Using pex

That is a video that I need to make, but if you are just adding a bidet then this is what you need. Well, you need the one that is all 3/8. I think that one has one side 1/4 for an icemaker. As much as I hate to admit it, you are right. I should have been more zoomed in when installing it.

So you are saying that the valve itself has spun inside the PEX pipe? If that is so, then don't worry about it. Unless it has started leaking. I have spun many of PEX fittings and I can't think of one time that it started leaking.

@Vincent Guarino, thanks for your question. I don't know of another option, color wise. I understand not wanting blue or red coming through the floor. And actually if I was thinking better when I did this remodel I would have kept the blue and red in the floor/walls, and got a piece of white to come through. If white doesn't work, then what color are you thinking? Are you doing a remodel currently?

@@AroundTheHome1 Yes, I'm remodeling the whole master bathroom. Currently there's copper coming thru the floor with a rusty 3" brass nipple to a shut off. I suppose I can do something similar with a white piece of pex, brass coupling and a brass nipple to shut off.

@Vincent Guarino, if you want brass to come through the floor you can use a threaded adapter like this. www.lowes.com/pd/SharkBite-1-2-in-dia-Brass-PEX-Female-Adapter-Crimp-Fitting/1000182925 Then you could just use a brass nipple to the shut off. Though by doing so, it makes getting an escutcheon to look right and fit right harder. You would have to upsize the escutcheon to fit over the pex clamp. I guess you could keep all those fittings under the floor so only the brass nipple shows, but then you cut off access to all those fittings. Wait this would be better. If you set a cross member in-between the joists you could use this dogear fitting www.lowes.com/pd/SharkBite-1-2-in-dia-Brass-PEX-Drop-ear-Elbow-Crimp-Fitting/1000182981 That is another option. This is me thinking outload while I type. And another option, like I mention in this video if you don't have any extra pex coming through to give it a light pull to see if there is extra down there. You could strap it in a manner that you have extra pex under the floor. Then pull it up to set your shut off. After you have everything assembled then push it back down so that you can only see the shut off, and the clamp is sitting right on top of the escutcheon. I hope this helps and not confuses you.

It's actually really good. Don't know why you are thinking it is like cheap garden hose. I have used it for years with no problems. I have seen home freeze that actually have 4 types of pips in them. Copper, CPVC, Galvanized, and PEX. The PEX and galvanized were the ones that didn't need replacing. It is quick to install and if using the pinch ring system, very hard to mess up.

@@AroundTheHome1 Like I said, it looks crappy because there in nothing supporting the valves, like I said its like piping a house with garden hose, just flipping around. Does it help in freezing temps, sure, but its anything but a good professional installation. I'll use it, but I will transition to copper before I put service valves in

I don't remember if this was a Sharkbite brand or another brand. This is not a Sharkbite push style fitting. I don't know what comments that you are speaking of. Personally, I have had no problems with Sharkbite brand fittings.

So, should I assume that there is not enough to cut it off and install a new one. I hate when they don't leave you enough to do that at least one time. I don't like to suggest to cut the band, and pull out the old one to install a new one without cutting the PEX off clean. Two reasons, getting the band off will many times damage the PEX. You can save the fitting easy enough, but in this situation you are wanting to save the PEX. Then if you reuse the end of the PEX and somehow don't damage it at all, the fitting will most likely leak anyways. Either way is problematic. If you can't get enough PEX out to get a clean cut off, I might suggest to rebuild the shut off instead of replacing it. Here is a video of mine doing that. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jK-Ya6-amdu5dp8.html

@@AroundTheHome1 Thanks so much. I ended up buying a pex crimping tool and a small bag of copper rings, I was able to carefully score the old copper ring until I could separate it and remove it from the pex. I put the new valve on and new ring and crimped it and all is good so far!!

Parent Teacher Association? I don't know what you mean. Also, you need a clean piece of pipe to install the valve onto to avoid leaks. These valves should last more then 10 years, more like 15 so this is something that hopefully isn't an issue of running out of pipe.
