Il poeta romano Catullo così scriveva su Sirmione:
"Salve! Oh mia bella Sirmione, perla e regina della ville che lago o mare abbia mai baciato colla carezza delle sue onde! Oh con qual gioia oggi ti rivedo!...
Oh me beato che a te ritorno come torna il pellegrino alla sua casa desiderata e pieno l'animo ancora delle emozioni provate.
Godo di riposare le stanche membra..."
Sirmione è un delizioso borgo che sorge lungo la penisola omonima che si protende per circa 4 chilometri nel lago di Garda, dividendone a metà la riva meridionale. Il luogo è abitato fin da epoca preistorica e romana (visitabili i resti di una domus, denominata "Grotte di Catullo"). Divenne poi un avamposto militare difeso dal Castello edificato dai Della Scala, signori di Verona.
Grazie alla sua splendida posizione e al clima mite è un luogo di grande fascino frequentato da turisti provenienti da tutto il mondo.
Vi sono anche sorgenti termali di acqua sulfurea salsobromoiodica che hanno molteplici proprietà benefiche.

Sirmione is a delightful village that rises along the peninsula of the same name that extends for about 4 kilometers into Lake Garda, dividing the southern shore in half. The place has been inhabited since prehistoric and Roman times (the remains of a domus, called "Grotte di Catullo" can be visited). It then became a military outpost defended by the Castle built by the Della Scala, lords of Verona.
Thanks to its beautiful location and the mild climate is a place of great charm frequented by tourists from all over the world.
There are also thermal springs of sulphurous salsobromoiodic water that have multiple beneficial properties.
