I've owned my Land Rover LR4 since 2014 and have made a lot of changes and improvements, but the rig continues to impress me. I have owned two P38s before, which was a constant problem.

Thanks for the video. I will be buying a Disco 3 or 4 soon and plan to use it for long trips (6 weeks and longer here in Africa twice a year). I just subscribed and look forward ti seeing more of what you have done with your rig.😊😊

I really liked your video. Especially since I’ve done near identical modifications to my 2012 LR4 HSE. Tactical 4x4 bumper and rock sliders. The primary difference, though, I had my bumper and rock sliders coated with Line-X. I also have you exact tire and wheel set up. Additionally, I took step of adding a 2.5 inch lift via Johnson Rods. I have 180,000 miles on my rig. I think you’re right about the timing chain. Changing the oil on a regular basis is key to keeping the chain in good order. My LR4 has been reliable rig. Of course, I follow the 10K service intervals like religion.

Thank you. It sounds like we have a very similar setup - I really love the rig. Line-X is an excellent option - my powder coating has held up well, but being in San Diego, it's not surprising. I'm keeping an eye on the timing chain and regular oil changes. So far, there are no codes, and everything seems good when I check the tension from the top of the engine. I appreciate you stopping by!

I found very little content in this video for reasons why anyone would want to purchase a LR4. He goes on about all the mods he has done. Not much about why you either want to or dont want for reasons to purchase the LR4.

I guess considering any brand purchase is does it make you happy? Land Rovers have a lot to love about them but are certainly not the most reliable or inexpensive to fix. If this bothers you then I would recommend a Toyota or Lexus. If you want a hard core rock crawler a Jeep and modern day Defender style of vehicle the INEOS. It’s great that we have many choices for a rig that excites us.

thanks for such a positive video, now I feel like I should dive mine with no fear and just keep money aside just in case.

That’s what I do, they are not inexpensive to keep on the road - figure it’s a lot less than buying a new one! Enjoy!

Interested in the comment about the cross over pipe failure. Did you proactively have this changed? I hear it's common to change it if/when the water pump is changed. I'm about to do my timing changes so might well do them water pump and crossover a the same time.

Yes I had them done proactively since my understanding is your temperature gauge won’t show in time. I understand there is a shop in LA that does nothing but timing chains and engine rebuilds. Trying to find out more about them. Definitely a good time to do water pump. There are aftermarket aluminum cross over pipes available, but I’ve heard mixed reviews. Let me know how it goes.

Love the video! I have a 2012 LR4 with 90K miles, and just recently changed the front air suspensions but other than that it has been good to me. I have the steelies from Lucky8 but planning to change to compomotive. I am also currently running with a 3” lift in the front and 2.5” in rear - did you have to change the lift rod as well or are you running stock?

I just run stock height - sometimes I wish I had more clearance for sure!

I’m in Point Loma and have a 2016 lr4 after my Disco2 gave up the ghost engine wise twice so it was time to change up. Would love to see your LR4 in person to give me ideas as I’m trying to sort the roof rack and winch ideas. Not sure if that’s possible. Ed

Hello Jeff, Thanks for sharing this video it's really helpful. I'm thinking of buying the LR4 V6 2015 is it good to buy if this SUV went through below replacements at 65K miles. Now it's at 98K miles I don't see much service done in the last 30K miles. Please advise Coolant bypass pipe/hose replaced Spark plug tubes/seals replaced Water pump gasket replaced Thermostat replaced Exhaust manifold gasket replaced Engine timing/front cover replaced Cylinder head gasket(s) replaced Engine oil filter adapter gasket replaced Valve cover gasket(s) replaced Fuel injection rail seals replaced Timing belt tensioner/idler replaced

I would really recommend finding a reliable Land Rover mechanic in your area and have them go through the rig thoroughly. Great news of the cross over pipes have been replaced. Are you able to speak to the shop that did the repairs to make sure the engine didn’t overheat since some of the repairs could point to that. Also regular oil changes are critical at between 4 and 5k miles, of they haven’t serviced regularly I would skip it. Good luck and have it looked at before buying. I just had a friend of mine that bought a similar age and mileage with a mechanics review and ended up with some expensive repairs.

Look cool, but timing chains and air suspension and so many things can really add up. I’d be afraid to buy one-good luck 🍀 to you.

Completely understand they are not for everyone. It’s important to buy a rig that you have confidence in for sure.

I love mine it does not matter what car you buy, anything with tits or wheels will give you problems 😂in my view it’s the best so practical could be a van or people carrier or off road legend and it looks awesome not so keen on the new shape
