Hello everyone welcome back to a new video. Today we will be talking about the controversial topic of wing clipping. Theres lots of information going around including from vets. The short answer is yes wing clipping is abuse and no its not okay unless for a medical reason. Theres so many negative results of clipping a parrots wings and even though it doesn’t hurt them to do it doesn’t mean it isn’t disabling and abusive. I hope you guys can listen to this video and rethink your choice.

Thank you so much for making this video! The bird stores usually push bird owners to clip the wings and beak and try to convince owners it's for the well being of the bird. Unfortunately a lot of bird owners trust them thinking they care but in reality it's all about money. We need to spread the word to save the birds from abuse and hopefully this practice becomes illegal in the U.S. Thank you again for trying to educate bird owners and we'll share this video with as many people as possible.

Pet shops clip birds and their foods are crap too. Lots of breeders also clip and feed them crap from the pet shops…I rescued two baby birds sadly clipped and I can’t wait for their flight feathers to grow back. One of them is so frightened. I can’t even get close so I let him be. I was told to forcefully keep him in my hand til he gives up for taming purposes…wtf

@@PascaleStLaurent Unfortunately some people give wrong advise based on what they read on some Internet website and a lot of the information on the Internet is wrong. If you don't mind me asking what type of food is best for Sun Conure? I usually feed them fresh pallets and zupreem and they love it. I also try to give them fresh fruits but they don't eat it all the time. They also love eating walnuts and almonds.

Zupreem has a lot of sugar so if possible tops and harrison are the best pellets but i understand it can be tough switching conures over because they like making soups with their pellets 😂 Fresh vegetable chop and fruits are great! Some nuts like walnuts, almonds, pistachios as treats are a good addition too ☺️

My African Grey and I grew up and were raised together from a young age and one of my fondest memories with him is seeing him fly towards me for the first time, down a hallway, with these big black excited eyes as he came towards me. He was kind of bobbing in the air on his first flight - it was adorable. I'm not someone who tears up easily in general, but I easily do when I recall that memory. Seeing how happy and excited he was to fly like that imprinted the feeling that every bird should be able to use their gift of flight, and I can't help but feel remorse for those who lose it. Not to mention, I love the feeling of having that same bird, now grown up, fly after and go on my shoulder every day. So yeah, thanks to those experiences and my beliefs that stem from them, anyone would be hard pressed to really convince me wing clipping is ever justifiable or good.

Thank you for this video. I watched this right after I had my two brand new (just picked up today) GCC’s fly around my whole house until they were tired and let me help them into their cage. My first bird is a female ecelectus who was found outside with ALL her feathers clipped. Her tail, ALL her flight, even her belly. It’s been a year and she still has 4-5 flight feathers that haven’t molted yet but she can now fly decently well. Then I heard of two 10-12 yr old green cheeks that were used for breeding their whole life and are not tame so I agreed to work with them. I was asked if they should re clip so I can handle easier when I got home and I said ABSOLUTELY NOT! As I opened their travel cage near the big cage I expected them to spook and they did. I calmly told them I won’t force them to step up they can do as they please. They flew all around terrified and after a few minutes they were both tired and stepped on my hand to be saved. The boy nipped but not even enough to draw blood and the girl didn’t even use her beak. It’s gonna be a long road for them but Unclipped they can get away from scary stuff!!!

Oh my goodness thats so sad to hear about to Gcc and eclectus 😭 thank you for rescuing and working on rehabilitating them. Its crazy how people can do that and feel nothing! There should be a law to do a background check and interview before adopting or buying and some sort of education class. Im so happy those birdies are in your hands now 🥹

When i rescued my quaker she hadnt flown for 4y, no wings, never out of the cage and she regrew those wings and with practice she learnt to fly again and has all the freedom in the world. Her mood is happy, her feathers are healthy. Your quaker is gonna see color in their world for sure!

I suffered from this a lot. Unfortunately in my country we dont have this law, and most of the vets or dr. Dont really care about your pet bird, they would clip it and say its normal it will grow again. One stupid dr. Said its like clipping nails it will grow again and he laughed when i was worried about their mental state... really messed up. I remember my two pet got clipped by it previous owner and it was so sad to see them struggling around the environment. I had to protect them and wait until their wings grew back again. My male quaker lost a few toes cuz of his older owner or was he born like that? Im not really sure. Until this day its been 6 years and he's still a bit scared from other humans other than me. As for the female... god... SHE A MANACE 😹 literally bullyed me today by pulling my hair and waiting for me to scream 😭

U know i am still arguing someone in cmnts of another video that says that it's for well being so that our bird will not " Run away " , i have been saying again and again that it's just excuses for not doing hard work and just living in their comfort by clipping so that the bird will not fly. I don't know why people don't want to understand that it was done by people of decades ago because they didn't have resources but now we have so many things that can keep our bird safe and healthy, even taking them outside is an option nowdays AND then they reply that they don't have that living condition that they can by these things, SO I JUST TOLD THEM THAT U SHOULDN'T GET A BIRD OR ANY OTHER PET IF YOUR LIVING CONDITIONS ARE NOT GOOD AND IF U CAN'T PROVIDE YOUR PET A GOOD LIFE I mean isn't is one of the best things that your bird comes to flying towards u ☺️

Its so horrible the excuses and they dont realize they are doing so much harm and trauma to the bird! I love when they fly to me when i call them i feel like a disney princess and so much bond and trust with them. Why have a bird if u dont want them to fly? Get a cat or dog

@@mimisbirdhouse yeah that's what i told them and u know what they told me " stop acting like you know how to take care of your bird " says the person who was excuseing because he/she let their bird out and a hawk killed the bird, poor bird, they were saying that's why they clip the wings. Here anyone can tell that this was their fault to let their bird outside in a area of hawks Even in my area their are hawks so i covered my balcony fully with a protective strong net so that my birds can get natural air and sunlight without getting harmed. But these people just don't want to understand a thing 😒

hey, new bird owner here. so i just got this bird 2 weeks ago and taught him how to step up. what do i do next? do i train him to leave the cage, should i bond with him more, what are some tricks I should teach him, and how long should i train him everyday? I've researched and not really came up with a clear answer. thank you so much!

I'm only a novice bird owner, but I've had someone make the argument to me that keeping birds in captivity isn't natural, so clipping them is just another unnatural thing that's ok along with all the other unnatural things, and it really upset me. I do know that, ideally, we would all keep our birds in massive aviaries, but to me there's a huge difference in keeping a bird in captivity and deliberately mutilating it for your own convenience. And I've met some people who recommend wing clipping birds that are being dominant or biting, and that's equally as awful to me, to take away their ability to fly to make them submissive and dependent is definitely abuse IMO. One of the great pleasures I've had in owning my quaker is seeing him doing laps of the living room and swooping in front of my face for the sheer joy of flying, I could never, ever take that away from him
@mimisbirdhouse
@mimisbirdhouse 4 ай бұрын
Oh my goodness yes ive heard that and its horrible! How dare people punish an exotic wild animal for just responding! People dont understand they are doing something wrong if the bird is biting. They arnt reading their body language. You cant train a bird the same way as a dog. Sure its not natural to have them captive but if you choose to have a non domesticated pet yours gonna have to make changes to your home and you to accommodate

There’s no reason to clip a bird’s wings,only excuses. A guy on Facebook told me there’s a right way to clip so birds just soar. 😂 Might as well just leave their wings alone. As mentioned previously, no reason just excuses.
@mimisbirdhouse
@mimisbirdhouse 4 ай бұрын
Ugh i hate it when they say they can soar, but they cant take flight! What if they fall to the floor, they cant get up! What if they get scared, they dont have correct control of flight and are more likely to crash and hurt themselves

@@mimisbirdhouse I wanted to apologize for being rude regarding your thoughts on birds breeding at home. Recently I caught my budgies whom Ive had for many years, engaging in "activities". Normally the females always keep the male off, but I suppose sometimes they get attracted to him and he does spend all day singing for them, and they kind of mate for like 30 seconds. I felt that it may have been forced, not forced as in r@pe, but I imagined that in the wild the female budgie probably wouldn't have wanted to mate with my male budgie. It doesn't take away their current possible attraction but still. I still think if two birbs are inseparable and want to be together which is more than just hormones, than they should. In the case of my budgies, I just felt the females may not have been entirely enthusiastic. Perhaps I'm just anthropomorphizing, but still.
