Once again a great video! I had totally forgotten the Camlink came with that little extension cable. Apparently I didn't need it on my last computer but I just plugged it into my new computer and IT IS SO MUCH BETTER!

So I ordered a Cam Link to compare with my existing 20$ capture Card. And the difference is actually not that big. Especially if you tweak the picture later. I learned that the Chepo--Cam-Link-Rip-Off-Picture is somewhat more yellowish and has small problems with gradients, but for beginning to stream or just to add the powerpoint to your setup it should be enough. Especially for adding powerpoint, since there is no natural color reference as in faces. You can see a difference if you put the pictures side by side. Conclusion in my case: No, my audience will not see a difference and it does not matter for them. I will keep it though because I see the difference and to reward me for homing in on 100 Subs (small channel I know, but it is home...). I started my channel inspired by LEDA in April, but that is another story...

No matter what I’ve tried mine pauses after a few seconds if I run it through a Thunderbolt/USB 4 dock. Yup the brand new do anything expensive ones. I have to have it plugged directly into my M1 Air to get it to work.

Can I use Elgato Camlink 4k device to watch live TV by connecting to HD SetTopBox (non HDCP). Presently using a cheap generic video capture usb device and there is huge latency and gets heated up very quickly.

Super annoying problem. I have 3x A7 iii cameras. I have a camlink capture card. I have a fast Samsung S20. Yet I can't seem to find software that actually works and lets me live stream my mirrorless cam output via my smartphone. This should be possible! Am I missing something?

So the additional cable that comes with the Elgato CamLink 4K did not save it from overheating, my camlink 4k as of this morning is not giving me any signal, never had an issue with this before so this "additional cable" does not save it from overheating. Unfortunately i will have to pick up a new one as i am using it for my Sony A6000. Great Video still, explaination superb.

You wouldn't need a Cam Link 4k for that set up unless you were also looking to bring another computer, or a DLSR-type camera into your production.

Does the CamLink actually save your recorded videos straight from you DSLR to your computer without having to remove the memory card and putting it in a seperate reader? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

No, the capture card makes the video accessible to the computer - it does not store anything. YES! You definitely need to get a POWERED USB dock or hub if you're going to use any power-hungry USB devices.

Great video! Any update in regards to freezing issues with the new M1 Pro and Max Chips? Just upgraded to the Macbook Pro with M1 Pro Chip and Cam Link 4k no longer works but constantly freezes. Works fine on old macbook pro but not on M1 Pro Chipset. Have you seen this issue with the Cam Link 4k?

@@LiveStreamingPros Thank you so much. I had the Cam Link 4k plugged into a CalDigit Thunderbolt Hub, which apparently is not compatible. I plugged the Cam Link 4k straight into the M1 with a dongle and it worked! Thanks again.

Id recommend against it i have the Camlink 4k and it gets so hot after about 20 mins it start melted the clip I had it hanging off of. Contacted Elgato no response, tweeted them, nothing, tried to return the cam link, item was mailed back with a slip saying the product functions properly which means they didn't actually even test it for any reasonable length of time and just plopped it back in its box and mailed it back.

Oooh, that doesn't sound right at all! Wondering if you got a bad unit or something is wrong with the power delivery. To melt a clip means that it would have to be too hot to even touch. Sorry you had a bad experience with yours.

It's all about what your needs are...the Can Link 4K is a capture card - it does one job and it very easy to use; the Atem does a bit more and so is more complex to learn. 🤷♀️

I am only using Cam Link for my You tube videos so that I can see my self without needing to use my small flip out screen on my camera. Does it really need to be connected/downloaded to my primary computer or can I just use it with a monitor only? Can I just plug into a monitor with the HDMI cable and Cam link for the purpose of viewing only? Thanks!

Hello! Not sure what you mean here...the purpose of the device is to bring the video feed from the camera into the streaming/recording software you are using to get you the highest quality possible.

My Camlink flashed white and then turned off. I have a M1 Max MacBook Pro 16inch from 2021. The computer recognizes the CamLink, but there Is no signal from my Sony a73. Thinking of returning... any thoughts or recommendations?

I'm using my A7 III Sony with a 20$ capture device because there is no usb-c on it and Canon R6 with usb-c on a PC and a mac and there is no difference on stream because the size of the box where my webcam is too small to see any difference even in an zoom call. With recent camera it's really not worth the 100$ for that, watch videos where the youtuber actually show you the result ! If you need more than 2 cameras, buy a pci express capture card because your mother board won't handle them perfectly on usb 3.0 or usb 3.1. I prefer to invest in a external capture card for PS5 streaming or dual streaming Gaming setup when you have a 2K and 144hz monitor.

Hello! The Cam Link 4k doesn't record, it translates the video feed so that your computer can handle it. You'll need a tool like Ecamm (Mac), vMix (PC), Streamyard, Restream, etc. to handle the streaming or recording part of the process for you. Hope this helps! 👍
