@@BobFlavinVideo I had a Renault 5 in my late teens/early 20s, filled to the brim on the good stuff,legend has it that behind the smoke,it had two GT turbo alloys,with a white body that had a red bonnet,red wing and green drivers door. It was all the colours of the Italian flag, and thank God it was never dipped 😉

I imagine the diesel won't make it to 2020. The 1.6 is on the way out thankfully.

Cars sold in the East are "poverty-specs", that is a lot less features than in the West to keep being affordable. No one in Romania will pay 20k+ for this when you can have, say, a Mazda 6 for 22,000.

Given that the Scala from the video has special suspension and the ones we'll get in Ireland will have normal shocks I'd say the Focus would be a better drive. The problem is the Focus 1.0ltr is a good bit more rough than the 1.0 from Skoda. Tough choice but I'd have the Scala

I'd go Skoda but be aware that the Scala doesn't look as good in other colours. Proceed is lovely but boring to drive.

They want to invent a range of cars that will sell, the old names were weird and mostly English so they didn't always make sense in other languages. It also signals a brand new car.

The six speed box makes it much more comfortable on the motorway, the fuel economy improved. The 1.5 petrol or 1.6 diesel would be better if you spend most of your time on motorways. Bigger engines are always better at higher RPM

I was driving VW Lupo with the engine of 1.2 L with 45kw on those roads easy no problem at all.I bought it new and drive it for 11 years with 310.000 km on the clock.I sold it cause I left Country I come to live in Australia.

I recently drove a vw polo 1.0 tsi 95 Witz the manual 5 speed transmission and I was kinda surprised how well it handled high speed driving. Driving 130kph with 2800rpm and 6,5 l/100km is alright with me. Maybe the Arona has more wind resistance?

@@Ripinda1911 6.5l seems OK but I've recently had a Audi A4 1.4TFSI and that easily got 5.8l. I think 5 speeds are not built for motorway cruising. I now have a Seat Leon ST Cupra 4drive and can manage 7.5l on the motorway (granted it needs to be at least a 30KM journey to reach that), it's 7th gear deffinelty helps overcome it's power and 4drive.

I still can't work out the notchback thing, marketing I suppose

Does look like a 1.0 engine is doing the work of a 2.0 engine. If it lasts half as long i guess it's doing just as well. But the diesels would easily last twice the life of the petrol's before so who knows. I for one don't like turbo's on anything.

@@chrisredfield3240 You can shorten that life expectancy with a GPF. Petrols are going the same way as diesels now, not fit for city driving, will complain when it can't get hot enough to burn soot. It will need an occasional hard hour-long run up a motorway to clear, lessening the point of it being there if all you want to use the car for is a daily trip to the shop to buy some milk.

Longevity goes thusly, I drove taxis for a long time, my record mileage was 451,000 miles in a Peugeot 406 diesel. Opposite end of the scales was a Volvo 940 turbo that popped it's clogs at 199,000 miles. Petrol hasn't lasted, that's my conclusion. IF 3 cylinder petrol engines are built well enough I'd hope they'd last as long as long as a naturally aspirated petrol with double the capacity. Maybe Mazda know what way the motor industry is going with their naturally aspirated 2.0 petrol engines

@@LiamS94 it'll get to the point where only electric cars will be practical in the towns if petrol engines give up the ghost with soot particulate gubbins added. Loads of people with petrol cars seldom leave town, wonder if dealers will benefit from more frequent visits trying to rectify mysterious electrical issues?

Scala uses MQB-A0 platform like Audi A1 f.e. It´s the newest one and can be modulate to any size

@@impeRAtoR28161621 You did it. This car is little "fake" from Škoda, because it's presented as Octavia hatch. And is only Polo. Cars from Škoda are good, Scala will be good as usual. I drive Škoda cars from 105, 120, Favorit, Felicia, Fabia, Fabia II, Octavia I, II, now Fabia III 1.0 tsi 81kW. Škoda is very successful in my eyes. I only don't like Škoda's marketing in this case.

@rtjz524 My car has the Š on the badge outside of the Czech Republic. Proper nouns shouldn't change. Also the (would) in your post shouldn't be there. It's a 1st conditional sentence.

@rtjz524 The Š is used on the UK Škoda website. There is no reason to pronounce proper nouns differently than in their native language. If someone pronounces my name incorrectly I will correct them.

​@@BobFlavinVideo First of all the new 1.3tce engine, punchier AND quiet with no vibrations (4 cylinders) for the same price, I've driven both engines and the 1l TSI (3 cylinders) can be felt and heard especially at low revs, it's super annoying when driving in an urban env with stops and starts, second the design, this new Scala looks so bland, nowadays 90% of new cars in this price range are quite good and reliable, the choice is usually an emotional one determined by the design of the car and the image it projects.

the new TSI models are very improved and with sensible moderate driving and regular maintenance I think they can withstand a very long time :)

Not everything can be perfect

Just thinking my rear engine Škoda also has a 1 litre engine but is older design. Rugged and still working well 31 years on. Old Škodas certainly have character.

@@vuki63blok mate I'm a car guy, I drive 500+ cars every year doing between 300/400 miles every day driving all types of cars From Bentley to Vw Golf ,and I talk to a lot of customers and they all are pleased with VW cars and I had a lot of VW cars aswell such as Skoda ,Audi,Passat,Golf, I had Honda ,Mazda aswell ,and now I have a Seat Leon FR which I love the way it drives and looks and it's by far boring to drive like you say ..I swear to God ,I never had problems with any of these cars ,because I new how to drive them and mantained them propperly , and customers say the same thing that the are really good and solid cars A lot of all you new VW hates ,say that they drive boring 😂 they look boring 😂😂 they don't drive and look boring , they are confortable and drive perfect in the way that the steering is light (too light for mi taste in the golf for ex😋) and comfy ,the suspention aswell ,everything is layed out nicely and simple in the car..having a simple design and not beeing a race car , does not make them boring , it's just simple car, not everyone want's a sporty car like me or you ..
