From what I was told by the WeBoost rep at Overland Expo West (2022), it will boost a signal. However, it can not make something out of nothing. Meaning it has to have some kind of signal to boost. If there is no signal, then there is nothing to boost. Awesome video. Found your your channel by looking Cherokee XJ's. I just acquired a 2000 XJ Sport this month. So I am researching what I can find related to XJ's. I am physically, psychologically, and financially limited with what and when I can do things. I not looking to make a rock crawler. However, I do want to be able to take light to moderate trails. Right now I am working on the small things which I can do and have money for those items. My first major upgrade I will be doing is installing sound deadening through out the vehicle. Since I have to replace the heater core, that means pulling the dash. So, I might as well pull it out completely, replace the evaporator core as well and add the dampener material. Since I will have the carpet out, might as well get it cleaned up. It is not in bad shape, just smells. I guess it was from a leaking heater core. Also, got the headliner to replace like most over other XJ. I creating a "Want" & "Needs" to-do lists. Keep the videos rolling. I'll be watching for inspiration for mu XJ. Thank you for sharing and posting.

Yes the Weboost doesn't create the signal it just amplifies it. I assume the signal in the area I was in is just to weak for cellphones to capture. But the Weboost antenna is strong enough to get into it. No matter what magic it does it had myself and locals surprised that we had signal to use our phones. Thanks for watching and have fun with your rig build!

It's the interior antenna you gotta worry about mixing up your DNA not the recieve one =]. On that note I forgot that the signal proximity is so small. It makes perfect sense but I guess I imagined being able to use it around camp and not just in/immediately near the vehicle. To note on that note lol something you didn't touch on was power draw. Obv this wasn't meant to be super techy but sounded like you were interested in using this while you were in your tent. Is it realistic to run it while you're in there without significant power storage modifications? I'm assuming if it's heating up as much as you say (heat being wasted energy) then I assume that answer would be no. Pretty cool tho that it worked for you especially in a spot where you've suffered before. I use gps communicators when in the back country and it clips on my backpack and bluetooth to my phone. UX is a bit clunky so being able to use you're phone as you normally do seems like a big plus too. Subscription plans make it probably a similar cost when you add in the device itself too. I've seen these things on rigs all over town usually paired with the rotopax and maxtrax. As an XJ owner I usually subscribe to being part of the jeep/overlanding counter culture going against the grain and avoiding these items that appear more like status symbols than utilitarian, but ultimately I'm a hopeless capitalist and I've always been curious. Thanks!

Either way I'm sure my guts are being microwaved by something 🤣 as for power draw I didn't do a full test of it in that prospective. I ran it when I needed it off my main power setup in rear of jeep that uses the jeeps battery. If for some reason I needed it overnight I would just plug it into the Jackery and let the solar recharge that the next day. My goal with the Weboost is just to use it when needed.
