Side Shift Bow Thruster Restoration - Cleaned, Sanded, Painted and New Zincs

One of the items for work this spring was the boat's bow thruster. It's an add-on type made by Side Shift. sideshift.com/
It works pretty well for docking, and Anne really appreciates having it. Last summer, there was a joystick power switch issue that I DIY-solved - www.loveyourrv.com/side-shift...
But it always seemed too loose when operating, too much wiggle. So, while the boat was out of the water this spring, I removed the unit, and we had it sanded and painted. I cleaned the electrical terminals and tightened up the main nut hidden behind a seized-on aluminum cover. All is well now, and it looks great!

I was wondering how much drag this thing would cause when I saw it at launch.

On smaller planing-type boats, it comes out of the water, so there is no drag once they speed up. On our full displacement hull, it's not even noticeable; we go a maximum of 7-8 knots and weigh over 20,000 lbs, pushed via a 6-cylinder low-RPM diesel with a large prop. Cheers, Ray

Do you have to pay to Anchor in the bays?

For the most part no. Some places even have free stern tie rings on shore to aid. Some places are restricted though for environmental or industry reasons or have time limits but for the most part there are scads of free anchorages, most not very crowded. With so many islands and inlets on the BC coast there are lots of bays and coves to choose from. :)
