I've noticed the difference in execution between players has been closer in the drum edition, as opposed to the guitar seasons

The first 15 seconds of Mike's 2nd Round pretty much sounded like a random Sepultura song. Vito's fast double kickwork of his 2nd Round is so brutal AF! My goodness, these Canadian drummers are on the next level!!!

I was gunning for Mike but Vito's second performance sold me.

i tried listening Vito's second solo with my eyes closed. i couldn't tell he had that little slip at the end. both of them had sick performances, specially at the second part.

When I saw Mike play I was convinced he'd win the entire thing to be honest. It doesn't get any more 'Shredder of Metal' than his two solos.

So now all six drummers have been A+ talents. Very impressive. None of them suck so far.

Probably too early to call it, but I can see Vito taking this whole thing. The creativity, space, grooves... great stuff. These guys seem to all have amazing dexterity and speed, but he's got that extra little swag.

Wow - the quality of these musicians is just incredible. Two very strong drummers. Keep 'em coming.

Following the show every day with my daughter and we are waiting with anticipation for the next round! Amazing talent, amazing show, could take more than 10 mins of these.

That was so hard to judge, because they both have very different styles. But I agree with Vito, he has a sense of fun and creativity.

How humble is Chris Adler. Great guy.

This has been a really great season so far, and I feel that the production value and delivery of this season are fantastic. similar to how I felt though in the last two seasons, I wish each episode had a little bit more time to breathe. I think the episodes were maybe two or three minutes longer, it would make it feel a little bit more flush out. I'm not exactly sure how that would be handled due to the production and the circumstances around the filming of the show, but yes that's how I feel. an idea would be to potentially give blame a time in which to share his opinion, in a non-formal sense just to expand the episode a little, or show a little bit of the thought process between the two drummers as they take the advice from the judges. overall though I'm still consistently impressed by the production quality and how wonderfully produced these episodes are.

Both we're great in there own right. My only complaint about is this a battle of drum solo's ? Every drummer has his own drum language that what makes us unique. I'd go on but I'll leave it that. Still enjoyable competition ☺️

Vito is a virtuoso of his instrument, completely impressive but Mike's ability to play so well in front of your hero is epic...

Been a drummer for 20 years, not a metal drummer necessarily but I do appreciate the craft. Just found this program and will be watching all of the future and past eps.

I didn't like begin of solo by Vito. By then I loved it. Be creative is the main point to the judges. I love bass guitar. I hope there will be next year a bass edition.

Loved both performances! Canadian drummers are off the charts, great job everyone! I once again agree with the assessments - Mike has amazing timing and that Lombardo feel. Vito's creativity, even unconventional parts at times, were a breath of fresh air so far in this competition. I would be proud to be in a band with any of these guys, but my pick would be Vito, here.

I think the judges are forgetting the point of the contest. It’s called “Shredders of Metal.” Mike got robbed in my opinion. He was so fast and technical it was metal AF.

Hearing what Chris said to Mike is fucking inspiring. Proving that everyone should always be learning.. Vitos work was grooving and tastefull and still agressive. I'm really digging this series.

Thoughts: Round 1: Vito: As with Chris in Episode 2, I appreciate that the solo wasn't all tom fills, blast beats, and rapid fire sixteenth and thirty-second notes on the double pedal. When he first started, I got worried because he did that stick twirling thing. He had mentioned it so much in his intro video that I went, "oh, dear, it's gonna be nothing but a stick trick exhibition." But he proved me wrong the minute he quit flipping the sticks and started hitting them. I also enjoyed his little pattern between the china, toms, and snare with the china on the off beat. It reminded me a bit of (dare I say it) metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage. Great work, but there could have been just a touch more variety. Then again, I'm nitpicking severely. 9/10. Mike: Well, this guy wins the award for "most double kicks used in the competition so far." I don't mean that disparagingly, either, as a lot of his footwork was very well done. I especially enjoyed the little nod to classic speed, thrash, and groove with the little eighth note pattern and the bell work on the ride. He said Chris Adler was one of his big heroes, and I could definitely tell that from his work here. That being said, he relied on the toms just a little too much for my taste. Also, I wish that he would have dropped the double pedal a bit and worked with the single some. There've been excellent metal solos done that pay tribute to the one hammer as well as the deuce. All in all, though, it was fairly enjoyable. 7/10. Round 2: Mike: This was definitely better than his first solo. He switched it up a lot, as Chris Adler mentioned in his comments, and you can tell that he really took it to the drum set with a bit of a different mindset. He dropped his reliance on tom fills, and instead, created tom patterns that were incredibly enjoyable. I did like that he kept the nods to the speedier, thrashier side of metal. His footwork was outstanding, although I still find that he relies on double kick a bit too much. I love double pedals as much as the next guy, but even in metal, they still can be overdone. However, that being said, it was still way better than his first. 9/10. Vito: This was one of the coolest, most fluid solos I've ever seen, period (except for the blooper at the end, but hey, who says that inadvertent comedy can't play well into a solo?). He was ALL OVER the kit, and that was great to see. But even more than that, he drew even more into that metalcore-ish style from his first solo. He had this great sort-of alternating solo that went from pattern to fill to pattern with a fluidity and quiet confidence that really helps speak to his ability. I can't find anything I disliked about the solo. From footwork to patterns to fills, it was the best I've seen in this competition so far. 10/10. Overall: Mike: 16/20 Vito: 19/20 My winner: Vito Vito was fantastic. At first, I thought it was gonna be all show and no substance. But then he got into it and really impressed me with his playing, patterns, and footwork. I also commend him on being brave enough to use the single pedal for some of his work rather than just hammering away on the double kick. As for Mike, his technicality can't be denied. I also have to praise him for his nod to old school thrash and speed metal with the eighth note pattern in the first solo and the DragonForce-esque pattern in the second solo. His issue was that he simply did nothing but tom fills in the first solo and then overused the double pedal in the second. He's a great drummer, but he just needs to tone back on that, IMO. Hey, it's also the first time that the judges and I have agreed on a winner! Lol. Good luck to Vito in the next round!!

This was a tough one to pick, they were both amazing in their own right. It would be nice to see some women drummers as well, there's quite a few good ones out there (but maybe not many in Canada?). Very good show indeed, guys, I'm excited for the next episode!

Vito's playing clearly had more flavor and variety. Mike tried to play too safe and relied on athleticism rather than syncopation

Vito is just a precision monster. He has a very well rounded sound and style. And he can go from thrash to groove and traditional Metal seamlessly. Tough competition

“Neil Peart on steroids” is about the best compliment you can get as a drummer. Very impressed and excited to see where Vito goes from here.

After the first round I was thinking "dang, Mike is winning this one", but Vito seriously went for it on the second round and totally deserved the overall win. Both of these guys were great (honestly everyone so far has been great)! I'm a guitar player but I have to say I've been enjoying this drum edition the most out of all shredders of metal competitions

They were both great. I preferred Mike's tightness but I have to agree with the judges here, Vito was more creative and different. Good show

Chris is one of the most humble metal drummer...no, not only drummer, metal musician I know. Mike didn't win but I think, with a comment like that from one of his idol, he won't mind much

As a guitarist, I’m loooving the drum offs now. This is awesome.

At first I thought that Mike was going to be the technical master with complex time signatures and awesome groove. And Vito was just was the typical "metalhead" that plays drums. I was blown away with Vito's performance as the groove and creativity kicked in, totally underestimated him by the looks and the interview :D

Amazing drummers. Vito had a page from Peart’s solo in his second piece, otherwise very original to what they’ve seen on the show. Don’t know how you decide. These guys are other worldly
