"setting up homes and camps just miles from the beaches of the Salton Sea." They make it sound like Saint Tropez. It's not. The beaches are nothing but a crunchy graveyard of rotting dead fish and it smells even worse than you can imagine. The Salton Sea is a toxic waste dump. It is an unnatural terminal lake (no out flows). The in flows from the New River bring a toxic stew of heavy metal, agricultural chemicals, and untreated sewage from Mexico. I believe the New River is the most polluted river in the nation. All of this waste settles in the Salton Sea. As the Salton Sea rapidly evaporates all those chemicals get whipped up into dust. Imperial County has the highest incidence of respiratory problems in the nation. The entire area is an ecological disaster. Don't go there, even for short periods of time. Who knows what you'll be breathing in. The state certainly won't tell you. Stay away from anywhere near the Salton Sea.

I lived on Beale Rd. In the last trailer before you get to Slab City , in Niland Ca, in 03-06 , the monumental site , the old man , we called him preacher man :) I used to take food to him , to visit , And hear his stories and he me magazines of his honorary work from President Bush, we called that land " The Yellow Brick Road :) My daughter was 10 at the time loved playing on it :) A LADY NAMED JEAN... Was my dear friend an older lady, she lived in a tent at the slabs , please believe me , I lived in a trailer and SHE HELPED ME OUT , she had a car and I had money , every time she went into shed stop and see if I needed anything , SOMETIMES , I didn't but went anyways to get gas for her so I didn't feel bad :) when I finally got out , I gave her everything , I left with only a back pack , honestly , she SO EXCITED , I told her to keep it or sell it lol God that time of my life was very dark there , Thank God for the full Moons to shine what light you could grab , deep dark world there :) I tucked as many FULL MOONS AS I COULD , to make a HUGE FLASHLIGHT TO GUIDE MY WAY OUT, I never forgot about that land :/ GOD BLESS THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN , they are THE TRUE SURVIERS OF SALTON/ BOMB BAY BEACH :) :)

This makes me think of my friend, who moved to Topanga Canyon to build a Hobbit House on somebody else's land...and got it destroyed. So, she ended up in the desert areas around San Bernardino, living in a bunch of airstreams she collected. She kinda got in a pickle with meth and I imagine she must have passed through Slab City. For years, she had no fixed address. She finally got a shared apartment in San Bernardino...but doesn't like the city...nor does she like living inside much.

Not everyone craps in thier house or use huge quantities of fresh water to do it. Indians had clay toilets in the garden. Crushed charcoal is sprinkled as an absorbent. Once filled, the pot is left in the sun for 1 year then smashed open & introduced into the garden as fertilizer. The Activated charcoal is magic to soil, a long lasting dynamic spring of nutrients. The bugs take most of it down & sun composting piles easily reach 180° internally. Humanure has long been used by civilizations. Indians didnt farm animals, they raised themselves efficiently. Think cow manure grow$ good? Try using cow feed (alfalfa, cornmeal, ect) , its way more potent, holds more water, & dont stink.

Yep, reality and logic are not alive and well these days. 😏 and at minimum a “counselor” requires both a master’s degree and a license to practice. Even if she stayed put that would be tough to have pulled off at her age, but by her own story she has been traveling much of her adult life. What is the likelihood then that she finished that degree and managed to be licensed in any state do we think.....?! And that isn’t bashing that is fact. Do as you wish in life, but do it honestly eh...

People always flee one society and lay claim to another place and create what they fled. The only difference is that they dress differently. If they were people of means they would not live there. I found in the 60s and 70s that hippies were just a game of dress up and communes were a person who coaxed others to pay for the land he wanted. He just hung on until the rest went back to the 'burbs.

Interesting topic, sloppy camera work, poor audio.

Thank you. I think the topic is a good one too. As for the video and camera work it was my first one directing and shooting. We all have to learn don't we. I was not aware the wind would affect the videotaping so much even after switching directions a few times. I'm pleased to say though this film was shown at the Laughlin International Film Festival and received rave reviews. It will be seen next at the Austin Revolution Film Festival in September.

+Full Moon Rising Films Your topic is great, all you have to do is allow your technical skills to catch up and reflect the respect you have for your subject, then you will be winning those film festivals. Good luck.

You can't buy food and water with "love." Has anyone thought about where these people get money to buy these things?

🌍✌️Its a way to break away from the controlled society that we live in. Not only are you making a deeper connection with these people your opening up your soul rather then faking it until you hit 65 old & beat with money that will probably used for medical bills and the funeral or your kids. Have no plans have no fear do what you love and make the most of it the inner soul wants you to do it!!!
