I put some of the final parts of the cowling together and get it ready for paint, we are so close!! It is amazing to see such a big race engine hidden by this cowling...we're really creating a sleeper...but who WON'T recognize Scrappy!? 😂🤠 Check out how I did my oil funnel and how strong my oil door is.

I think you don't see designing like this because of a fundamental culture difference in engineering. Even in development practice, everything is rigidly controlled. Companies seem to care about reducing development waste rather than allowing more iterative design and innovation which inherently has more risk of failure. Also, I feel there is often a big disconnect between experienced consumers and design direction. Especially with valuing experienced enthusiasts opinion over the general market.
@scottwatson5767
@scottwatson5767 3 жыл бұрын
@@ChargedTTq Very true which is why it is important for some of these engineers to intern in the actual field before being put behind the drafting table or design computer. Get the hands on aspect and see just what its gonna take to install, repair , or replace anything they design! A huge part of engineering is cost control -- optimizing for efficiency of materials and labor. What makes this plane amazing is the absurd amount of time spent on it. This plane as built would have zero commercial success because it'd be 10x the cost of the competitors, in an already small market. Doesn't make it any less awesome, just that expecting anything like this out of a typical company -- which depends on making money to exist -- would never happen.

Nice to see Scrappy actually lending a hand rather than sitting around waiting for the pizza to arrive. You're like a chest master. Your thinking seems to be 4-5 moves ahead of the work you're doing and forecasting any possible issues that may arise. It there a reason why you made the cowling door at such a slight angle to the air flow rather than just opening forward? Contours maybe? Those intake inlets look like flaring nostrils of a race horse.

I watch every Scrappy video the instant I see the notification, and one thing has struck me every time. A lot of the attention on Mike focuses on his incredible passion for aviation and building, the energy and enthusiasm, and the resources that enable him to build such crazy machines. But aside from that: what a craftsman! I think that’s probably what’s most impressive to me as someone who works on cars and airplanes. Yes. His work is as good as it gets. His concepts are as well thought-out as it gets. Sure, he is accelerated enormously by help and money and the need for six fewer hours of sleep PER NIGHT. But a normal mind still couldn't muster that degree of care to refine the concept, nor to persist. His patience and intelligence are equally remarkable.

Mike, ‘here’s some scrap piping.’ Me, ‘oh, finally a scrap part on scrappy.’ Mike, ‘that I’m using to form a custom carbon fibre piece then I’ll throw away the scrap pipe.’

😂🤠 lol I know your so right... I ran out of scrap parts a long time ago. No mater how hard I looked I couldn’t find a scrap pressure plenum anywhere that fit 😜🤠. Thanks for watching my friend

What a way to start my day 😁 ( 5 in the morn! ) and your vid has pumped me up to be constructive today !....impressed with the detail in engineering ...it’s not just a cover for the engine !... that 28 min vid seemed to go by so fast !!.... beautiful work Mike 👍🏼...shit I’ve gotta get to work 😳

Wow! The engineering and dedication to detail is unreal. The amount of time you’ve got invested in this aircraft is mind boggling. I can’t wait to see the finished product. Forget the wings, I can’t wait that long, just run it around the airport.😳🙄😮😁🇨🇦

Can’t wait for these “wings”! Will it be able to adjust the angle of attack!? 🤔 Slats?! Got to have slats, easy to do and cost/weight benefit ratio? Yeah. Lastly... The Bernoulli principle! How will Mike the Magician create an adjustable!? Wing?!!? Since his first video explaining some of his ideas... well, imagination is the difference between a pioneer in aviation and a pilot. I’ve racked my brain, to some extent, trying to think of how Mike will accomplish this or is it even possible. If anyone can come up with an idea that can be put into action without it sacrificing weight/performance? Mike and his “Can-do” approach can do it! I’ve been SO waiting for the tease and final rendering. Mike, has your middle name become Patent? 😂 Mike Patent Patey the Plane Patent Person Personifying Planes to Perfection! Imagine Sylvester spraying that 😂

@@garrygballard8914 My father was Army Air Corp during WWII. He was on Guam. Mostly admin stuff. I grew up near Offutt AFB in Omaha and they had an old B36 sitting in a field that you could go see. That thing was massive. Too bad the old bombers are so expensive to maintain. I would love to see more of them flying.

@@tomcoryell 👍 agreed. There’s two B-29’s that I know of. They all need charitable organizations to keep them going. I’ve heard the second B-29 is in Missouri, I think some where.

A 28 minute video, and still seems like it went by super fast. As much as I love Draco this is the greatest bush plane ever built. Can’t wait to see the next video when it’s painted, and taxiing around. Then hopefully the elusive wings!

I know this is not one of the "what can we do to further aviation" videos but I have an idea I hope you see. Many flight fans just will never be able to fly but have access to flight simulators. I would think it would be a great idea to have an official Mike Patey aircraft pack. Turbulence, Draco and Scrappy ect... This would give many people the chance to fly in one of them as well as it might inspire more people to go from the sim to real world flight.
