Tone masters, with a much bigger price tag. So.....yes, I'm skeptical, especially since Fender pulled their FUSE software for the Mustangs, for no other reason then to sell new amps.

I agree that it's too expensive for a digital version of a single amplifier, considering that a Boss Katana 50 MK2 offers so much more for around $270. With that said, I also believe the tube version should cost way less than it does. After all, it's just a single channel amp with reverb (no effects loop or headphone jack either).

Agreed. I’ve also noticed these are listed in the “tube amp” section on retailer sites. My theory is to justify cost bc when you set it next to other solid state amps the up charge is clear. I used to buy the tube Princetons new for $900 all day long. This was not even 10 years ago. Somehow the tonemaster has justified the $500 price hike on the tube versions 🤔 Pretty sure we’re just getting taken advantage of.

I think the whole Tone Master series might be pointless. The Mustang GTX series probably has much the same modelling algorithms for Blackface stuff et cetera, but also has models for Brit and high gain amps et cetera, plus more effects. The GTX is much cheaper, but I do not know if it does as good a job amplifying those models through the speakers. Maybe near enough to be a more attractive and versatile modelling amp. PS. I just play at home these days. I have amps and a Freyette Power Station for running IRs in DAW, but I hardly use that stuff. Using plugin amps in DAW does almost as good a job as a real amp. Can't blow up plugins either (I get nervous thrashing amps into reactive loads -- I have blown up a few amps over the years, including my brand new Marshall 1959RR and being offered a refund due to the damage being so bad)

@@voxpathfinder15r No worries 🙂👍👌 The great irony is that analog solid-state amps are now praised, but back in the day, they were universally despised as being cold, harsh & sterile. Even though I have a tube amp (and plan to build a few more 😋), I've always had an open mind towards solid-state amps, despite the fact that my first amp was a DIY solid-state that only had a dull clean tone. @@voxpathfinder15r Yes, it's also a pity that many solid-state amps were deliberately crippled (e.g. with small crappy speakers) so as not to compete with tube amps.
