My, that seems like it was so long ago, yet, i still have hope that soon i will once again return to Hamburg and that we will all have a family dinner once again. Have you kept in contact with my dear Erika? I have tried to contact her many times but still got no response. I hope she is alright as well during these harsh times. And so, once again, you will not hear from me quite some time. I hope i will once again return to shore and be able to read your letter. Stay safe, Your dear Karl." Later that day: Once again, the entire crew made ready for their departure from port. Everything was set and so, in the late hours of january 29th, they once again departed Bergen with only token cheering from the few german guards and staff that were there with them. Soon, they left the fjords of Norway and were once again in the open seas.... January 30th, early morning Enjoying the nice weather, Karl was lost in his thoughts as he stared towards the sea in front of him. His moment of peace ended when the captain tapped him on the sholder. Turning his head towards the captain, the navigator knew what was happening, but still, he waited for the captain to speak. "It is time, N.O." Hearing those words, the navigator nodded and then straightened up, only adding: "Understood, captain" before he went towards the hatch. Before going down it, he enjoyed the air and the sight for a final moment before going down into the submarine. Once in, he heard the captain climbing down and closing the hatch. This signaled the start of another underwater journey. Once the captain got off the ladder he orderd that the boat dive to periscope depth. And so, after a few moments, the submarine once again dissapeared beneath the waves, and began her long underwater stay. "New course captain?" the navigator asked when the process was done. "Towards the English east coast N.O." he replied before he leaned leaned over the map along with the navigator to set the course towards their patrol target.... Diary of a u-boat navigator: January 30th, 1945 Today we once again dived our boat after leaving the Norvegian shores. Another underwater adventure awaits us. This time, the BdU wants us to be a costal submarine and ordered us to patrol near the british east coast. This will be quite akward for our submarine as it was not built for operating this close to enemy shores. Still, we will do our mission and hope that we don't encounter enemy destroyers while in the shallowest parts of our patrol area. A single depth charge could force us to the surface in these shallow waters, still, in the worst case, we won't be crushed to death by water pressure and instead have a chance to fix our boat on the sea floor. Let us hope we won't have to face that scenario. February 4th, 1945 Today 3 small merchants were spoted, no escorts. We got into attack position but their sudden course change ruined our attack plan and we had to impovise. In the end we only fired 1 torpedo at the back merchant and hit. We could hear her hit the sea floor, it was that shallow. After that, we decided to disengage and try to attack a nearby convoy, a better target for our torpedoes. February 5th, 1945 We missed the convoy, but we found a lone small merchant. One torpedo later, it was going down towards the shallow depths. Small pickings so far, but at least no danger as well. February 7th, 1945 Looks like luck is with us so far on this patrol, we found more unescorted merchants this close to Britan. These ones were bigger than the small ones we faced so far, so it's a bonus. At first, we fired 3 torpedoes, 2 at a large freighter and 1 at a liberty cargo. While the freighter went down, the liberty cargo was stuborn and refused to sink so we fired another one at her. While that one stopped her dead, she still refused to sink after hours of waiting. A third torpedo was fired at her and it was finaly enough to brake her back. A loud sound could be heard as she hit the seafloor. After that was done with, we went back to our new course of going through the channel and towards the irish sea. Before we left the area, i asked the captain to use the periscope and was granted my request. I could see the masts of both ships sticking out of the sea, marking their graves for who knows how many years to come... (Another long one. I just couldn't resist. Anyway, as always, i hope you enjoy my little aditions to the searies. Now we wait for the next episode once again. Have a good day everyone :) )

Adding the Crimea or ports in the Mediterranean may be quite fun for a similar reason, as you’d have to get through Gibraltar Also, love the final shot

Wow, stellar patrol. I loved the zag example proving zig-zagging was worth the time and risk (many ship collisions until merchant crew learned the process). The XXI is an amazing weapon system.

Especially one series where you literally go after those massive warship flotilla’s like last video. It would be really cool to see what these could do against a hunter-killer group

Hey mate, great to see you got another series going. I finally got a working version and have started playing myself, I started my career at the start of the war and my first patrol took me to AN 56 funnily enough. Guess what I ran into coming out of the Firth of the Forth? The HMS Nelson!!! I fired my 3 torpedo tubes, got 2 hits right in the middle and sank it!!! Also, I believe you and I used to game together....

That last ship is a HASZARD to navigation were it sank. Also an easy salvage.

You would think that the Allies would have been out there with at least a float plane within three to four hours of over 17,000 tons of shipping being torpedoed just a few miles off the coast, especially this late in the war with the air superiority they have. Also, those torps on those little boats would have broken them in half...but it's still pretty hilarious to see small figures getting blown off the boats. The Liberty ships were fairly tough, especially around the engine spaces. Maybe putting a torp in the aft section to at least wreck the screws would be a good idea going forward.

Suggestion for the torpedo impacts. Position the camera to the bow or stern of the ship with the shot down the length of the ship. Have the torp come in from the left or right of the screen.

Since everyone is throwing out all kinds of wacky suggestions I figure I'd throw my hat in the ring and suggest you try to traverse the Suez Canal or the Panama Canal in the Type XXI, possibly to "Make an escape" so to speak at the end of the war. Suez would be particularly interesting because it would benchmark the Type XXI against the Strait of Gibraltar defenses in 1945 on the way there, see just how stealthy, evasive and long the battery endurance is of the Electroboot. I've always found Large Cargo's to be one of the easiest merchants to sink, you pop one magnetic somewhere underneath and then they just flood, and flood, and flood... older design I guess. Conversely I have always found Liberty Cargo's along with Ore Carriers to be the most resistant to damage, especially magnetic pistols, which is curious. I always aim for the forward cargo masts, get that screw lifted out of the water so she can't run ;) Last thing, I think the technical term is "She's down by the bow" or "She's settling by the stern" as I believe listing refers exclusively to the perpendicular of the keel, and settling is parallel along the keel. She can also "settle amidships" whereas it wouldn't make sense for her to be "Listing to amidships". Just some semantics though, not a real issue. I can already see you're getting that blaze U-boat Kaleun vibe after a short time in the seal clubbing piece of engineering that is the Type XXI, just don't get too lax ;) Absolutely loving this mini-series, wringing my hands waiting for the next one as always. Keep up the fantastic work!

I've been stuck on shore leave at the local funny farm til recently so this is belated, but I swear Captain I heard an elf at 15:53. Are we sure they didn't make a base at the north pole too? Or are we recruiting dwarves too now...times are dire indeed.

@Wolfpack345 : 1m under keel is too low for these large targets. It doesn't do enough damage, as damage falloff from range is WAY to high in this game. Especially in calm see, go for 0,5m to ensure an instakill. In heavy seas, that can sadly lead to them bouncing off from the rounded part of the ships hull ... Or use (draft-1,5m) and go for the lower part of the vessels side. Resulting list might kill them equally fast. IIRC FAT torps must be adjusted , they don't automatically start the search pattern at the target distance set in the computer; can't remember how this is done, though. Oh, never(*) set up a acoustic torp to run under the largest target - nothing else will set them off then if they go for another target. Set them to barely run under a DD. That way, if they miss the DD, they will happily detonate against the side of some freighter - or if you aim for some freighter, a DD might pay for getting in the way. (*) unless you are coming 100° from the side into a hunter-killer group and you're shooting the torp at the butt of the CVE basically from behind at 80° angle, without doing any calculations. Then set it to 0,5m under keel for the CVE, point the crosshair at the stern of the CVE and fire, go "Große Fahrt" and deep and switch to outside cam for the fireworks - man, that was fun ;-)

I hope a new silent hunter game gets rumored soon. I really hope they'll do maybe the Japanese subs. They had really interesting designs like the I-400 which could carry planes!

I did a model of u96 the German uboat submarine and the best war videos you could show the world of tanks battles and my favourite tanks is the German tiger 1 and m4a1 Sherman tank and you could do a real videos of Australian armoured artillery museum in Smithfield QLD Australia

Stern tube would have been handy for those three ships.
