I love it. Still remember the first video I watched from Wolfpack few years ago. Back then he had 30 or so subscribers... and I remember the perfect timed torpedo against a Tribal-Class destroyer and his "Yeeeeesss!!!!" roar. This video is unavailable now, Wolfie perhaps has taken it down because of not meeting his high quality standards by now. Wolfie's narration qualities are improving every day. I feel like like that pixelated guy at 0:18 in the front clasping for you! :)

Wow, that was an amazingly close call! I'm amazed only your flak crew died, and not everyone who was on top the conning tower! A pity the game only grades you on shipping sunk, as I'm sure in real life being able to salvage a submarine under these circumstances would net a medal! I will say though, I think in the previous video you mentioned that you prefer the quad 20 over the 37mm flak cannons, but in my experience playing SH4 Monsoon the upgraded 37mm flak gun just tears through allied aircraft, and it can engage targets further out then the 20mm cannons, so I would suggest that you give that a try. As a side note, I absolutely love entering and leaving port in Silent Hunter, I just love all the little details, like the marching band, the girl throwing roses into the water, the U-boat pens, and all the harbor traffic, not to mention the ability to get a close look at all your allied warships!

Just started the tutorials to this game. Honestly, I’m getting major creeped out by the stares coming at me from the crew members in the control room. It’s obvious from these vids that I’m only being taught the basics. Loving this game.

I've recently discovered your channel and in particular I love all the silent Hunter 3 videos. In fact I binge watched all of them including the old Mediterranean ones. My favourite has to be the stuka attacks !! You've got me thinking about buying the game. Researched and downloaded GWX 3.0 but I can also see there are a million other mods. Given how many viewers you have, I think people would love a video on all the mods you have, where to get them and tricks you've had to use to get them working which you've briefly alluded to at times. FYI buying the game from Ubisoft AU store is only an electronic download now. AU$8. Given it's age I still think it's very cheap. I looked on Amazon hoping to get a DVD and I'm looking at AU$200. Anyway thanks for the videos.

Wow! I know I said you'd return home earlier, but I didn't think it would be *that* early! That was a lucky escape, taking a direct bomb hit and surviving! Your deck crew was caught with their pants down and didn't even manage to open fire before the bombs dropped! Seems you can't trust your ordinary sailors to man the guns, only petty officers will do. Maybe you need some with gunnery skills? The battle with the merchant was pretty epic. Amazing that it took 2 torpedoes and stayed afloat, good shooting with the deck gun however. You definitely need the mod that simulates fire damage reducing buoyancy! Very interesting episode to watch, quite the Das Boot feel to this one!

I love these patrol episodes you do wolf & i exspecially enjoy the mini history lessons about equipment, That was an awesome episode, it was great to see you get attacked & manage the repairs, only because most You Tubers always manage to survive or miraculously not get hit to that extent, i know its a bummer when it's you but for us the viewer it makes it a more action packed episode, awesome m8, glad they didn't do a 2nd attack round but that might of been to you restarting game, just as well because yeah as you say good chance you would have sunk. Looking forward to the next patrol even more so now as the war starts to really change

The way you communicate, everything bro, it's awesome how you narrate the whole series! Best wishes from Spain, I live nearby a uboot which was sunk in 1943 by a British Lancaster plane based in Gibraltar, it was the U-77, they even found the survivors, and talked to them! It's divingable (idk if it exists xD) but some people have been to it, it's very well conserved.

Brutal. So many boats succumbed to surface attacks transitioning to or from Port. Especially during the final year and a half of the war! Lucky to have survived and returned to base!

Congratulations with bringing your boat back in spite of all the damage and your five casualties. I've been there too and just barely managed to get my boat back. So far I have made it to February 1945, operating out of Norway. I can't say I have had much success in the last three voyages, although I did manage to shoot down some aircraft. Just too much air cover and too many escorts. Even deploying the schnorkel is risky as the enemy's latest radars seem able to home in on it as well. It has gotten to the point that every time we leave harbour seems like the last.

Oh man was I worried this would be the end! Good job at saving your boat too! The Azores are a death zone at this point in the war. Well at least you achieved what many couldn't at this point in the uboot krieg: Being heavily damaged and still making it back to port!

2am is the golden number, I have zeroed in on it over the past month like I've zeroed in on the weak spots of Large Merchants, Empire Freighters and Large Tankers. Did a doozy while waiting for this to drop and sank a Medium Cargo then a Granville using just the large flak gun, took almost two hours in real time so I think I earned those 12000 GRT. Excited for the watch ahead!

I'm not a gamer but totally hooked on this series. Love it.! The fact is that I played SH III when it first came out on XP (without mods) and couldn't quit. Had to of course when windows came to the conclusion, "hey,, everything goes far to smooth man, let's launch Vista". Would easily spend some serious money on a PC for being able to play this game again. But looks like it's pretty complicated to make it work. Alot of people seems to have problems with installing the game, mods etc. Sad that none of the big game developers dares to take up this genre again. The same with Il-2. Your channel is the proof of that there is a huge interest for this genre. Wish U and the crew best of luck, commander.

Damn, with no "part x" after the patrol number I was already getting suspicious, but I also thought that could be a mistake in naming the video. What a nail biting moment, I was just schivering in fear of the aircraft coming back so I can only imagine what is must have been for you waiting dead in the water for much more time!

Tense moments indeed! I have an idea regarding the Flak not firing at first. At 30:37 you hear someone yelling "Ich lade nach!" (I m reloading) and at 30:42 you hear the sound of a gun getting loaded followed by your 1. WO reporting "Flak feuerbereit Herr Kaleun" (Flak ready to fire, captain/sir). I never tought about it but it seems logical that a gun on top of a submarine had to be unloaded during a dive and reloaded when on the surface to function properly. So the only thing you could do to prevent the slow start of your Flak would be to keep men on the guns the whole time you travel surfaced.

Hey, love your SH3 videos! I've been playing with the base GWX for a while now but have been having issues with crashes at sea. I'm going to try and use the mod list in your description since it looks like a more immersive way to play the game, thanks for including the info! Just wondering if you ever had issues with crashing or if there's anything specific you could recommend for mod installation to avoid heart breaking crashes mid patrol after weeks at sea?

A Use for the homing torpedoes is against destroyers that are coming your way just point in general direction fire and dive

Yes, that is what the acoustic torpedoes were designed for, a defence weapon against destroyers. Using them against merchants would not be regarded favourably at U-boat HQ, as they were rare and expensive compared to normal straight running torpedoes.

I don’t know what sh3 does and does not simulate, but asssiming it simulates reality, they are hearing your sonar ping not seeing your scope. Imagine being on a merchant and in an apparently empty seeing hearing a sonar ping reflecting off your hill

You should get that mod you mentioned earlier in the series that has fire give extra damage to ships since it is becoming more difficult the later in the war you get.

Great video and thanks for keeping the sim alive! "Detects RADAR? Nine, Mein Kapitan, it's a "bug light". Typically, you can safely engage from 3.5 to 4k meters effectively without fear of damage/injury. You're out of small arms and MG fire and by the time they've dialed in the range, you've sunk'em. Additionally, per SUBSIM blogs - Many "seasoned" Captains play with the self-imposed rule that the gun cannot be used in seas with over 10 knot winds for two reasons; 1. Historically, a crew couldn't man a gun in that weather, let alone fire accurately with the deck pitching like a crazy elevator. 2. It is a throwback to pay honor to Silent Service (SH) I & II where the computer would not allow it. (Yeah, cheesy but true). Me-I love the gun but always let the crew aim. That way I can yell obscenities at them and not fell too bad. It is a sim after all! Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Nice episode! But how did the 5th guy die? Four died on the flakguns, you replaced them (no one else was dead) and after that you made a cut, and theres 5 sailors down. Did the planes make another run? And btw flak gun 3 (I guess the big one is number 3) was "not working" and the left 2cm flak probably had no angle so that could be the reason they didnt fire. (oh and a tip: if you use flak/deckgun use a WO with gunner skill, ofc you were under pressure and had to deal with everything but next time dont forget it, helps a lot)

Almost didn't make it. Lucky they did not come back. I noticed how you can start/stop the watch on the nav map. I am using the same gui as you but can only start the clock in the attack/observation scope also every message to my boat from bdu is blank only general information come thru. Any thoughts?

I'm sure you have heard this before but what's better in your opinion silent hunter or uboat? I'm thinking about getting one or the other.

Holy shit, that was intense! I just don't get why you haven't enabled the radar. My thiking is - if you have it, then use it if it's going to help you. Assuming that the metox is not able to detect some wave lenghts, then radar is a good complementary to the metox. If the metox doesn't detect enemy, your radar certainly will.

I knew that second hit on the medium cargo wouldn't do it. In fact it probably made the situation worse for you. GWX changes the way ships are sunk from being primarily hit point based to being primarily buoyancy based. It's why center shots suck unless they back break. You hit the ship once in the bow and once just barely behind center. The second hit balanced the buoyancy. Try to hit ships in either bow or aft never center or both.

It's quite impressive that you where able to almost make it 3 years into the war without losing one man or even being severe damage (The other attacks you had throughout the series where minor). Sad that the 7th patrol had to end so soon, but i feel that this is kind of preparing for what's to come from the epilogue of WWII. I wish you the best of luck!

Unrelated question - is there a sim similar in scale and complexity to Silent Hunter, but based on surface ships (bigger ones), maybe Bismarck or Gneisenau?

Sadly no. There was a game called Destroyer Command back in the days, but otherwise there never was one with surface ships wich had the scale of SH3.

I've seen mods for SH3 and SH4, but no individual game sadly. Closest you'd get I think is Battlestations Midway and Battlestations Pacific.
