Part 2 of the making of my custom designed aluminum gantry support bracket for my Sidewinder X1 3D printer. You will see me start the machining process of the part, all go's pretty good till I have a small complication. Be sure to watch till the end to see what happens.

Damn what a heartbreak!! While we are waiting for the continuation - are you looking into having these custom brackets mass-produced for sale?

I havent planned on having them mass produced as of yet. The initial cost to have that done is way more than I could swing right now.

I have been thinking about selling a few sets. The amount of time it takes to make these would make it very hard, but its not off the table.

I know this is late to the discussion, but could you have put a small thrust bearing between the top of the motor and the bottom of the coupler to stop the motor shaft moving up and down on the bearing clip in the bottom of the motor (pinning the vertical movement of the lead screw)?

Sure that is an option. The ball bearing is an easier solution.

Hi! These supports look so nice. Is it possible to get the CAD-file with metric numbers. Since I don't have the ability to mill it by myself I have to look for a company doing it. Is there any way to get in contact with you by mail? Thanks! Chris

Hey sorry for the late reply. Are you looking for a blueprint with metric dimensions or a solidworks or similar 3d cad file?

@@EtherealProject3D Hi! No worries, thank you for your reply. A 3D CAD file would be perfect, but I would understand if you don't want to give that away. A drawing with metric dimensions would also be helpful. I thought about that since you mentioned that the original drawing had metric dimensions in it.

@@EtherealProject3D Wow, that's very generous. :-) DWG- or STEP-format would be great. If it's a format that can be opened by one of the general 3D-design software any format would be fine. :-)

Sadly no, the back holes are in a different spot. I will do a design for the X2 soon.

I am surprised to see you are climb milling in a manual machine. Does your machine have a ball screw conversion? If it does not for sure during the roughing ops you should conventional mill with the cutter. hard to say if the cutter pulled the part in the video causing a big chip load that broke the cutter but if the cutter pulls the table into the endmill called auto-feed usually results in what you see when the cutter broke.

It was a gambal for sure, I worked great on the first bracket but I got a little greedy with this cut.
