There is sufficient evidence that Jesus existed, there is insufficient evidence to suggest that Jesus is indeed the Son of God for a fact. Peterson on the topic of religion is fundamentally dishonest. He's got good ideas elsewhere (especially directly in his relevant field), but on the topic of theism almost everything he says is garbage (and he guards that with exactly the evasiveness you see in this interview).

Even if I like some things the guy says about morality and culture, God is not a respector of person. The standard is the same for every body. If you believe in Him, you must confess Him and give praises to Him before men, so that He would be feared and glorified by all. Jordan is all about marketing. Knowing that Christians listen and hope for a "confession of faith" he keeps the carrot on the stick and sells millions of books. He teases relentlessly- oftentimes with tears in his eyes - about his belief in God but falls short of coming out of the spiritual closet. But he is not a Christian. Jesus said that if you will not confess me before men then I will not confess you before the Father. I love and respect him and have been enlightened and encouraged psychologically and philosophically by him. On the other hand I understand also that Jesus said not cast your pearls before swine lest they trample them under their feet and devour you. Perhaps his statement "it's nobody's business" is his way of sidestepping the confrontation altogether.

He sees the Bible and topic of God at large through the lense of the order and chaos framework that’s he’s been working on his whole life. JP does not literally believe in hell but rather suffering from poor decision making. He doesn’t literally believe in God either. I am a Peterson fan, but I don't believe his getting there. It seems that Peterson's intellect is seeking rather to re-package and advance a novel expression of psychobabble. He has no doubt spent untold hours studying and contemplating the scriptures, but his intellect has concluded that Jesus Christ is merely an archetype of truth. He has yet to conclude that he believes that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a historical fact. He has been questioned directly on this and goes only so far as to say that if that were true it would change everything, but that he really doesn't know. In context, he acted as though the literal resurrection were a novel proposition. But a plain reading of the gospel accounts clearly teaches that Jesus really did rise from the dead - they leave no room for Christ merely being an archetype of truth. If he is seeking truth, he is on a tangent that is taking him far from it.

Most others say you have to do good things to get in. JESUS says I know you cant be Perfect and pay that price that is why HE had to come out of Love. We owed a huge Debt we could not pay. Everyone has a different definition of what it means to be a believer, catholics would say that he is not a believer because he doesnt fully commit to god. My critic to the catholic church would be that I havent met any single catholic who has read the entire bible, not a single one. So in some sense Jordan is more of a believer than any catholic or christian i have met. Plus most catholics believe that you can only talk with god through the church or through a priest which doesnt appear in the bible. I've thought about this a lot. On one hand, this approach to religion opens the door to secular intellectuals to engage with such religion and exploring its teachings without necessarily having to believe in the supernatural. I think he's not a Christian yet. He uses Bible stories as symbols and metaphors to describe temporal matters, but Christianity is mainly about atemporal matters, eternal matters, in a simple, plain use of the word eternal, meaning out of this life things, meaning the state after death. He doesn't want to go there, so I think he hasn't put his eternal destiny in the hands of Christ as a Saviour from the wrath to come, and savior and wrath are literal not metaphorical or symbolical. He doesn't think that there's is a literal hell waiting for the unrepentant sinners so it seems that he doesn't think that he needs salvation from that. Everyone has his own path in life, I hope his path takes him to the the feet of the historical Christ, the God-man and he can ask for literal forgiveness and literal reconciliation

Peterson has been directly questioned as to whether or not he believes that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a real, historical event. He replied that he did not know but that if it were true it would change everything and that scared him. He has no doubt spent untold hours studying and contemplating the scriptures, but his intellect has concluded that Jesus Christ is merely an "archetype of truth." But a plain reading of the gospel accounts clearly teaches that Jesus really did rise from the dead - they leave no room for Christ merely being an archetype of truth. If he is seeking truth, he is on a tangent that is taking him far from it. So...there is no way Peterson is a Christian in any sense of the word. The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ is a fundamental and essential tenant of the faith. No resurrection = no gospel.

He's not playing games, he's like this about any serious question, and the more the serious the question, the more granular the answer. He's not playing coy, it's just how he is. The way he considers it, it would be worse sin for him to say he does believe in God if he doesn't really mean it, and if he's only 98% of the way there, he's not 100% there. Faith is a lifelong journey. If you got there sooner then you are blessed, but it's a big struggle for people who have trudged through the swamp of materialism for their entire lives. Not everyone gets their own personal theophany. Just pray for the man and let him make his journey.

@@AM1mediain 2016, the glory of God came in my presence and I threw myself on the ground. I had instant knowledge of his holiness and my wickedness. I burst into tears crying "I couldn't see, I couldn't see" . I knew I deserved hell because all my wickedness was not against people, but against God. My mind played like a movie and all my sins came up and I'm crying and repenting and begging for forgiveness. I cried and cried for a long time. When it was over, I thought about what Jesus did for me. All I wanted to do at that point was serve him. Praise God. Scripture says if you draw close to him, he will draw close to you. Don't delay, My Friends. He loves us so. Love covers a multitude of sins.

But...Peterson does not have faith in Jesus. He believes that Jesus is merely an archetype of truth, and that he did not literally rise from dead. Peterson has been directly questioned as to whether or not he believes that the resurrection of Jesus Christ is a real, historical event. He replied that he did not know but that if it were true it would change everything and that scared him. He has no doubt spent untold hours studying and contemplating the scriptures, but his intellect has concluded that Jesus Christ is merely an "archetype of truth." But a plain reading of the gospel accounts clearly teaches that Jesus really did rise from the dead - they leave no room for Christ merely being an archetype of truth. If he is seeking truth, he is on a tangent that is taking him far from it. So...there is no way Peterson is a Christian in any sense of the word. The bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ is a fundamental and essential tenant of the faith. No resurrection = no gospel.

Ya thanks for your comment, i watched that video as well. In C S lewis autobiography, he made mentioned that he wanted a different approach to evangelism when he started his broadcast which content later formed the book "Mere Christianity" . I think his approached was not typical at his time. And I am wondering whether JP might just be a different kind. Perhaps at later point he might show his hand, but if he does it the church-y way, his effectiveness might not appeal to his crowd. Having said that, I am just speculating. One of my favorite books about Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell is an allegorical novel by CS Lewis and is called The Great Divorce.

The way that is worded, Earth is hell.

Heaven is only a part-time place for children of God. Ultimately, the Earth will be returned to perfection, and children of God will live perfectly on the then perfect planet. But absolutely, in the presence of, and praising to, God.

​@ohmightywez Purgatory is not in the bible it's just another add on by the catholic church. All religions are of the devil. Being a Christian is not a religion. Christian literally means Christ follower. Jesus said "Follow me" not follow religion. Jesus is the ONLY way. Catholic Priests and other religions will lead you to hell.

Hell isnt the absence of God. God is everywhere and fills all things. Christ defeated death by death. Hell is being in the presense of God, Who is love, Who is a consuming fire, and HATING him. Hating Gods love is hell. Heaven is being in that same presense but loving God by walking in his light during your life.
