When Bob said someone going out of their way to label themselves EMPATH was a red flag, I had war flashbacks to Shane Dawson, the supposed empath who is exactly the opposite of that. And, in real life, people I've met who claim the label are also quite sus.

@JLsaves Definitions change. Homosexuality was considered a mental disability until recent. Feel free to drop the attitude and step back into your lane at any time. I’ll say it again; Its not a factor of being telepathic. Its a factor of being more clairvoyant when it comes to peoples emotions when they aren’t even trying to actively express them. Its not mind reading. Its constantly deep listening and visual analysis to be able to recognize differences in the way people talk and their facial expressions. The amount someone talks, the spacing between their sentences, how (not what) they add emphasis. How busy their eyes are when they are talking, what their hands are doing, ect. It’s like a movie with top of the line prosthetics and someone can see the lines, despite everyone else going “wow i thought it was their real face”. Thats not xray vision or whatever superpower. You’re just way more actively observant. The skill(not power)/term is just watered down by white girls that want to feel more interesting. Just like how they all claimed to be severely depressed and bisexual in middle school because a couple of their friends actually were and they want to seem relatable. That doesn’t make depression or bisexuality any less valid. It just makes it more annoying to shift through authenticity vs. not. It’s just that, again. Please, for the sake of humanity, don’t base your understanding on something off of the live laugh loves.

While I strongly identify as an empath, this insight from my therapist blew it wide open: “Are you ‘an empath’ or have you developed intricate coping skills from childhood trauma? Constantly needing to read emotional states in order to create your own safety by being able to anticipate everything and everyone’s energy around you?” Welp … shit 😒

Wellll, what if being Empathetic is something to be feared by your therapist and they wanted to Riock you? Sometimes I feel like they are so so about defending the position of science because it makes them feel out of control Just a theory. To me there's nothing wrong with feeling for and feeling what others feel. of course it does have to be a healthy distance . I have a teacher that said that I was an emotional sponge but I'm also a performer an actress a singer. We do feel a lot that's how that's how we're able to translate those feelings through the medium of theater of theater, film, song. Wait but it has to have a healthy distance so that you don't feel overwhelmed by all of it
@freyjabrigid
@freyjabrigid 2 жыл бұрын
@@sosexymagazinerobinwatkins8467 I completely agree. I’m also an artist who absorbs and takes in everything around me in a professional sense as well as personal. Childhood trauma or not, I actually believe it’s a gift and also a skill I’ve intentionally developed. The therapist’s comment is sort of like the chicken and the egg. It’s like they were trying to disprove the concept of an empath, but at the end of the day we can always argue nature / nurture but regardless, I’m highly empathic either way. That’s how I approached it in my own mind after that conversation.

Tldr; trauma dumping comment about being a fat person and getting compliments on being less fat. It always makes me feel so anxious when people comment on me "looking so good" from them thinking I look less fat. I am a fat person. I have been fat-fat since I was like 6. People telling me I look better only reminds me that they didn't think I looked good enough before. Even if they don't mean it that way, it feels like they're happier when I'm less fat. And it makes me sad about how I'm still fat and won't be good enough. Fat people are enough, being fat does not take away value of beauty. Beauty isn't the same thing as value. But we will be treated like it is.

bob, I gurantee that you crying at something like betty leaving on S8 was due to you feeling empathetic, you understood that something sad was happening, others around you were sad, the environment was sad so you felt sad, thats empathy. People claiming their "Empaths" are describing a whole other ridiculous thing where they are taking something as simply feeling empathy and creating an identity around it. But I do feel like what some people describe as energy is litteral just what you descibed which is sensing someones social cues, like just someone slouching or frowning etc. being able to pick up on those cues, undersand and then share those feelings is something that litterally everyone is capable of doing, some people are just less likely to try to understand others or allow the moods of others to then affect their moods.

I've been sober drug free for 5 years. I think the reason why Monet is attracted to the community and those type of friends are real and have gone through shit. And those type of people are usually more accepting and understanding. We're more interesting too lmao but that's why I love my community in recovery. I never have to feel embarrassed when I say something that normally others would like be super judgy

About the empath thing - because I am empathetic (caring) but not a total empath it is easier for me to be around other people who are in a super emotional state and listen without feeling their feelings. My empath friends appreciate that they don't have to worry about "hurting me " when they vent. So like I am a safe space for them to emote.

I love the empath convo you two had. For me an empath is someone who's able to see past the facade, they can see someone smiling but actually sense all the pain they're hiding. I think it's something we're all born with but some people don't develop it while others do ❤️. A good example is when you're sitting near a stranger, you're not looking at each other but you can sense they're interested in you. 2 minutes later they strike up a convo, I think that's a form of empathy too just being able to read vibes past what's surface and obvious.

Honestly, empaths being a red flag is a hit for me. Always the same people who make assumptions you don't need or are online being like 'my toxic trait is that I care too much'. If even half the people I met who claim to be empathic really did have powers and could read my feelings, they most certainly did not care about them and instead just loved talkin about what they thought was going on with me. Honestly, I think they're just confused about normal ass human empathy and that's about it.
