This is completely off topic but I’d love your professional view/opinion. What do you think about the STS treatment from Design Essentials? I’m using the anti-breakage form of the line (Anti-Breakage treatment/Step 2). I have fine, seemingly low porosity hair with a medium to low density. My intention is to minimize breakage since fine hair is typically the most fragile.

Roller sets are my love. I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm natural but I've never done a wash n go and I always dry my hair, no matter what the style. I've never had heat or any other kind of damage. I used to feel guilty because I never follow all the team-natural rules. LOL! You took my guilt away. Thanks!! :)

I'm in my fabulous early fifties with a lot of long low porosity heavy hair and I've been and will continue to be a roller set girl for life. I then hit my wavy roots with a flat iron or hit it with a pressing comb (both temp dials) plus my hair prefers some heat or air dry in big rods. In the summer I wash, condition, and wear two long plaits with aloe vera etc once a week, pincurl it, and satin scarf 😊. Wash and go/ twist outs have never been my jam plus sets have more body and last wayyyyy longer with less hair in the comb. Cyn, I remember you had me hollering talking about people using WIC rice for growth😂😂. I love you and I'm happy you're still successful in your endeavors and always educating us🥰🤩😉. Blessings to you and your family🎉🎉👍👍🔥.

Hi Cyn, I am from Africa and I'm currently living in Africa. I'm from Cameroon, which is in Central Africa, and I now live in South Africa. I can confirm that what you are saying about keeping hair stretched for health and length is absolutely true. Actually I know it as a fact. When I was a young girl up to the age of 18, my mum used to do threading on me and all my sisters hair every 2 weeks and we all had long, full and healthy hair like your client in this video. Our haircare routine was extremely simple. Every 2 weeks, wash, condition, let the hair air dry stretched, put some hair food, brush and comb and then thread the hair. We kept our hair in threads for 2 weeks at a time and then wash it and follow that routine. Our hair was in a stretched form at least 90% of the time! My mum would even wash our hair stretched with the threads on! And we would only unravel the plaits once our hair was completely dry. Detangling was a breeze then and we never had big knots. Once a month my mum would trim the ends of our hair after doing threading. And that's the routine that most girls in my high school also followed in their home. And many also had long healthy hair back then. It's only after I turned 18 and started experimenting with different hair styles and practices and then discovered and followed the team natural movement that I started having breakage and all sorts of problems with my hair.
@bellemady1
@bellemady1 6 ай бұрын
I'd like to add that nowadays the threading method is still practiced in Cameroon and many other parts of Africa but it has fallen out of popularity for more modern hairstyles and techniques. It is still done mostly on little girls in primary school but the grown-up ladies do not do it as much as before.

Girl preach!!!!! Stretched hair that can be left ALONE for at least a week is KEY to hair health when u have tight curls. Also, we (and i mean me) need to stop holding on to the idea we need a perfect unblemished curl pattern. I DONT WEAR WASH N GOs! Why do i need to make sure the nape of my neck stay 4a and i don’t wear my hair as 4a hair? 😂 once i released that mindset and wore stuff that was EASY for me, not what was popular…my hair flourished. I wear roller sets that i press out the roots, literally no product just heat protectant and water….and mini twists on blown out hair (i even roller my hair before blow drying the curl out) only product is a foam and shea butter on my ends…my hair is flourishing!!!!

I feel some type of way when we are told our hair cannot grow if you let your hair grow as it is from your scalp. African hair types are the original. Before current hair care practices, African and Black American hair grew. Please understand I'm not anti heat, I think we need to not throw the baby out with the bath water. We need balance and one size does not fit all

I was a cosmetology instructor before settling for more education to do what I’m doing. With your expertise and skills, you know “roots” are sub (beneath) the surface. I know as professionals, we have faux pas from time to time. Keep doing what you’re doing. I’m glad I ran across this video. My hair is midway down my back (and half silver & black). I don’t feel like fooling with it. I had an appointment with a young lady to get the passion boho crochet, but like clockwork, she bailed on me again. Wow this is really prophetic. Ive been natural since 2012 and Ive been able to grow my hair to mid back at times but suffered a lot of breakage mainly because of hair coloring 😅. My hair is damaged currently and I was tempted to do a big chop. I was diacouraged but I told myself I was gonnna get some trims and grown my hair back. Two weeks ago out of nowhere I just had the desire to stop doing wash & gos. I just got really tired of all that product in my hair and I felt like it was drying my hair out more than anything. Then I stumbled on your chamnel ❤. Its devine intervention ❤😊

If you have color a wash n go is the fastest way to damage your hair. You’ve had pigment removed so the bonds must be set properly and left along until the next wash day. The color didn’t do it did you did. Keep learning and stop all your team natural hacks to turn it around.

Yesss. I’ve always been a straight natural. I’m just now dabbling into natural hairstyles and of course I looked to KZfaq for guidance. And let me tell you baby I’m not doing all this extra stuff they tell you to do. Detangle shampoo detangle condition detangle add styling products detangle…spend hours on a style and hope it comes out right. Redoing my hair every couple days. And don’t get me started on the amount of products they use. If ANY hairstyle takes me more than 3 hours (wash included) I’m not doing it lol. I’ll be…I do love this wash and go though. I detangled once used a leave in and gel. Now all I have to do is figure out how to make it last for at least a week.

I knew about the sebum and it not being able to travel down the hair shaft of coily, curly hair, but felt if my hair wasn't naturally straight there was nothing I could do because I had the belief like most women with natural hair that straightening was damaging. I feel so motivated to get back into a routine to keep my hair healthy without water on a daily basis. But I do have a concern, menopause has reduced the density of my hair. What can I do to give the appearance of fuller hair?

I started getting my hair silk pressed every 2 weeks instead of once a month during the first quarter last year b/c I had seborrheic dermatitis (I believe, I even developed huge bald spots) and wanted to use Dermazen and Briogeo Scalp Soothing Solutions Set often enough to manage it. Those products definitely worked! I also watched your video about blue butterfly pea for that condition and drank my blue lattes. I was feeling a bit guilty for getting silk pressed every 2 weeks but my stylist has assured me that my hair is doing just fine and recovering from that dermatitis. We really have to let go of that old #TeamNatural brainwashing/programming. Thanks for all you do! ❤

I’m constantly doing my weekly wash and go, but am tired of the need to immediately trim my ends. ( split end nightmare ). The longer it grows. I’m stating to accept I should try a new method of maintenance. Thank you for showing and explaining the reasoning on how stretched styles protect and retain hair growth. I’m going to try a blow out with flexi rod set on bendable rollers. My high porosity hair needs heavy product - with wash and gos, but with your techniques I can incorporate more similar styles. 🙏🏽 thank you !!!

I dry my hair under a hooded dryer and I leave the braids until my next wash day. Is this a good length retention routine or should I Blowdry my hair first and then do comrows? Also if I do a perm rod set can I do it on wet hair or should I Blowdry my hair first?
@IamCynDoll
@IamCynDoll 6 ай бұрын
No never braid hair when it’s wets just blow dry your hair and braid it. Hair is weakest when wet. Your damaging the hair more by leaving it wet for days and allowing bacteria to grow on your wet scalp. Wet oily places are the best environment for the bacteria that lives on the scalp. Blow dry with a leave in conditioner and braid your hair.

Making sure your hair is moisturized BEFORE you blowdry. Make sure to rinse out ALL conditioner. Blowdry should make your hair 80% straight (the blowdry is the most important step imo) don’t be heavy on product. Clarifying shampoo(clean thoroughly) Moisturizing shampoo Condition/or deep conditioner Rinse well Leave in(try to find a leave in that doubles as a heat protectant) don’t be heavy. Heat protectant Anti humidity spray Chi silk infusion I use Olaplex shampoo and conditioner mostly, Olaplex 6 as my leave in. Amika anti humidity spray and chi silk infusion. Play around with products to see what works for you. Everybody’s different but those are popular. And most importantly make sure you don’t have split ends. Split ends will immediately cause your hair to frizz Couple drops of oil(optional)
