About:
I am Paul "Pie" Ingram. I am a hiker and filmmaker from the UK that's living in Finland and hiking all over the world. Pieonthetrail is all about sharing my hiking films, reviewing gear, and sharing tips and tricks. In 2015 I Thru-Hiked the 2189-mile Appalachian Trail; in 2017, I finished the 2700-mile Continental Divide Trail (CDT). I've also hiked:
- The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal
- 400+ miles on the high routes in California's Sierra Nevada
- 400+ miles crossing Iceland from NW to S
- My current project, "seasonslostfilm," has me hiking the East Highland Way in Scotland in January and again in June.

You can also use it (carefully!) as a windscreen for your stove.

Other Things I have used mine for... Wind screen for stove. Floatie for swimming. Roof for my pack during rain. I once cut a chunk off to give to another hiker so they could add padding to their hip belt. Never hike without it!

Nice! Thanks for the tips. I have a fold up one that fits into the side pocket of my pack and cost 75c off eBay. Never leave home without it!

Great ideas. You can also use it to sweep the tent floor before packing it up in the morning - much nicer to pitch up in the evening. It works for tunnel tents. Self standing tents are easier to 'sweep' by just turning them upside down and shake a bit.

I've waited over a year to see someone actually display and review this pad on film, thank you sir. I am now confident in my purchase.

I like to tuck it under the head end of my sleeping pad. In my imagination it helps keep my pillow and head a bit warmer. The extra angle helps keep my pillow from wandering some too.

Thanks for the video, very good. I forwarded to Gossamer Gear because there are no reviews of the Airflow Sit Light Pad. Do you find it provides better rigidity or airflow than other options like zlite?

great for blocking the wind while cooking with a stove as well.

It can also be worn inside a jacket as extra insulation for the front of the torso. I carry two thin foam mats, one goes under the tent to protect the groundsheet and the other one inside. Being thin they fold easily for backpads and seats and being long I can lay down on any surface and rest. In a cold weather emergency one can be wrapped around the torso or worn as an insulated ‘kilt’ to stave off hypothermia from cold wet legs, allowing someone to walk to safety. I consider a lightweight foam mat one of the most important pieces of gear, even for day hikes.

Not bad. Only thing I'd say it's your signing idea. It's all black. What are your alternatives for signaling. Otherwise good alternate uses.

So I came to this video because I had an idea with plastic landfills and their problems. If you guys know how to knit, I was thinking to make a seat pad using the disposable shopping bag. I am aware the fact that local churches are making these knitted sleeping pads for homeless people. So why can't the backpacker or outdoor enthusiast like me (though Im from urbs) to use trash to something practical?

Half of those uses are silly. Come on, a dedicated sleeping pad? You're joking right? There is one absolute great use for a z-seat but no one EVER talks about it. If someone is using this for a signal device or a dedicated sleeping pad they can't be helped anyway. Those same guys peel the stickers off their Sawyer micro, and their mini box lighters bc the stickers are too heavy......
