The Skoda Octavia was awarded 2020 Car of the year (Auto Express) and in 2021, Skoda have recently won, Manufacturer of the Year, at the British Fleet Awards . We sent our intrepid "Ritchie" to find out why, and how in this climate, the Octavia could be a no-brainer. Testing the 2.0 TDI saloon version in what he calls "Nan Blue" (no offence) our highlights included the DSG gearbox (the car is also available in manual) Skoda's virtual cockpit, the 10.5 inch screen, the ride, quietness and overall versatility.

I can confirm this is a fantastic car; I have the SE 1st edition with a 1.5tsi engine and 6 speed manual. It's very quiet and smooth. Love it to bits. Oh; and at my age I do get stiff sitting for long periods; but not in this; no stiffness getting out of my Octavia. Best car I've had; and I had a Mondeo prior to this.

You didn't mention that the rear wiper is a free option; it doesn't come as standard But it is free..

One problem I found ... looking for next Co car and wanted the ViRs (PHEV) but lease prices are crazy and its actually cheaper to lease a BMW 330e .. dropped the ball there

Nan Blue for this Skodas colour 8-))... Though Blue Rinse might have been better 8-))... Seems funny that VW have always been the "peoples car". I think Skoda have that title now 8-))... Another 11/10 Howard. How are you managing to get such high scores from me? Are you surreptitiously using mind control or bribing me? 8-\\... It's gotta be mind control because I just checked my bank account and it said "Computer says no!" 8-((...

My 2nd Octavia and I love them - make better cars than VW - well built - this time I have the 1.0 E-tec wagon but doesn't drive like a 1 litre !!

In India, we get only 2.0 TSI with 7 speed DSG, do any enthusiasts here can give a feedback of this one available in my country. Though it is a CKD and assembled here

I used to own an Octavia. It was a very worthy car, good value and reliable. When the time came to replace it, I tried a Mazda 3 diesel, which was also 150bhp but which in comparison felt like a sports car. I don't think I'd be satisfied with another Octavia now.

you can't compare the silent ness of the tdi with the tsi...yeah, at 1500 rpm maybe, but at over 2000rpm you can clearly hear the diesel rumble.

Only car I ever drove that was quieter than my 1.5 tsi was a Bentley Eight. And even that was clsoe.

@@johnbower7452 You should try the 1.8 tsi. That one has port and direct injection, whereas your 1.5 has only direct injection which is noisier. The 1.8 usually runs on port injection which is extremely quiet. I have an octavia with it and the thing barely makes a noise at 3-4k and under 2k you simply cannot hear the engine.

Wouldn't get a Prius, I don't like their CVT transmissions and then there's the image you get by driving a Prius.

The Mk4 Octavia is one of the worst car I've ever owned. If anyone is thinking of buying one check out the skoda forum first to see all the issues. Many of them are being rejected by customers because Skoda can't fix them. Mk3 Superb is a much better car IMO....and cheaper.

Obviously he has not encountered the myriad of problems with this model! Horrendous infotainment system. There are lots of problems with these! A shame
