Having just ended Manchester United's 26 year wait for the league title, Sir Alex Ferguson was asked if this was a start of a dynasty. Time would prove that it was as Ferguson & United would lift a further 12 Premier League titles.

From a Forest fan, so typically you'd think I'd choose Cloughy but Fergie is the greatest ever. What he achieved was phenomenal. The era of raising talent from scratch at a premier level seems to be fading away every season. You look at who Fergie brought through the ranks: Scholes, Ronaldo, Giggs, Beckham, Rooney, Keane, Schmeichel, Ferdinand, Van Nistelrooy, Song, Nevilles etc. I could go on. He didn't have to search far and wide like the managers of today with a mega budget. I love Cloughie, he's my #2 but Fergie is king.
@wngmv
@wngmv 3 жыл бұрын
Actually Cloughie brought Keane through the ranks. we merely broke the British transfer record when Fergie brought Keane from Forest. Both were great managers and different in their own right. What Clough did with Derby and Forest will never be replicated again, and we definitely will not see another dynasty like Fergie's United.

Teams dreaded having to play at old trafford. Fergie's United would start strong, finish even stronger. They could raise their level when needed. Fergie stood there chewing his gum but knew when to act. Lost count how many teams actually played well only to come away with nothing and that's because they would get punished for the slightest error. Knowing this, made them nervous. United were ruthless and always had goals in them. Nowadays teams don't mind visiting. The intimidating factor is just not there anymore.

Sir Alex Ferguson had a big hand in popularizing premiership football in the world and creating a fast paced playing style. Most of the matches Manchester United played under him are edge of the seat thrillers. He put premiership on the top of other leagues and re-defined financial aspect of running a club. Man Utd generated money from football unlike other clubs with sugar daddies.

He wanted to stay with us for another year. But his wife was ill and he had to look after her so our loss really. I sometimed wonder how things might have changed if not for that. Maybe we got another manger instead of moise . Well atleast ole seems to be doing really good at the moment. Long may our unbeaten run continue.

@@frozenbolt9936 He signed Ole in 1996, and Ole gave him the goal and Champions League title in 99. Now Ole is on the same path and you will start winning titles again within 3-4 years.

United fans that slag Liverpool for going 30 years without a title often forget that United went 26 and 41 years without titles.

My fear is I see a lot of Fergie in Jurgen Klopp. As a United fan, a football lover who hates everything about Liverpool... it scares me ..

Ferguson actually nearly left in 2002 with Sven Goran Eriksson set to take over. Obviously he was already a United legend but they could have missed out on another 11 years of Ferguson.

Man United were 3-5 Times bigger financially than any other team at that time. The work was done off the field selling the brand unlike other teams who it was an afterthought. Blackburn winning the title woke them up to this but it took other oligarchs and decades of branding to catch up. Liverpool have a deal with Nike to make them similar to the nw York yankees. The ubiquitous NY caps etc not many people know it’s a Yankee’s branded product, not the city itself but it’s a classic and they get people buying their stuff who have no knowledge of baseball. That’s what Nike and Liverpool are trying, like with Federer, Tiger etc...a brand within a brand, if you will.
