To be fair, I'd never let the "Petto/Pedo" thing go, either. You know the script writer was deliberately using it as a bad pun, while patting himself on the back every time it came up in the script.

I might be going against the crowd here but I actually think Fat Grandma is pretty humorous. The framing device of her relaying yet another tale to Lewis does a more than decent job of poking fun at that trope. Also, Lewis is several orders of magnitude funnier as Fat Grandma than Tyler Perry ever was as Madea. If you look at FG as a playful deconstruction rather than taking her absurdity completely straight then you'll get the point. Brad, great job as always. Hope you have a great holiday and get to spend it those who mean the most to you.

+J.K. Nicholson I...Actually liked the Mandarin Reveal. I thought that reveal was hilarious, despite liking the Comics Mandarin. If anything, the "Fake Terrorist hiding real weapons dealer" gig was better than just making Ben Kingsley "the real Mandarin." Even if Kingsley was the true villain of the movie, he wouldn't have had alien/magical rings and wouldn't have fought Iron Man face-to-face. There was no chance that the Really-Real Mandarin ever would have been in that movie because the MCU still tries to play things as close to the science vest as they can and, more importantly, doesn't really pay attention to its villains. Maybe if Iron Man 3 came out after GotG or Age of Ultron (to be honest, I didn't really like AoU's Ultron), we could get the Real Mandarin, but the Ben Kingsley version was ultimately a product of its time. Personally, I prefer it this way. If we can't get the Genghis Kahn-inspired, megalomaniacal conqueror who can pimp slap Iron Man without using a mech suit, any and all Mandarins that movie could have given us would have been The Fake Mandarin. That said, I was legitimately surprised and entertained when it turned out Kingsley was just a dope and Alridch Killian was much more cunning and dangerous than we originally thought. Before that reveal, Killian was kinda boring...OKay, he wasn't that interesting even after the reveal, but he DID manage to inch out ahead of Iron Monger and Whiplash. In my opinion, anyway.

@BloodrealmX5 жыл бұрын
Change your mind? Alright, I'm game. The best Chester A. Bum-inspired character is Diamanda Hagan's Aleister D. Homelesssb'sterrd (especially because he became different enough to be entirely his own thing with an established personality). Fat Grandma isn't a Bum character at all: she's the result of Phelous prompting Linkara to do a Medea impression without ever having seen a Medea movie, instead only having a description of what that is. Fat Grandma cannot be the best Bum character because she isn't one.

8:39 No offense to Mickey Rooney fans but he was hardly in a position to criticize other movies after doing one of the most racist roles in cinema history.
@graemesmith67212 жыл бұрын
In his defense, that was in 1961, when that sort of thing was fairly commonplace. It's not really fair to blame him for being unable to foresee that it would be viewed as offensive more than half a century later. Also, Rooney was the first choice for the role of Archie Bunker, but turned it down because he thought the character was un-American.
@redvelvetunderground2 жыл бұрын
@@graemesmith6721 lol just because it was commonplace doesn't make it right? & it's interesting you frame it as "he couldn't foresee people calling him racist for doing a terrible Chinese stereotype decades later" instead of realizing doing racist stereotypes was wrong in the first place
@graemesmith67212 жыл бұрын
@@redvelvetunderground It's very easy to adopt a morally superior attitude and sit in judgment on people of the past, but it's also rather smug and self-congratulatory. "Ha ha, I'm so much better than those unenlightened slobs!" It's somewhat more challenging to see Rooney's portrayal of a Japanese (not Chinese) character in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" as a product of its time, a time when standards were different. Rooney's character may be embarrassing by modern standards, but it wasn't hateful, unlike the portrayals of the Japanese in WWII propaganda films, and from what I know about Rooney himself, he wasn't a hateful person. Therefore, I'm inclined to be generous and cut him a little slack.
