Tip number 7 - Don't accidentally sabotage your own carefully planned out roundabout to enter your newly built industrial district by placing an iconic building like the Statue of Liberty smack, bang in the center of it as an "ornament", only to see said roundabout get absolutely clogged up with tourists. (yes, I am guilty of this....)

Tips on how to start a city would be great, I always struggle with stating a city from scratch and rarely am happy, so never really go long on maps before starting again.

In the US (in my area at least) NO ONE knows how to use a roundabout, for example, I was going on a roundabout how you are suppose to, this lady pulls in front of me and just stops, while on the roundabout.....

I live in a UK town called Milton Keynes. First thing anyone says is, oh roundabouts. We're on a 15x15 road grid and almost every junction has a roundabout. It moves way faster than traffic lights!

I am a grid builder myself, so I get traffic jams a lot...This helps but makes me even more confused to what to do.

I generally turn all traffic lights off in a city. The only time when I use them is when there is no other way :)

Please do more videos like this! I have been playing cities skylines for a long time but there is still stuff to learn. What I always have trouble with is what road types to put where, and placement of the different "types" like commercial, industries and residential. And by the way, I dont know if you ever play the game without infinite money, but would love to see a video of tips when playing the game that way. How to plan ahead, best placements etc. Love you channel! :D

Even a seasoned player can learn from your beginner tutorials: plan your industrial areas in the early part of the highway's destination (outskirt of town) and yep, roundabouts. Adore roundabouts, always increases my traffic flow percentages in the game versus standard intersections. Thank you, Sam.

Roundabouts don't work well without mods. If you do have traffic manager, then you can use them for great effect.

I never have traffic on my cities, I usually build them very compact so the car is less necessary and people see walking and public transport much better.

I would make the six lane road running in the middle of my city and only have commercial and offices there, then housing would be the smaller roads behind those boulevard and the two were connected with only a few in and out so for example, the first intersection is to the left, then 2 blocks from there to the right, and 2 blocks from there to the right again and so on and on so there's little to no traffic light. Also I always upgrade the six lane road into tram and make it run across the map in a loop, it helped with traffic congestion and since this road will always split the urban centers right at the middle, people will use it to commute inbetween district and towns (because I prefer sprawled cities with wooded areas in between).

Some mods that I see are useful even for beginners: 1. Traffic Manager Presidents Edition (acronym TMPE), allows you to control which lanes goes where, yield/stop/main road signs etc. 2. Roundabout Builder - converts intersections to roundabouts with just a few clicks. It has some quirks, but is generally good. 3. Automatic Bulldoze v2 The mods above are usually not causing any strange problems. Just be aware - when you have started modding it's like a drug.

I'm not a beginner at CS. Not even close. I've had the game for years now, ever since the constant crashes in Sim City 4 got too much to bear and after finding SC5 wasn't quite what I was looking for. But I still make almost all of these mistakes (the roundabouts is the only one I really follow, and even then probably not enough) and I get terribly frustrated and spend hours of my life just trying to fix traffic issues. Maybe one day I'll learn!

Not sure about Tip 6. Sims will always choose the shortest distance between two points. So what's the point of giving them more options?

Actually, a traffic management tutorial is a good idea. The roundabout acts as a replacement for the intersection, but it also has limits that need to be replaced with an intersection. A very comprehensive guide can be made about the roads themselves and what forms of nodes for each zones should be used, how to ensure smooth traffic in industrial and/or commercial zones, and how to effectively manage public transport to redirection of tourists and many trucks on roads. Oh and mods - how to use them. Especially TPME because it is a wonderful tool that allows you to solve half of the problems. Many people do it already but many people don't watch them and often many tutorials need to be improved because they outdated like Simcity.

How do you handle the education and healthcare stuff? Like in small outlying towns? do you just plop down Elem/High schools and clinics and call it a day? Or are you using some other method?

I would like to see some short brief tutorial how to choose appropriate size of roundabouts. Or point me to video if you already covered that. I generally use 12 diameter for 3 and 4 no. of exits and 20 diameter if 5+.Thank you

I wish you make such a small video about the way you create car parkings. What workshop for parkings do you use and how do you build it? I tried to sub to your workshop list ,, got some parkings options but it looks like a stamp on the ground,, without access or any use of cars in the game. BTW, can you talk about how to make a scalable and upgradeable city? Sometimes I don't want to enable unlimited money and want the city to grow organically. But ends up very messy. I can't decide the highway and main road connection.

There is an option that u can create stop signs but I don't know the key for it you can use that to give priority to your road that goes trough your city Some one pls tell me the key

Sam, how do you decide the number of lanes in a roundabout? I find it rather confusing because more lanes sometimes cause more traffic.

For me: -dont mix res, com, industry in the same district.. separate those 3 specially the industry area.. and separate them with highway road -if u have industry dlc, make sure commercial is close to industry, because industry alwats send their product to commercial (but separated or different district) So make sure industry (beside) commercial (beside) residential -always make a branch of highway road -always make 1 way road that connect to high way road -dont make distance between junction so short -when rich, dont use any power plant except dam.. dam can create 1600 Kw for just 3200$ maintain. Rule for dam, the different high of water define how much power u generate ( higher dam mean higher power). The water need to be full or reach top of the dam to create power, otherwise it ll be 0 power.

I wanna know if it's possible/acceptable to make some sort of intersection to connect two highways and high density road at almost he same point and keep the flow 😂 I know it sounds ridiculous but I've been struggling with this

Cities skylines should add left and right traffic lights 🚦 that would be awesome. And 2-one way lanes that you can zone on (not those highway ones)!! I could definitely execute traffic that way! And I don’t wanna hear that u can do this with a mod 😑
