That’s the moment Claire realized that there was a difference between being an artist and being an art student.

Right! I'm an artist too. This scene perfectly portrays a barren period, where you're not even remotely sure you can make good art again.

Why are artists/liberals so damn childish? I mean, look at the behavior. Take about no self-awareness and such gross immaturity. The look on Claire's face says it all. Her character had outgrown them and had grown up, whereas they all stayed adolescent.

@@ThisLeprechaunWrites Right, only liberal 20 year olds act immature. And hey, turns out our 76 year old former president throws food at the wall and assaults people when he’s upset; kind of like how my three year old acted last year, before he outgrew it.

Claire to her straightforward response that her "normal" life is not that bad! I would NEVER regret having left this environment with these people who think they know everything but who know nothing, and who think they are open-minded when they are not! The distance that this scene gives us, and the character of Claire throughout the series, in front of this superficial "artistic world" is poignant!

Yes, at some point in the show someone says, “don’t be so judgmental of the world or you wont be able to be a part of it.” Maybe…it was Olivier…

I always found the Olivier character more interesting than any of the main characters.Assuming he wasnt joking or being sarcastic he had the power to bring you up or make you cry. He could be brutally honest towards himself and others even if you did not agree with what he said or want to hear it. He would filter himself sometimes but he was always best when he didnt. Off topic I have never seen his actor in anything else and would love to see his range.

Adding to what I said his character would be even better as a therapist. He could have had his own spinoff show where they could show his clients before they see him and he puts in his 2 cents about their problems and it would be gold. When he talked without a filter he was way more interesting vs really anyone else.

Agree. Olivier was crass and brutally honest to others, but he was also that way with himself. And it wasn’t always bad either, sometimes it absolutely needed to be said. And it’s obvious he truly cared about Claire. He’s the one that got her the New York job that started her career, after all.

He seemed so eccentric to me at first. But his character arc was that he wasn’t eccentric.
