Really impressed by your application of body armor/ballistic protection, as a means of helping people facing oppressive governments and hostile forces and finding solutions for people with lack of access to high quality materials. Your step by step instruction of the manufacturing process of armor with such sub-optimal materials and no tools is amazing. Your demonstration of their effectiveness gives me faith that you will save lives with what you're doing. And who knows, if enough people fighting authoritarians adopt your ideas, it's easy even possible your work could contribute to the downfall of an evil authoritarian. Doing your part for the expansion of the free world, and downfall of the oppressors.

great video. very applicable. something i dont think many people know is that paper does usually have a grain direction to it. I know toilet paper and news paper is oriented a specific way because of the strength needed to pull it out from a roller.... you can determine the grain direction of paper by ripping it and just feeling which direction it is stronger in. i would imagine both toilet paper and maybe even printer paper would approach the theoretical upper limit of its strength if cross woven. that should be equal to 1+(sqrt(2)) or about 141% improvement in strength. this would depend highly on the average fiber length. so with alternating fiber direction you could probably expect simmilar performance if the amount of material was recuded by 1/3rd but alternated in fiber direction. the same is true for ur earlier HMWPE bag experiments. also, it has been well demonstrated in the litterature that wrapping thin plastic sheets around something instead of cutting them to size achieves another ~40% in tensile strength. this is more to do with heat bonded uhmwpe sheets wrapped around aluminium. for some reason the plates are actually penitrated from the back side to the front side upon impact and the timing of a compression wave tends to instantly line up with the peak of max pressure causing easier pentation. this is demonstrated in figure 8 of the publication that pops up if you put "S026382232032612X" into ur least favorite search engine and click on the first publication link. really good stuff from that group. btw did you know you can get pure single sapphire crystals meant for scratch resistant watch faces from china for around 2-3$ each now days? kind of crazy. its basically as hard as diamond and would make one of the best possible ceramic strike faces for a given weight and thickness. i picked a bunch up on aliexprez recently. also, you can find some really cheap ceramic ball bearings on there or even steel ball bearings. just some ideas. thanks again for all your work in this area. most u2bers are not putting in the time and effort you have and i like how receptive to feedback you are.

Something I would like to see with your tests, tape some chopsticks on the top of the box overhanging the top of the plate with a piece of paper on it just to see if any spalling ends up going upwards towards the jaw neck face area. Know what I mean? Just an extension of the top of the box, towards the camera, to see how much debris escapes capture and goes in a dangerous direction.

Have you tested glass? I would be interested to see glass as a strike face covered with safety foil plus a welding mat as a backer, or acrylic sheets but thin ones half a mm or less. Something like 4 or 5 mm glass both sides covered with safety foil(0.5 mm something like that) 3 layers of them and the mat. Something that would fit into a plate carrier. I believe glass has a higher compressive strength than ceramic tiles and the density is the same. Plus much more homogeneous without any hidden cavities or manufacturing faults.

I would dip the finished product in epoxy resin. Poke holes through the duct tape so the resin gets through. Those plate companies probably melt everything together. The porcelain sand tile fabric etc. Resin

Awesome to see you back, it's such a neat idea using these easy to acquire materials found around the house, are you doing anymore videos on the original milk jug body armor? I've been collecting and cutting up milk jugs and bleach bottles and other hdpe bottles for the last 3 years, I mentioned to you in the past that I'm eventually planning on a full batman suit armor made of the milk jug plates and yoga mat for backing and nylon webbing to hold the plates together, I started a KZfaq channel called "TECHIE UNUSUAL" I have 6 videos but they aren't content for milk jug body armor yet, my channel niche will be random life hacks and gadgets and armor from milk jugs, grocery bags and household materials and will be a similar niche to your channel and (hacksmith industries) channel and (TKOR), ( nighthawkinlight), (colinfurze) but honestly you inspired me the most with the milk jug body armor.

Have you ever tried any of the HDPE cutting boards on the market? Sheets of HDPE can also be found. I believe some of these cutting boards might be effective against non magnum hollow point pistol rounds. No modifications just buy one or two and use as is. I believe the addition of a couple of large ceramic tiles, duct taped and glued together with silicone caulking or epoxy and also taped and glued to the cutting board just might stop most all pistol rounds, including magnums. It should be easy enough for most people to assemble fairly quickly as well.

Epoxy resin will probably keep the plate sand together when it gets shot

Hey bud! I have an idea that might increase the amount of energy dispersion. If you sew the polyester in strips or squares, while not overlapping the stitched layers, it could increase the repeat impact durability and the energy dispersion. Considering a sewing machine can be picked up quite cheap, this might work with the budget build in mind.

The time, material, and tools needed will make this would make this so much more expensive than just buying armor outright for most people.

New subscriber here. Very good effort for helping those protesters in Iran. I thought this was for the war in Ukraine at first until I watched the video. I have a suggestion or request for your next HDPE armor video if you're interested in trying it or somehow have room to include it into the schedule of that video if you can. The request is basically doing what you did for your last video on using HDPE as a laminate or resin for bonding multiple layers of fiberglass together but instead using PET (Polyethylene Terepthalate) plastic as the laminate or resin for fiberglass. I have a very good solution to exactly how you could go about doing this without it being very difficult because most of us know already that PET is hard to melt due to it's greater temperature resistance over HDPE but it's also 3 times stronger than HDPE so I wanted to know what would happen if you used it as a laminate or adhesive for a fiberglass backer. Could it possibly yield a much stronger composite backing to a porcelain strike face so much so that it might stop that 7.62x54R LPS round you've been trying so hard to stop with homemade armor or maybe even more powerful rifle rounds that are even harder to stop than that one. Do I have your undivided attention yet Tech? Anyway if you can please attempt this on your next polyethylene video. And if works amazing wonders maybe you can mention me in the video as the one who suggested it. Here's the best way I found to melt PET without much difficulty: stack up layers of pet plastic with fiberglass between 2 sheets of ceramic kiln paper and 2 deep dish nonstick cake pans for baking with C clamps 🗜️ and then blast the pans with a heat gun on the low temperature setting. I should mention that a heat gun is the only thing that I know of that will get hot enough to melt PET plastic since conventional ovens will not work for this task. Again if you can please test this method on your next HDPE video. I would test it myself but I don't own a heat gun yet and I don't have any firearms that's why I'm asking you to test it. The 7.62x39 used over there is probably a 57-N-231 derivative, so would have a steel core.

If you try enough materials will you eventually figure out its the resin and not the stuff you put in it? The layering material is probably most effective as a tight weave and not other properties. Maybe?

What about tile with fleece backer (fleece blankets)? Or even fleece with epoxy resin. It would end up very thick, but I think it would work well.

Has anyone used case hardened mild steel / sheet metal ? Baking tray’s ect ? Or any other cheap commonly available hardened sheet metal? Shovel’s , paint scrapers , concrete trowel ect. Seen some videos using crushed bbq charcoal & propane torches to surface harden ( case harden ) mild steel . Hard surface .0015” ish deep .

Wonder how much a slight peak down the center and adding thin metals would effect penetration.

Really appreciate these. I was wonder a lot about using just layers of fiberglass cloth and resin to reinforce a car. The floor tiles are pretty heavy, do you think just those lightweight materials could ever provide adequate protection?

Nice work ive seen from you using inexpensive materials however i'm curious, why do you always start with small rounds you know will not penetrate,...but.. it makes it just a little weaker. Why not start close to what you think will be close and work up or down from there? Seems you may stop bigger rounds by starting with them. Ill finish tbe vid and maybe you do but in videos past i always see starting with even a 22 😂. At least start at 45 acp lol. Or try 223 on a fresh one and 7.62x39 on a fresh one if tge 556 is stopped. Anyways just an armchair quarterbacks humble opinion

This should go without saying but if you really need body armor like actually need it please just buy it don’t cheap out and make your own body armor. Obviously if you need it immediately and can’t afford it that may be a different story but don’t gamble your safety on affordability
