I personally see her more as the embodiment of _all_ aspects of fertility, positive and negative - the Black Goat is Mother Nature in all of her cruel indifference. She doesn't care about _how_ things reproduce, she just wants things to reproduce. Every act of reproduction and fertility, from a mushroom spreading its spores to the tender indignities of a young couple making love, to the vile orgies her cult so often indulges in, are all equally pleasing in the Black Goat's sight. After all, as Sandy himself said in _Cthulhu Mythos For 5E_ , the Great Old Ones and Outer Gods are beyond good and evil, as they are mortal conceptions. But her servants are most certainly evil, since their ultimate objectives would involve the corruption or destruction of the world, the solar system, or even the universe, and would take a toll on untold numbers of lives. Therefore, the orgies where human mixes with beast and Mythos satyr and dark young can be viewed as wholly negative and evil.

Well, for what I know Quake was designed first to be a dark-fantasy medieval game, hence the knights and death knights, before the team decided to go straight to a cyber-futuristic theme. But as they were pretty geeky, they wanted some occult elements to be predominant, and so they chose to put a lovecraftian bestiary. Concerning the Shub-Niggurath in-game, apart from its name and the role of mother/leader of the invaders, no there's nothing more in common. I think in their minds, designers and creators considered Shub-Niggurath from Lovecraft mythos to be a perfect arch-antagonist with a mastermind aura able to birth monstrosities while being quite "passive" itself.

To add to the previous comment: according to Sandy himself, he gave name to many of the Quake monsters, and apparently at least a handful of them take their appearance from Lovecraftian writings. Something I've read somewhere is that Shub's meat-"tree" design used in Quake comes from some Lovecraftian story where her children are described looking like that, but not actually herself.

It's atheist propaganda that life is meaningless. Aliens are a myth, and man being unique says the Bible is right. "Space therefore aliens" is as irrational as "Rainbows therefore leprechauns." They just confuse correlation with causation citing brain scans, akin to seeing Super Mario move when the Nintendo controller moves. Does that mean that the controller is the player, or is the real player not really part of the system? Hellywood and the media and indoctrination centers (schools) promote materialism, but science never says nature is all that exists. @@sartarite I know. But I really don't picture her as being plant-like at all. I can't think of many times she's portrayed that way, unlike (for example) the Elder Things. Yes she has roots or her offspring do but there are animal life forms with roots.

Agreed. I'm actually surprised Sandy didn't mention Quake anywhere, but I guess it's because Shub faces a rather embarrassing end in it.

@@georgeoldsterd8994 Quake 1 is a legend, I love it with all my heart, just look at my face! However, it would be fair to say certain aspects of it suffered from that difficult development cycle. The boss encounters in particular were majorly lacking. Either just an intro to new enemy types "Bruiser Brothers" style & the few true bosses were one-trick pony gimmicks.

the most obvious answer is, the Fungi predate humankind. So the cult was here before us. And as I state in the video, the Fungi bringing the cult to us, is a logical conclusion by me.
