Really great review Dustin! Wonderful images. Definitely a nice lens this 28mm 1.4 art is! Surprised to see the ghosting/flaring being kinda bad + the autofocus. Well that's kind of where mirrorless has the advantage with autofocus. I don't plan to switching systems anyway (been sorta eyeing the D850!...maybe upgrade end of the year haha). Mirrorless is still pretty new so we'll see how they get better over time. I just love the controls of a DSLR like my D810 and spending less time in the menus and having to change batteries. Hope to see you review the 40mm 1.4 art soon. It's breathtaking in its optics performance. I can't put it down ever sine I got it (well a replacement for the first one being a bad one with scratches on the internal optics). Also I would love to see you one day review the Zeiss Milvus 25mm 1.4! :) Looking forward to your final review.

Hi Dustin, beautiful video. Have you been able to test the lens even with photos of moving subjects? How does it behave?

Hi Dustin. Knowing your love for Zeiss and 35mm I would highly recommend you try out the 35mm 1.4 ZM on your A7rIII. Even though it is a range finder lens I think you’ll find the size favours mirrorless bodies perfectly, and most importantly the image quality of the highest level. In a way it reminds me a lot of the 35Lii in the way it renders but with a bit more transparency. Micro-contrast, saturation, colour, sharpness, bokeh, are all there as you would expect from a Zeiss lens but rendered in a way that I personally think is just magical. I no longer own the 35mmLii to directly compare but I think you’ll find the ZM Zeiss to worthy challenger.

Interesting, though it would be hard for me to accept the tradeoff of MF when the 35LII is so good (plus I have the Samyang AF 35mm F1.4 on Sony, which is also quite good).

Another excellent roundup Dustin with a very top performing Sigma! I've seen a comparison test against the Otus 28mm f1.4 and the Sigma does very well against it, abeit a bit of visible lateral chromatic aberration and a small amount of front field curvature, however, this is a comparison against a lens vastly more expensive than the Sigma! Oh, and always love your grass bokeh shots! lol

I've been debating between the 24mm 1.4, the 35mm 1.4, the 24-35mm 2.0, and now this lens. I understand the 24-35 is an f2 but for everyday street use will the f1.4 make that much of a difference and if so which lens between the Sigma f1.4's would you recommend?

I would go with either the 24-35 or this 28mm (which is the best lens of the bunch optically).

Hi Dustin, i have a question. If you use this lens on an EOS R, is the field of view the same as it is on a 5D Mark IV if you set your camera on a tripod? or because of the adapter or EOS R the same 28mm is narrower then than mark IV ? thanks

It would be great if Sigma could design this lens "ground up" for Sony moun rather than for DSLR and then add an extension. Perhaps it might be slightly smaller.

Question : I also appreciate my Canon 35mm f1.4 M2, but I seem to be unable to get permanent realtime preview DOF (I do not want to waist a customized button just for only that lens - and needing to be kept pushed). Metabones (IV, on A7r3) refuses to answer this question in a strait way. I tried 3 times. Do I miss something? I could consider this 28mm 1.4 - but in FE version - as a replacement. Thank You in advance.

I just wanted to say that a comparison between the Sigma 28 1.4 and the Zeiss Otus 28 1.4 would have been nice, but I don't expect you to have such expensive lenses on hand. Would you say that Sigma is better than the Zeiss Otus?

Better is a hard call, as the Otus is fairly perfectly corrected. I will say that the Sigma isn't far off, though, and quality autofocus along with much more reasonable size certainly makes it a logical pick for many.

How does it compare to the Sigma 24mm F1.4 ART? Is it worth the extra money and weight?

I personally strongly prefer this lens to the 24mm F1.4. It's optically superior, focuses better, has weather sealing, and just produces more special images.

Thumbs up, possible an alternative to the RF 35mm f /1.8 IS STM ? Cost worth it or how about another scenario EF35mm f/2 IS USM vs RF35mm f/1.8 IS STM

I would consider the Tamron SP 35mm F1.8 VC a good alternative. Better build, nearly as high of magnification (0.40x), and good autofocus. Will need the adapter.

@@DustinAbbottTWI Thanks I have the adapter and I went out on a limb and bought the IRIX 15mm and 150mm for specifics but want a tighter wide prime. I also have the new RF 24-105 on the RP and enjoy the handling. I will look at this lens and thanks again.
