What's the difference between softened and smoothed? How do you control wether a line is hidden or softened? This Skill Builder will explain the difference between these properties and show you how to control them.

how can you do this for a competent from 3D warehouse? It's not giving me the option to smooth in the 2018 version.

Make sure that you are selecting geometry before smoothing. If you select a group or component, you will not get an option to smooth. Double-click on the container to get access to the smoothable geometry on the inside.

Do these settings affect the output of exporting STL files?

Softening and smoothing are for visuals (inside SketchUp) only. The full geometry is what is exported (.STL or other).

SketchUp Thanks, I've always wondered why I get things looking great with soften/smooth, but when I go to slice them for printing they revert.

Sketchup still needs to soften multiple lines on context menu as it does with hiding.

This does not show you how to find the Entity info. If you know how to get that, it does not show you how to get to the Soften/Smooth option. Lucky for him they were all open already.
