Also, 🙂 if starting vining things like grapes, etc. planting north/south, helps both sides of the vine/fruit to ripen.

Another reason to have the garden closer to the house: When the woodchucks etc. invade, the shots will be closer and missing is less likely.

We actually got some deep root waterers for the trees. That’s super important to water them. We have clay soil so it helps to get the water deep.

Made the same mistake..kinda.. Planted 13ft tall corn in front of my peas, and beans. My 3rd year, I made a dedicated corn bed. Now everything is super happy.

All the things I wish I had known more about when starting gardening 3 years ago. Made several mistakes with shading the last two years, think I have it figured out. Good info for new and even experienced gardeners.

I don't know anyone who hasn't made a mistake or two without learning from it. If they just complain about the mistakes, its time to back away... I've lear so much from my many mistakes! We've gotten into a lot of permaculture for our gardens lately. Its a good practice to really make your soil like gold! Having farm animals for that process is great. Using what we have to help our soil have the nutrients it needs. The other thing about having multiple places to plant is you can use different things to amend soil dependingon what is being planted. Use what you have without buying stuff is wonderful!

I just added three 16' cattle panel trellises oriented East/West...decided not to do the 3 North/South trellises because of the sun orientation.

Great Advice Melissa , I started a BIG Project in sept oct and nov. I live on Long Island NY Zone 7B and Have converted 5,400 sq ft. of Ivy and grass to a food forest . Covered with brown paper and put down 60 yards of wood chips. PLUS I have a massive order of fruit trees, Strawberries bareroot plants Hazel nut trees, about 200 bare root bushes aspargus , Sweet potatos OMG I lost my mind and Kind of freeking OUT!!! BUT your "6 things to consider" has re-assured me that I am on point. I will have to Prune my trees again in the fall. My canapy consists of 30 trees on a half Acre Lot of Locust, Pine Oat Black Oat etc. trees. I can only hope for the best. Great Job !!!!! P.S. what State do you reside???

Could you share more on moving older court trees? (Like 2+yrs) we have to move a couple fruit trees to what will be our permanent “orchard” area with some new apple trees we haven’t planted yet. I don’t want to ruin it because it is 3-4 years now. I have a peach as well. But it hasn’t gotten to really fruit much.

Great Thoughts and Notes! The course of the Sun seems somewhat different in the Summer compared to Winter. Fruiting plants do seem sensitive a lot of the time. There are some low maintenance fruit trees that are not as fancy. Some seeds are more sensitive and apparently can require round-the-clock nursing. Turnip seeds seem easy. Broccoli seeds are more difficult than Turnips and also require a specific Ph, specific fertilizing, and specific watering. Broccoli also has to be harvested at the earliest signs of flowering. Broccoli may do well in cool climates. Cool & Humid climates may have potential for insect farming and mushroom farming. Thank you for sharing informative videos!

Do you mean you could literally plant cabbage underneath your pole beans? We have ours in a “teepee” construction. And while I’m asking about planting pole beans, how many do you plant around each of the legs, and do you plant on the outside only? I planted complely around the legs last year and it worked but boy what a mess!

Nice to meet you! My husband and I have been homesteading and vlogging for about 8 months now. I've seen a few of your videos and it looks like you are doing really well! I was wondering if you had any advice for a shy content host? 😅 How do I get viewers attention when I don't know what to say to the camera?!

@@cynthiafisher9907 Oh thank you! I'm making about 3 videos a week (I've slowed down since I've had the baby 👶) but once we get back up to Montana I'll have waay more content to post. Thank you so much for the suggestions! What are your top 3 homesteading channels that you enjoy watching if I might ask?
@NewCabinHomestead
@NewCabinHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
@@cynthiafisher9907 there are so many put there! I can't keep up! The one I haven't heard of is the 1870's Homestead. My top 3 are Justin Rhodes, Roots and Refuge , and Art and Bri. There is a homesteading convention in Tennessee this year but it's pretty pricey and that would be a looking drive with a baby. I think we will try again next year 😄. Thank you so much for the tips!

You need to decide what you're going to say before filming. Consistency is key, along with making sure it provides value. But pre-planning really helps so you know before you're staring at the camera what you are going to say/share

Do raspberries and strawberries need ericaceous compost. I have only used ericaceous compost with my blueberries. Now I know why my rhubarb died. I used multi purpose compost 🤦‍♀️
